Sounded like a great one on the radio, p-ville was inbounding the the ball with a one point lead with like 21 seconds on the clock and was called with 5 seconds. SF scored with 8 seconds to take the lead and the win at 82-81. P-ville got it up the court with 6 seconds called a TO threw in to landon slone and threw up a shot in the lane, no good.

Paintsville lacks a killer instinct. That's what beat them tonight. They should have put SF away early in the game. PHS was up 13 and then allowed SF shoot open 3's for the next 15 minutes.
If Paintsville hits their free throws down the stretch it wouldn't have mattered that the 5 second call was called after 4 seconds. It also wouldn't have mattered that the SF player inbounding the ball took 3 steps with no call.
I gotta hand it to Ryan Johnson, his well-placed, cheap shot elbow to the nose of JD Van Hoose was good strategy. Van Hoose was the only PHS player that was hot in the 2nd half and Johnson took him out for about 5 minutes. Play was also halted for 5 minutes to wipe ALL the blood off the floor. When JD came back in he was still hot. What gets me is, the cheap shot didn't fire PHS up.:omg: It was almost as if it let some air out of the Tigers.
Good luck to SF. Win a few down at state. BTW, Johnson needs to watch out for palming the ball. They'll call it down state. They don't call it in the 15th region.

couldn't have said it was better myself... I also understand they want the ball in Landon's hands, but my god, it seemed like every shot J.D. took he made... he was unbelievably on fire... congrats to S.F. but their fans should not have been taunting the parents after the game... especially since we still have a team that is going to All "A" State...

Way to go SF great game.. Either way this was the best game of the year. both teams deserved to win... well hard fought game. Way to play Ryan Little. looked like a pro out there past 2 games.. He deserved MVP.
Sportwhiz you have got to be kiddin me. cheap shot from Ryan Johnson???? how about when Pugh kicked him while he was on the ground right before halftime? no call there. The refs were lettin the game be physical.
I was glad to see SF step up tonite and be physical with Paintsville. The Tigers arent used to teams bumping them back like the Raiders did tonite. good luck in Richmond...

It's funny to me that Ryan Little was NEVER called for a foul all night long. Regardless of that, he killed PHS down low, he has a nice touch under the goal but alot of his shots came from his @$$, god was sure watching over him tonight.
IDK who elbowed VanHoose, but whoever it was did it at the right time, he was lighting it up. nd sportwhiz is right, he cuffed the ball ALL night long and it was never called, they WILL call it in Richmond, trust me, I been there before myself, it's a whole nother world.
If anyone is kidding around here then it's you Vincent, that game wasn't even CLOSE to being the most physical game Paintsville has played all year, it doesn't even compare to the Magoffin games or the Sheldon Clark game.
Keep your heads up Tigers, you played your @$$' off tonight. Gotta hit those free throws.
Congrats SF, good luck in Richmond.

I agree totally
I went tonight and watched a great game, neither team did deserve to lose. I though paintsville was really gonna have their way the first few minutes, then the raiders hit some threes and made a few stops after the timeout. After that is was close entire game.
now there was a few cheap shots but they came from both sides. Ryan J got kicked at the end of half and nothing was said, Ryan little had a guy holding his leg in the first half and fell into a Paintsville player and was called for a foul. Landon is no angel either. but it was a even called game that the refs let it be physical. Oh and the five second call was legit.

listen here bub i didnt say it was there most phyiscal game of the year i just said it was phyiscal and they arent use to it. and they aint. if SF hadnt played like they did P'ville would have run over them.
now i also dont care if everyone on this site hates Ryan Johnson, but petty name callin of any payer of any team will not be tolerated by me or the staff of this site. before you resort to this thikn about the players from other teams. they are by no means angels themselves. pull the wool off ur face so you can see the light.
whether Johnson cuffed the ball or not dont mean crap once SF gets to Richmond. he has other things to worry about. i dont know if he was cuffing the ball. i didnt watch for it. i was too busy watchin the Tiger players hold onto him which wasnt being called. and they will call that stuffin Richond i know i have played there.

Congrats SF on the Win over PHS. No need to argue people refs are gonna have bad calls, and they go BOTH ways. Refs don't make you lose games it's the missed free throws, turnovers, and rebounds that kill you. We lost tonight and SF won, that won't change now no matter what happens. Good Luck at State and make Eastern Ky proud.

he bumped Landon all nite. i saw it as did everyone else. he got called for it too. but he did get kicked while he was on the ground and that was uncalled for i dont care who ya are. i personally didnt like the shot #23 got to his nose. but we all know how tempers flare. i think that wa a result of the refs lettin things get a little out of hand. you act ike it was all SF and P'ville didnt do anything. man i know u saw the samethings i did. both teams got away with things. some got caught.

I don't hate Ryan Johnson, I don't hate anyone (except for the AC fans who started that chant lastnight). All I said was he played like a thug, he didn't play like that when I saw him at the Paintsville tourney. As for wool on my face, sorry aint got none, I can't grow it. Johnson did cuff the ball, he would have never got held or rode up the lane if he woulda been called for it. There is nothing "bullcrap" goin on, everything being said has alot to do with the game there BUB.

Two things, one, it was 5 seconds, two, SF got calls all night long and I didnt care who won the game. SF got the better end of the refs calls tonight. Yes there were bad and missed calls for both ends of the court, but from an unbiased observer, SF got lucky tonight. E.Johnson, M.Hall, R.Little played a hard game R.Johnson? well maybe he'll have a better game in Richmond. Landon Slone was super hot in the first quarter, and Vanhoose was the go to man tonight.

We thought so too, but it looked like P'ville got out of their offensive rotation and went to the run and gun. Then Sf started hitting their 3's. Mason Hall must have had 14 points in the 2nd quarter alone. He was hot from everywhere across the mid-court line.

They chanted "Who's Your Daddy" at Kevin Williams while he was shooting free throws. Kevin lost his dad 2 years ago after he dropped Kevin and his brother off at school the same morning Paintsville was suppose to leave for Gatlinburg for a Christmas tourney. Totally UNCALLED for and HEARTLESS.

Paintsville can blame no one but themselves for this loss. In the 1st Q Landon was having his way. Then they let Mason shoot 3's wide open, big mistake. That is BMR's fault, he should have made the adjustment sooner. He did figure it out in the 2nd half-late. As for the bloody nose, I saw what happened-Vanhoose set a pick and RJ tried to run through it and he did, they got tangled up and the arms were flying-both ways. Just good hard Physical play. I am from neither school. So I watched this game as a spectator whom didnt really care who won. The 5 second call was close, but it should have never been close because the Pville player should have called time out at 3 seconds. Great adjustments by Coach Barry Hall, In my opinion he out coached the legend. Congrats SF

Well, I didnt have a dog in this fight. I just went to watch a good game. I didnt get to see a good one, I seen a GREAT game. I hear about the busted nose. Sorry, that was just physical play. The pick was a hard one, RJ tried to go threw it like he was supposed to. If had just as much chance of RJ getting the busted nose. The 5 second call. He should have called time out like was mentioned. Paintsville cant use that they are young as an excuse either. They didnt make any youth mistakes. They lightened up on SF, SF started hitting. Then SF outplayed them. Paintsvilles fans can say what they want about the calls, the refs, the blood, the hotdogs, even that the popcorn was to salty. That wont help their ballclub. The fact is, it came down to a shot just like I predicted, and the shot didnt fall. The players on both teams give it everything they had, they both wanted to win, but the sad fact is, only one team can win. Congrats to Paintsville on a great game. Congrats to SF on the win.

Tough fought game! A lot of bad calls on both ends! It did seem that Sf did catch the breaks on the calls at the right time though. As for a lot of pushing the only one that appeared obvious to me was #14 for SF, He was shoving all over the place until they finally called him for it. BUT, you know as a coach, I have always taught my kids to play as physical as you can until the refs call you for it. So I must lay that one on the refs. The Tigers really have no one but themselves to blame for the lose. They were at the line 3 times to put the game away and couldn't do it! I still see a lot of young mistakes by the Tigers out there. This will change! We all tend to forget that the mojority of these boys are just Sophamores! As for the post earlier which stated that Pugh threw a punch. I didn't see it and if he really did, which I doubt, seeing that he is a very good boxer, which a lot of people don't know, he would have definately connected! But, like I said in an earlier thread also, SF is scrappy and they will play you until the bitter end! Congrats to the Raiders and keep firing them up at Richmond!

Great basketball game tonight, period. Both teams probably shot around the 50+ percentage area. Physical at times, little chippy shots all over the floor, that happens when you compete and want to win, luckily it never amounted to much more than that. Raiders fall behind, but battle back, Vanhoose shot the lights out and Slone was extremely hot in first quarter. JSlone made big shots for the Raiders to keep them in it, Ethan shows great composure to recover and make big shots after committing the turnover and foul. Overall, one of the better total games by both teams I've witnessed in a while. Talked with some P-ville fans afterward, felt like this was one of their better played games this year also. It is refreshing to see two good teams perform on a high level in a Championship game, good job Raiders, keep your heads in the game and represent us well. What about those cheerleaders- they rule!!! Nice job by the student section also, loud, but not as bad as we are perceived by incidents that have happened earlier in the year.

Well, The Game Tonight Was A Typical 15th Region Called Game. Both Teams Played Good Hardnosed Basketball. There Was A Lot Of Shoving, Grabbing, And Hard Physical Play On Both Sides. There Were Good Calls, And Missed Calls On Both Sides. Paintsville Had A Chance To Put The Game Away, But Didn't. South Floyd Had A Chance To Fold, But They Didn't. If These Two Teams Play 10 Games, Each One Would Probably Win 5. The Infamous 5 Second Call.....The Count Doesn't Stop Untill A Player Inbounds Touches The Ball. That Did Not Happen. The Officals Let A Lot Of Walking Violations Occur On Inbounding The Ball. If An Offical Marks A Spot, Then The Player Establishes A Pivot Foot And Can't Move Both Feet. Overall It Was A Great Game To Watch. It's A Shame Either Team Had To Loose. Congrats To South Floyd For A Hard Fought Victory And Good Luck In Richmond. The Bloody Nose Can Be Blamed On The Officals For Lettng Things Get Out Of Hand AT Times. By The Way...Congrats To The South Floyd Cheerleaders For Comming In First Place. Good Luck In Richmond. :CE_DP_Ste :salute:

GREAT POST

It wasn't a punch it was a kick, i saw it from where i was sitting.
I thought it would be this type of game and it was. I loved every moment of it, because these 2 schools seem to bring out the best of each other.
No one has a right to really complaign one team won one lost, the effort from both was fantastic.
This is what 15th region basketball should be.
when a game is that close and each posession is so contended then both the teams competitive juices boil over. i saw cheap shots and retaliations by "BOTH" teams, and most of the time it the second man who gets caught.
I tend to call them as I see them. I didn't think anyone played any more spitful than anyone else. But if you are from paintsville you will see it one way if you are from South floyd you will see it another.
So where does that put us?
Congratulations to both teams for a great game, congratulations to Barry Hall for his back to back championships.

Tonights game kinda reminded me of the 2002 Region Tourney game at Pike Central between these two schools. South Floyd had their chances to put Paintsville away much like Paintsville had their chances tonight, BUT DIDN'T. Paintsville could have folded when they were down by 24 in the 3rd quarter but they didn't, much like South Floyd could have folded tonight when they were down, but the DIDN'T. I believe over the last 4 years, Paintsville vs. South Floyd has become quite a rivalry, I wish they played again before tourney time rolls around, but they don't. Maybe we will get to see these two meet up again in the Region Tourney.

Well as far as the chant goes, i am from ac and i was sittin right in the same area that the chant came from, and i have known Keven since i was small, i played baseball with him in little league, and i didnt know anything about his father dieing until someone told the person who started it then he tried to tell him he was sorry, everyone from ac was willing to tell him they were sorry. And as a matter of fact the whole ordeal got blamed on me so i think i would be the one to know about it all.

was at this game it was a great one to watch! thought justin slone a great job on Landon Slone in the 2nd half! Ethan Johnson hit a couple of big shots down the stretch! As far as Ryan Johnson palming the ball he must not do it too much! If my memory serves me right he never got it called on him last year in richmond! But nice effort by Paintsville tonight neither team deserved to lose! Goodluck to sf in Richmond!

Hats off to both the teams, Cheerleaders and fans. This was a game of high emotions that ran throughout the evening. Paintsville attacked early and South Floyd countered. We all can say things about the refs or the players taking cheap shots all night and nothing will be changed. Paintsville has a talented team and so does South Floyd. They played as hard as anyone could ask for the full 32 minutes and not once did either back down. I thought that both pulled back from a pressing style because of the guards on each team handling the press. Ryan Johnson has always played the style he uses and has never been called for palming it and this includes down state where he has played many games. South Floyd did not pressure the ball full court because of the way Paintsvilles team handles the press. That is a tribute to BMR and his staff for days of work in practice. South Floyd plays in Richmond Thursday and I would almost guarantee the players will be there to support the Paintsville Girls 15th Champs when they play. I guarantee you could ask anyone on the South Floyd coaching staff and they would have nothing but positive comments about the Paintsville Tigers and Bill Mike Runyon. Great game just bad that both could not win.

Hello everyone, this is the REAL PC_U_KNOW_98. First off I would like to appologize for the recent post's that a certain someone made(i got a pretty good idea of who it was cause I left myself logged in on his computer at school). I know I will probably get in trouble for saying this but I don't care, it had to be said.
Secondly, hats off to the Raiders, they never gave up and pulled out the victory. A few questionable calls in the closing seconds of the game, yeah, but Paintsville should have never been in that situation. They had their chances to put the game away and didn't, and South Floyd took full advantage of that. This was a GREAT ball game, the best I have seen all year. JD played a **** of a game for Paintsville, as did Ethan Johnson of SF, and Wes Hall too, where did this kid come from, lol, he was knocking them down like Reddick. The cheap shots, I didn't see too many cause I never really watch what happens away from the ball, but there were a couple coming from both teams, I'm not gonna mention any names. It is a shame that one team had to lose cause they both played their hearts out.
Congtrats and good luck SF in Richmond, maybe I'll see ya down there when I go to support the Lady Tigers.
Keep your heads up Tigers, you're gonna be alright. Take this game as a learning experience, when you can put a team away early, do it, you gotta get that killer mentality about you, you can't let a team like SF hang around for too long. Keep those heads up and take it to Shelby Valley on the 31st.

Someone else asked earlier about the threes made tonight.
SF made 12 ethan, mason, Justin all connected on 4 each.
Paintsville made seven, Landon and J.D. had 3 each and Jermey pack had 1.
Rebounds where Paintsville 33 South Floyd 31
Ft paintville made 10-15 SF 6-9 (paintsville made more then SF attempted)
Five second was the right call and for a lot of you that do not know if it was 4 and he let go of the ball the count stays on until a teammate touches it (rule). plus he did have 4 timeouts to use.

So you are saying that if a team rolls the ball inbounds, the ref is supposed to count until a teammate touches the ball; which could result in a 5 secound call if it takes that long for a teammate to touch it.

I didn't know that. That's ridiculous IMO, it should be no different than shot clock violations in college and pro, as long as it has left your hand before the last tick, know what I'm saying. Still, regardless, Paintsville shouldn't have been in that situation.
Congrats Raiders. Good luck in Richmond!!

Being someone that STRONGLY believes in "what goes around comes around" AND someone who has lost a parent, if these kids were chanting that out of MALICIOUS INTENT, I'd hate to be them when the "what goes around" eventually "comes around."
It will.
And what is sad...when the REALLY bad thing happens in their lives--and yes, it might be 10 years from now when they have a child of their own and something HORRIBLE happens to it--they'll probably feel it was totally unfair and they did nothing to deserve such a thing.
Stupid, heartless, and UN-FORGIVABLE things you say can NOT be taken back. Once they're said, they're said.
And once your payback happens, it happens.
Congrats on your "big win" tonight (remember, it's ONLY basketball)...if that chant actually played a part in your team's winning, hope it was worth the PAIN you're probably going to feel one day.
My deepest condolences to the young man that lost his father.
And my prayers to the idiots stupid enough to chant such a thing if they did it out of malice...you'll need all the prayers you can get!

That's what matters the most, there wasn't a dull moment the entire game. Hats off to the Tigers as they controlled the game for the most part, just came up short when it mattered most. J.D. As for the Raiders, congrats to Coach Barry Hall and Co. for back-to-back All 'A' Regional championships. It definitely couldn't have came to a better group of guys than SF's coaching staff....
The Raiders were clicking on all cylinders tonight. Whether is was Ryan Johnson's leadership and ability to create off the dribble, or Ethan and Mason's shooting ability, or Ryan Little's inside presence and his post game, or solid play off the bench from Justin Slone, this team came ready to play tonight and got the job done. Good job Raiders and good luck down Richmond and represent the 15th well!!!

So since it was a hold it was ok,Right
Your team gave their share of cheap shots. Landon and #1 gave their fair share .
Nobody said that Paintsville didn't give cheapshots!!! We know it is a part of the game!! All that was said was that Johnson's cheapshot to Vanhoose's nose was well timed! Not complaining about it being cheap! Not complaining at all!!! The only complaint I had was the lack of calls against RyaN Little. He went over and through and shoved people out of the way all night. If they had called him like they should have, he would not have had more than 8 points. But I hand him out kudos as he saw they were letting him have his way and he took full advantage and helped his team pull off the W!! Great job to the Raiders and good luck in Richmond.

My take on the game was this, Paintsville jumped on SF early, Sf clawed their way back and closed the gap at the right time. When SF leader Ryan Johnson fouled out, it should have been Game Over, but Ethan wasn't about to let that happen, he put the Raiders on his shoulders and came through not once, but twice in the clutch! The rest of the game was just filled with some great basketbal that if you missed it, then shame on you.

by far the worst called game in high school history
You people amaze me. Always looking for an excuse, regardless. The fact of the matter is, if you don't put good teams away, it comes back to you. And SF didn't nothing less than that. They absolutely outplayed Paintsville the 2nd half. They wanted it more and they got it. These excuses about the refs and the salty popcorn, cheap shots, and the fans are ridiculous. Some of you people are hilarious. Grow up and tolerate the defeat.

Ethan Johnson ...:theman:
Glad to see him bounce back in the end and shine. Great job Raiders for rising above the past and packing their bags for Richmond. :champ:

What are you talkin about? Ryan Little had 4 fouls called on him!

Just that he shoulda had 10.
Not taking anything away from the kid, cause I think he is a very good player. But surely you can't believe he didn't get away with some obvious no calls.
Not saying nobody else did either, but IMO Ryan got more than his share of overlooks. I am not making excuses cause I believe SF deserved the W, They played hard and made things happen when they needed it the most.

Anyone have any stats from both teams?
Pantsville had a total of 15 fouls for the game.
South Floyd had a total of 16 fouls for the game.
Paintsville was 10 of 15 from the line.
South Floyd was 6 of 9 from the line.
Those are the only stats I know for sure.

Guru, what are you smoking, Ryan little play a great game and by the way he only shot 2 fts himself with Williams hanging all over him and there are pictures on the Sf website that shows more than once Ryan little getting hit and held but did he cry no he played his heart out as did the rest of the raiders. The refs let both teams play as you can tell with the fouls called 15-16 respectively. If anything the 3 shots Landon got in the 1st on a great box out by ryan johnson was bad considering when ethan hit the shot to cut the lead to one he was boxed out the same way and landed on the floor.
Both teams played hard and the raiders came out on top and no class was shown by the tigers by throwing their trophies in the garbage, just folled the lead of the coach by throwing his runner-up coaches trophy in the trash.

Marlboro Menthol lights (in the box please), Have you even read my posts???
I said Little played great. I am not putting this loss on the officials at all. They stunk, but SF won fair and square. They did what they had too to win and Paintsville had their opps to close the door and didn't, then had one last chance and opted for a 14 footer with almost 3 seconds left instead of driving on in.
And please....don't get started on the no class thing, it's all you guys have and it really is not bothering anyone the way you think it is!!!
