Webb is from Ashland. I being from the heart of EKY do not consider that EKY, but some may. Johnnie Lemaster is my pick.

I'm not sure where you learned geography, but look at a map of Kentucky.Â* Ashland is DEFINITELY in eastern KY.Â* It doesn't get much more eastern that that!

By the way, where exactly is the "Heart of EKY"?

Ashland is about as east as it gets. I live on the WV border in the "heart" of Eastern Kentucky and it is definitely eastern kentucky. Heck, the rest of the state think Richmond is Eastern Kentucky. Branon Webb is better then willie blair, and tony blair, even though tony blair is a prime minister??    Johnnie Lemaster also doesnt compare to Webb. Its not even a question really.

He hasn't graduated yet but when he does it will without a doubt be TC " The Goat" Maynard .. the only player to hit over a 3000 mile homerun he is without a doubt in my mind the best to ever play in eastern ky

Brandon Webb is very good but you have to go with Lemaster for his longetivity.

Lemaster played 12 years in the pros. What's so funny about that. I may be wrong but I would say that's about nine more years than you, me, and Webb have combined. Webb is very good but, so was Lemaster for a long time.

A poll was taken a few years ago of SanFrancisco Giants fans and LeMaster was voted by their fans as the Best Short Stop in Giants history. It was referred to at the time as the "Giants All Time Dream Team." That's pretty high accolades in my opinion considering that takes in probably about 85-100 years of Giants history.

Riley Hendrix is the best player I have seen in eastern kentucky...i dont get a chance to see that many kids play but from what I have seen riley is among the best!

Im sorry i just dont agree with your all's statements. You all are some MAJOR homers and refuse to see the special talent that brandon webb is. I will guarentee that he has a longer career then your beloved lemaster.

Be honest with us all, how many times did you see LeMaster play?

Webb was drafted in the 8th round out of college, LeMaster was the #6Â* player chosen in the draft overall out of HIGH SCHOOL.

Those fans out of SanFrancisco had a whole bunch of players that they could have voted the best of all time , but they chose the boy from Paintsville. I guess they were all HOMERS TOO, them being 4,000 miles away from Paintsville and all. I dont think that you are the one that really understands what a special talent that some possessed. I find it hard to understand how you can rate a player as high as you are Webb, that has only played for 3 years.

Last time I checked, draft place had no effort on the careers of an athlete.  Tom Brady - 6th round pick #199 overall pick, Ryan Leaf - 1st round #2 overall pick, which would you rather have?

Roger Clemens was selected in the 12th round of the 1981 draft.  The #1 overall pick that year was RHP Mike Moore.  I bet the Mariners and the rest of the league are still kicking their butts over that one.

Nolan Ryan was also selected in the 12th round but of the 1965 draft. 

LeMaster was a great player, and I don't know who is better, or who will be better when it's said and done.  But using draft position as part of your argument is pointless.

This is my first post here, but i think at this point in both of their careers, Brandon Webb is better. Im not sure what that will translate tom but i think Brandon Webb will be MUCH better then Lemaster.

I had never heard of Johnnie Lemaster, but I looked him up.Â* No offense to him or anyone who knows him, but his career stats are not that great.

12 seasons in MLB
.222 career batting average
.277 OBP
.289 Slugging
22 HR's
229 RBI

His best season for batting average was .254 (1979).Â* His best season for hits was 128 (1983).Â* His best season for HR's was 6 (1983).Â* His best season for RBI was 32 (1984).

Here is also a short bio I found:

Lemaster's career somehow spanned 12 seasons with 4 different teams despite a .222 career batting average. Considered a sweet-fielding shortstop who was not the most sure-handed, Lemaster was the 6th pick overall in the 1973 draft by the Giants and in his 3rd season in the minors, he was called up to the parent club. Ironically, he hit a home run in his first major league at bat, the first of 22 homers in nearly 3200 at bats during his career. Lemaster was a regular with the Giants for about 8 years and batted 8th twice more than he batted anywhere else in the lineup. You might have seen him batting leadoff or 7th often and once in a while he would hit 2nd but you'd never catch him in the middle of the lineup. What's more incredible is that Lemaster never had more than 32 rbis in a season and he averaged only 35 rbis per 162 games, a rate that is even low for leadoff hitters. He was the target of boobirds at Candlestick park for a long time and showing a great sense of humor, he sported a jersey for one game in 1979 with the name 'Boo' on the back instead of Lemaster. The fans booed him even harder that day and he switched back to his original jersey the next game and the nickname of 'Boo' Lemaster was born. In 1983, the Giants installed Lemaster at the top of their order, having him bat leadoff and hoping he could use his speed to help generate some offense. Lemaster would steal 39 bases and walk more often than ever but an obp of .315 from your leadoff hitter is still not acceptable. The Giants finished 4 games under that year and the experiment would end the following year. He left the game after the 1987 season after brief stints with the Indians, Pirates and A's, never hitting more than .155. He became head coach at Pikeville College in Kentucky and was named KIAC coach of the year in 1997. He is also a businessman as he became president of 3 corporations, one of which is Johnnie Lemaster's sports Inc. which operates sporting good stores in Kentucky. He speaks at schools and promotes saying 'No to Drugs'. He has even spent time as a city councilman in his hometown of Paintsville and is very active in the community. His 2 daughters were married in a double wedding ceremony in 1997 and one of his sons in law is Craig Ratliff. Notes: Lemaster hit well against Jerry Koosman (7/11 .636) and struggled against Fernando Valenzuela (5/37 with 16 k's)

I don't know about this era, but Johnnie LeMaster was definitely the worst of his era.

Now, that doesn't necessarily mean we should not be proud of a man who played major league baseball from EKY, but it doesn't sound like Brandon Webb needs to do much to surpass him.Â*

Well, i dont know much about the Giants, but if for some reason they voted Lemaster as the best SS there of all time, then they must not have a very proud tradition. You cant argue with numbers, and for all you "homers", lets see what you have to say about those numbers.......

Ive met johnny lemaster and he is great guy but that still doesnt overthrow the fact that he was below average major league player so it has to be brandon webb hands down.

Thats the thing Guru. Nobody knows why he stayed in the league that long. By the way it was 12 years. Face it P-ville folk, lemaster was terrible....He was a really good player and did much more then i could dream, but compared to the big league players, he was TERRIBLE!

The fact is that he WAS a major league player and not many can say that. I would like to know what your definition of terrible is. I know he might not have a great offensive numbers but being a great player does not mean that offense is the only category to look at. He was compared to Smith and Concepcion during his playing days as a Giant. I don't think either of those were great offensive players either but they were known mostly for their defense. Twelve years in the majors is an honor and he must have been pretty darn good at it to stay that long.

No offense, but I haven't seen anywhere Lemaster was compared to Smith or Concepcion. In fact, his two errors on opening day at Candlestick Park is still a record!

Lemaster playing for 12 years in the MLB is an impressive feat. However, he was not a very good MLB player. Saying he is the best ever for EKY (and maybe he is) does NOT say alot about players from EKY.

Yeh Tiller was good, but not the best form Eastern Kentucky. Best from Sheldon Clark, by far. I will say that if Tiller was around in Lemaster's time he would have been drafted BEFORE Peanut. JMO.
