Nice! Coach Bradley should easily win the District and the Region this year. Nice to see 3 of our Kittens in the top 10! Good luck young ladies!

I look for Farris, Day, Fraley and Frye to carry their teams. IMO. I don't know about Gee, I haven't seen her play yet. But Ashland looks loaded.

I was told Fleming County beat them in East Carter's panorama. I'd hold off on handing them the trophy for a few days...

Starter did not play much Coach Bradley went 12 deep and got the bench alot of playing time. It would not have been that close of a game if starter would have played alot. It was close but they erased score after each quarter I think Ashland won two quarters and Fleming won two quarters

Coach Orem had the second best record in the 16th last season and should return 6 JR from last season. Fleming will be a tough out this season.

No doubt about it, Fleming will be a tough out come tourney time. Coach Orem's teams always play physical and intense. If ANY team looks past the Panthers this season they will also be looking at a loss.

Whitley should roll threw the 50th district.
I think they are better than 5th in the region as well.
That could be proven when they take on #2 ranked Harlan

Your right, Coah Orem's team will play hard for the entire game. I thought they looked good Saturday. They were not as deep as the kittens but play very hard. Well coached.

Thats the first 16th region basketball I've see in 5 years. It was like turning on the tv to a soap opera nothing had changed after 5 years! 16th region refs are the without a doubt the worst in the state! I saw fouls called on both teams that were unbeliveable!! If all the games are called like the games I saw saturday it will be 5 more years before I go back! The whole day was terrible the fans don't pay to see the officials they are there to see the kids play!

I'm anxious to see Peyton Wright (Owsley County) perform this year. She has been a steady player since her 8th grade year. She had quite a few double-doubles last year, and this season she will have more help with the addition of two guard transfers (a freshman and a sophomore). The entire team returns from last year.

They beat Breathitt in a scrimmage in Jackson by 11, with Wright scoring 30. And they played Perry Central to a 38-38 tie for one 20 minute half in Hazard (of course there were two 20 minute halves--so I won't talk about the second one, lol, except to say PCC did very well).

I think the Lady Owls should be a slight favorite in the 56th and have the potential to knock off some serious contenders in the region, (with the exception of PCC--the Lady Commodores aren't rated 3rd in the state for nothing. The 14th shouldn't be any trouble for them at all).

In the 15th I like Magoffin Co. and Sheldon Clark. Have seen Fleming Co., their teams always play hard and very physical. Ashland is good and deep.

This might be a stretch this year. It is my understanding they lost a coach/coaches and more than a few of the girls transfered.

I guess you were right. I felt they were definitely being underated. They have several very good players who have the colleges salavating. Don't forget this team is young, with most of the starters in their sophmore year. They are just going to get better and better! Go LADY COLONELS!

I think preseason polls are interesting because things get shaken up pretty quick. Like the fact that UNC was ranked 1st and was they hype in college basketball has faltered twice now. Doesn't mean they won't be there in the end but are not playing their best ball right now.

Bowling Green will shake up the region right off the bat. While Monroe Co has always had a reputation for providing good fundamental basketball...they may struggle with the athleticism that is at Glasgow and BG. Franklin-Simpson 8th? While FS is rebuilding a little don't count this scrappy group of girls out right off the bat. They are returning the little sister of Chasity Gooch who may just use her sophomore year as a break out year. She has a more athletic look than that of her older sister. This team is REALLY young with no seniors on the team 4 juniors who had some playing time and the rest a talented group of sophs and one 5'6 6th grade shooting guard who will see double minutes in a varsity game. With a new coach coming from a JuCo job...watch for these girls to POSSIBLY make a big impact on the fourth region. Time will only tell as they gain maturity.

What kids are getting looks from colleges?

To be completely honest im not sure.
I honestly believe before there careers are over Craig and Powers could be playing at somewhere like Cumberlands, however Craig could be playing D2 or D1 if she continues to improve.

Smith on the hand has surprised many. I knew she was underated going into the year, becuase watching her as a freshmen against seniors last year she looked good but broke her wrist and set most of the year and never really showed what she could do.
Now that shes playing as a sophomore shes scored over 20 in her first 3 games and is just a **** of an athlete, and one of the best oure shooters ive seen at Whitley in a while, probably since heather taylor.
If she keeps getting better she might start getting the attention Sara Hammonds got last year when she get to be a senior.

And as Wizzard said the best thing about this team is there are extremely young.
Smith and Craig are just sophomores and Powers is just a junior.

At an early glance, it seems Harlan Ind. is over rated. The guard play is not there and Mullins is laboring trying to carry the team.
