The reason that gas is so high in California, is that the citizens voted that certain additives have to be added to the gas to prevent pollution. These additives help drive the price of gas up there...

These may not be the "official" reasons that gas prices are going up, but this is why I think that the futures have gone up, driving the price of gas up,according to articles I have read, and interviews that I have seen:
1. The President of Iran, has stated that if the UN ( Read US ) imposes sanctions on them for enriching Uranium for "Peaceful" means, then he will halt all oil produciton in His country. Today, the President of Iran announced to the world that they have indeed successfully have enriched Uranium to be used for fuel for "Peacefull" means.
2. The production of oil in Iraq has reached It's lowest levels since pre-war levels.
3. The President of Venezuela stated in an interview last month, that he was considering cutting production of oil in his country until the US gave him assurances that they were not going to invade His country. ( This goes back to the Latino "Machismo" thing where He is going to show the rest of Latin America that he can bring the US down when ever He wants to) We get quite a bit of oil from Venezuela.
All of this has the "future traders" worried that they are not going to be making lots of money over a long period of time, so they have to make what money they can in the short term.
Side Note: When gas was $3.00 a gallon, Exxon oil was making a "BILLION" dollars of profit every day.

Gas prices are predicted to be in the $3.00 range all summer long. Prices have gone up so much recently because crude oil has risen and is getting closer to $70 a barrel. There have been no new refineries built in this country for decades and many have been closed, leaving each remaining one to operate at 100% capacity. The least fear or small shutdown causes the prices to escalate.

NBC news last night did a story on it and they said that gas prices could reach as much as $4.00 a gallon if there is any kind of crisis in the middle east by summers end. Also due to the fact that alot of the oil rigs in the gulfcoast are still unoperational due to the Hurricanes from last summer.....
It's a bad situation....that might get a whole lot worse

If the environmentalists and tree huggers would let us drill for oil off shore in the US we would have enough oil to support ourselves. Plust the fact they won't allow a new refinery to be built anywhere. GW isn't the reason for high gas prices. Try the other side.

Clinton couldn't have stopped the hurricanes. They weren't drilling for oil here when he was in office. You can't blame the price of gas right now on who is in office. The war in Iraq isn't why gas is $3.00 a gallon. The president is a scapegoat for the ignorant.

Bush and chaney both are for the oil company they are shareholders. Did you see how much profit the oil company made last year? This is third quarter last year 2005.The industry's third-quarter profits jumped 62 percent to nearly $26 billion as Exxon Mobil, the nation's biggest oil company, posted the fattest corporate profit in history. Oil company's stocks are up some 40 percent from a year ago.

when i first got my corolla i could fill up from the E @ 1.60 something for around 14-15 dollars. Now @ 2.69 takes $26 to fill it up. But i agree it could be alot cheaper but im glad it's not like 70-80 dollars. I would never fill up again if it was!
I just paid 28 dollars to fill mine up and my car was above a quarter of a tank...like close to a half. I figure it'll probably be about $40 to fill it up if it were on empty.

I read a couple of analysts reports today, and they are predicting $3.50-$4.00 gallon prices by mid-summer. Is it just me, or are these analyst"s predictons "self-serving". It seems that no sooner than they post their reports, the gas prices go up accordingly.
Exxon gave their retiring CEO, Lee R. Raymond, a 69.7 million dollar compensation package and a 98 million dollar pension payout. It even has some shareholders and economists asking "How much is enough".

Not that I'm rubbing it in -- But I filled my standard-shift Ford Focus up for 25 bucks and am currently getting 35 miles per gallon. Its a good feeling.
Yes, I'd like for prices to go down, so maybe I could pay 15 bucks for a tank of gas, but its not breaking me to pay for gas right now...
People should consider getting more fuel efficient vehicles. Demand for fuel would be lower...

I drive a 2.4, 4 Cylinder myself and I don't drive too often here in Lexington but rather walk...So it's not breaking me up too bad on money, but it's just the principle of the fact for me that they're making so much money off of people...I'd love it if just for one day the U.S. went on strike from buying any gasoline..Sure millions would still buy it, but imagine what kind of message that would send, because millions still wouldn't buy it....They'll keep raising the prices as long as we're feeding the beast...

I believe that these prices would be a bit easier to take if there were valid reasons for them....at no time when we are paying what we are paying for gasoline should a company have record profits...And the reasons that the media gives to us for the rising gas prices don't exactly wash either, Nigeria has been unsettled for how long as well as any other mid eastern country-
What I would love to see happen as a result of this is to seriously look for alternative fuel resources...open the Alaskan are for drilling and to re-open refineries that were closed previously to meet the rising demand.
