I took mine apart, just the cover and cleaned the laser and it worked fine.

I got a solution for ya.. Play games without the laser.. You can ftp your games via your computer to your xbox hard drive and play them off the hard drive.

This reduces loading times and disc swapping.. Only thing you will need to do is install a larger hard drive. I have 160 gb in mine. It will hold about 50 to 60 games at a time.

You can get a 160 gb from tigerdirect for 69.00.. A new dvd rom for the xbox will set you back about 75.00..

Let me know if you want me to put a larger hard drive in your xbox.

I have that done to my xbox....works good... transfer all your games to your harddrive.
