Really going out on a limb here aren't ya....lol....
I'll go on out and give my opinions....I don't wanna offend anyone, but this is just how I see it.
SMALL: Johnson Central
MEDIUM: I wouldn't wanna even guess....probably Pikeville (mostly because of their experience and not having to fight any nerves) but SF has something to prove this year, so I wouldn't count them out.
LARGE: Hmmm....this one is as hard as medium division. I haven't seen 3 out of the 5 teams...so I can't even make an educated guess here.
So, that is how I see it....I really have no clue ;)
GOOD LUCK to all the teams!! I can't wait to see who goes on to state!!

I was just informed by a big group of pikevilles girls that the list is incorrect. they are competing in small. they only have 14 girls on their squad and they need 16 to go medium. i know they went medium last year. this could just be a typing error in the list.
Pirate Pal
02-18-2006, 08:55 AM
No typing error. Mrs. Stone wasn't able to there the night of declarations and Pikeville was already on the list as competing in the medium division.
If they have 14, then they have plenty to be competiting in Medium (13-16 members) and too many to compete Small (4-12 members).
Did any girls get injured at National's? Or have they just decided to drop down to small?
This is totally allowed by KAPOS rules. Any squad can change divisions prior to the beginning of the competition.

With 14 girls how can they compete small...
Small - 4 to 12
Medium - 13-16
Large - 17-20
Looks like that they would have to compete medium.....And again, if squads have already declared, just how fair is it that one squad can change and compete in a different division...

I think that may be something that needs to be proposed to KAPOS. I know that it is a double edged sword.
For example, you have squads who have worked their butts off and may have only 13 cheerleaders on the squad. They have chose to compete Medium. During one of the last practices, one girl gets hurt and can't compete. If you don't allow that squad to drop down to the small division then the entire squad is penalized and all their time and effort is for nothing.
On the other hand, you have a squad who has 13 members and declare to go medium. Once they see who else is competiting with them, they decided to sit one girl out/or pick up a few girls and compete in a easier division with a better chance of winning. No injuries or unfortunate incidences that couldn't be helped, just a decision for a better chance of winning.
Both examples have happened in the past....
The question is...How do you change the rule so that it is fair?

So, can anyone set it straight. Is Pikeville competing Small or Medium?
PvilleCheerAlum
02-18-2006, 10:20 PM
two of the girls on the squad do not compete. they are competing small, and it is my understanding they always have had the intention of going small. Mrs. Stone always takes more than she needs, usually around 16 depending on how many people try out. you earn the right to be one of the 12 that competes throughout the year.
Pirate Pal
02-19-2006, 12:10 AM
I understand that they usually compete small...but I know for a fact that they signed up for Medium this year. I was just wondering if there were injuries or not causing them to drop down. Please don't take this as a confrontational post. I think that Mrs. Stone is great person. I have respect for her.
PvilleCheerAlum
02-19-2006, 02:07 AM
nope no injuries. not sure why she signed up for medium to start out with. to be a competitor in medium it is usually customary to have 4 stunt groups. you need 16 girls to do that. can only do 3 groups with 12.

02-19-2006, 10:04 PM
Yeah, well previously Prestonsburg was in small 2 1/2 but for various reasons decided to add a girl only for kapos. She cheered for them last year, and has plans to try out next year. Therefore, that puts them in medium.
what level is Prestonsburg competing in? I heard they have a new girl that just started with them this week.
I heard they picked the new girls up just for KAPOS. The coach didn't want to compete against Pikeville (after they dropped down a level) so she picked up a girl inorder to move up a level. The coach said she would rather compete against SFHS than Pikeville. Seems a little unfair after the other girls have worked their butts off learning routines and having all the practice time. Now it's kind of like starting over to fit the new kid in. Oh well, good luck girls.
catsfan072
02-19-2006, 10:33 PM
Yes WOW, I totally agree. The other girls tried out, cheered all season long at all the ballgames, went to all the practices, and now it's like the coach just picks up another girl b/c she doesn't think the other girls can do it. It's really shady and totaly ridiculous.
The other girl was a cheerleader last year but decided not to cheer this year. She has always been on the eligibility sheet as an alternate, so that is why she is allowed to compete with the squad.

i think if our coach thought we wasnt good enough to compete by ourselves and had to add someone to get out of it.. i would quit after i worked my butt off all year.. but as for the coach.. i think she made a mistake.. competeing agaist SF will be no easier then competing against pikeville..

I thought each cheerleader had to have cheered a specific number of games in this season to be eligible for KAPOS competitions.
blackcatforever
02-19-2006, 11:55 PM
Yeah, I agree with everyone on here!!
All the cheerleaders are confused about it - there's so much going on and so many rules I don't think the coach has thought about yet.
I thought each cheerleader had to have cheered a specific number of games in this season to be eligible for KAPOS competitions.
The only eligibility requirement I have seen states "the squad must cheer for KHSAA sanctioned sporting events". I have not seen a specific number of games for the squad or individual to have cheered for. It may be in there, but I haven't seen it myself.
I think I would consider picking up a new girl this late in the game as a slap in the face. What about the girls who tried out and were cut, were they given the opportunity to come out now?

That is all that it says. You can add to the squad or sit people out for competition.
I honestly would have loved to see the medium competition between Pikeville and South Floyd with all that I have read about the All "A" tournament. It sounds like it would have been great to watch. It's too bad that Pikeville dropped down.

This is not that uncommon. especially with KAPOS. people change divisions everyday. i dont mean that it isnt uncommon to change to get away from pikeville (even though we have done the same thing to get away from others), this happens in all the other regions too.

JC is going medium. only because we had two girls that were our alternates and we promised them at the beginning of the year that they could compete at KAPOS. Pikeville didnt have their best showing at the semifinals of nationals. so they arent running scared they are just trying to be fair!!!!!

I know for a fact that Pikeville is going small! They have been planning on going small 4 a while.. The only reason they thought they might go medium is because they did last year... due to having more members on the squad.. now they dont so they are going small!
About the fact that they have 14 members.. two members do not compete although they are still active members of the squad. Pikeville has a lot of good cheerleaders so they have to pick their best twelve to compete..
So to clear everything up Pikevillle is going small!:Cheerlead

Let's set something straight....those "beer belly boys" that you are referring to were awesome on that squad. They were the linemen on the 2A State Championship Football team and excelled on that squad.
Your lack of love for Belfry and Mrs. Casey are understandable..most people hate what they can't be and won't ever be and that is Classy!
Unlike other squads...Belfry isn't afraid to compete in a division which has another squad in it.
Remember...Don't hate the best just because you can't be the best!

I think there is great competition in all divisions. I would like to see a Floyd County Sweep of Kapos. Small 2 1/2 Prestonsburg Med-South Floyd and Large-Betsy Layne I'll agree with Blackcatcheer. I hope that Floyd County comes away with all of it..no offense to anyone though..

Here's my predictions:
Medium:Prestonsburg
Small:Pikeville ( Maroon)
Traditional: Pikeville ( White)
COED: Thank god the beer belly boys are finally gone, Sherry Casey isn't going to win nothing this year!!!
This comment shows your JEALOUSY against Mrs. Casey and her squad. She is a great coach and loves her girls and always wants the best for them. Plus, evidentally you don't even know Mrs. Casey very well because if you did you would know she spells her name Sherrie. Your statement is totally :lame: . PERIOD !!

for your info those "beer belly boys" won the 2a state football title, has your football team ever won state back-to-back? She isn't the only one who wins. The girls on her squad have to want it bad enough and this year they do. And when they win they all get rewarded for it not only their coach.

I really hate to hear that and I hope that she is alright. I know that they moved up in a category when Pikeville moved down and have probably been adjusting their routine. I know how hard the girls work to get it as close to perfect as they can be and when one person gets injured that makes it twice as hard to overcome.

I know, better than anyone, that cheerleading is one of THE MOST competitive sports that is out there. As everyone knows, I am a diehard Belfry fan and will defend every Belfry athletic team until the end.
I will be cheering on Belfry Varsity to win 2 1/2 large and Belfry Co-ed in the co-ed division with everything in me!

i dont know about this year, pikevilles jr high is pretty good from what ive seen but they are extremely young if belfry did go against them and dominate them itd be because they are all 5-9th grade how fair would that be?
but dont say theres not any compeition because as i recall pikeville beat belfry outta going to state in 2003 and that was there jr high squad and they had 1 guy so obviously in recent years pikeville has been more than enough compeition for belfry

that guy was a freshman at the time so he was in high school
what makes it right? what doesnt make it right? if kids at that young of an age have talent why not compete and why would it matter if they are too young then it shouldnt be a problem for those high school squads if they are better than them and its not that those girls/guys wanna compete at a high school level there is no jr high, jv, or freshman levels at Kapos so they have to compete at a high school level theres really no choice

You're right and KAPOS recognized what a mistake had been made in judging and changed the rules to clarify what should be recognized as a Co-ed Squad and what the difference is in CO-ED and NON CO-ED stunting and the difficulty level that exist in each so that it would never happen again.
Belfry had MAJOR CO-ED stunts that year...co-ed single-base extension/libs/full outs, basket tosses that took people's breath away...LITERALLY!! Pikeville's boy backspotted....there was not one CO-ED stunt in their entire routine!
But, about the young thing...that is the age group that they have always been and will always continue to be...so if they chose to compete with the older people...don't use their ages as an excuse when they get beat by them.

Once again..here we go...
I was there when the squads declared...so I know exactly who was signed up, I saw it with my own 2 eyes...
Everyone had already declared and Mrs. Wheeler was the last to sign..guess what division had NO ONE in it...Traditional. So, it isn't that no one was afraid to enter that division against them...not one squad signed up for it in the first place.
Secondly, Pikeville Varsity WAS the first squad to sign up for the Medium Division and South Floyd signed second, so YES they did intend to go Medium and DID drop down to small.
As far as Belfry JV...They did a great job for just getting the boys their squad 3 week ago and 2 of those boys having never cheered a day in their life. This was their first year in the co-ed division and I am proud of them.

I think that you are reading the tone of my post different than the way than I am typing it......that is the downside to forums like this...
I never ever said anything about pikeville being afraid of South Floyd, I don't know where that came from:confused:
Even if pikeville always meant to be in small I was just clarifying that there were in deed signed up for Medium. I don't really care in what division they compete in...It doesn't bother me at all. As far as the fulls...I saw the Cline girl hit the full bounders at warm-ups and they were amazing. I also saw her sister hit them at state. I could watch that kind of tumbling all day. The standing full was awesome as well.
No there is no rule about adding anyone to the squad at any time before competition...the only rule is that 75% of the members competitng at a state at large competition must have competed on in the regional competition.

It really hurts the entire squad, not only physically, but mentally also. It has to be one of the most emotional things to overcome.
yeah i agree because then you have to find a way to fix it in a short time
and the person that has to be in that spot has a lot of pressure on them

they had 2 girls out. One was on cruches and the other was limping
I really wasn't implying anything, just stating what was declared by which squad on that day. There was also 5 squads that declared Large, but one went medium..I think it was Sheldon Clark and I noticed that they had one girl on crutches today.

Once again..here we go...
I was there when the squads declared...so I know exactly who was signed up, I saw it with my own 2 eyes...
Secondly, Pikeville Varsity WAS the first squad to sign up for the Medium Division and South Floyd signed second, so YES they did intend to go Medium and DID drop down to small.
If you truly did see it with your own two eyes, then you would have noticed that mrs.stone was not in attendance because of family obligation. They put pikeville back in medium becuase that is what they competed in last year. Since it was possible to switch divisions, it didnt really matter what anyone signed up for initially.
And as for the white squad. If you have recalled region in 2004, 2005, and this year, the white squad has competed in traditional. I guess you could say they were following "tradition" and going in the same division they had been for the past few years.
I wish that south floyd had gone small. Just for the opportunity to shut their mouths ourselves.

As a matter of fact, I did state in another thread that Mrs. Stone was out of town due to family obligations and wasn't in attendance. Pikeville's name was already on the list when it was handed out.
That is fine that they went traditional. I personally like traditional better than 2 1/2. I think that more and more squads are competiting in 2 1/2 to show off more tumbling and stunting.

Figure it out!
If it made any intelligent sense in the first place, I wouldn't have asked the question.
This thread is about predictions and the results are already in.
This one is finished!
