Do any of you think there is a team in the 15th that can contend for the state title?

Not this year. It's just hard for the 15th to have the fire power the bigger schools in this state have.

Fire power is one thing...how about size also...

i think that the style of ball the 15th ragion plays has a lot to do with it.........no one in the 15th really runs and guns. In this region that should be all every team does because there is no size at all. But i dont think the 15th will compete for the state foe a long time either

No, never, it would be a fluke. I understand we ever so often get some talent in the region, but it seems we can't put together a WHOLE team to compete at state. It is hard for players to play their roles on a team like the tigers did in the late 90's.

It could happen again but it would take the stars aligning correctly.
Ball handler, shooter, 3 players over 6' 4"...doesn't happen often in Eastern Ky does it?

YES HE WILL BE AT PAINTSVILLE!
He is also on the Golf Team and just played in a Tourney @ Pikeville this past week. So everyone can just leave this rumor and him alone and let the kid play ball.

No team in the 15th region has a chance at competing for the state championship in basketball.

The 15th guard play is always decent, we just have have some big time 4's and 5's to develop so we can compete statewide.

Shelby Valley will be a contender. They will be pretty good this year.

Are you saying that Shelby Valley will contend for a state championship??

I wouldn't say never, but it will be a while before a team from E. Ky will be a contender. I think it will take a team with good guards and a good post player with some size, with plenty of depth and a very good draw.

The 15th Needs to step up their tempo in order to compete with teams at the state level...

Maybe, or maybe not. Either way keep the personal stuff outta this thread.

Well the 15th may contend for a state Championship sooner or later but I'm not sure the talent level will ever be what it was at least in my lifetime, it has dropped so much in the last 3 years or so that it is unbelievable to me, not just in the 15th but all over the state...
Just look at our last two Mr. Basketballs, Dominic Tilford(05') who went to Louisville but realistically is not a D-I caliber player and will never see any minutes there and Walt Allen(06') who is a great kid who signed with a D-II school but 5-10 years ago he would have never been mentioned for this award...These guys a good players no doubt...But compare then to past Mr. Basketballs like yourself in 98' or Rex Chapman(86),John Pelfrey(87'), Richie Farmer(88'), and Allen Houston(89) and so on..There is no comparision..I didn't mean to get off topic but I just wanted to throw in information to backup what I was saying...It's just puzzling to me, I still love watching HS basketball in Kentucky, It's great, and there are still some very good players but compared to a few years ago not even close and it seems to be getting worse every year...It may just be me but thats the way I see things.

I don't expect any 15th teams to win the state anytime soon. But it can happen. We have to have some big guys to do it though. And then you have to have some good shooters to go with them. Hard to get it all together in a given year. But is has happened and I think it may again SOMETIME.

Didn't Virgie win state not long ago in middle school and didn't Dorton win some games down state???? Give Valley a couple of years they have 2 of the best feeder programs in the mountains.

The 15th doesn't have the size and actually a team that was blessed in all areas of the game. It takes more than one boy that can shoot to win a game. You can just stand at the arch and bust them, you have to be able to play defense and keep the other team from down state, who has FIVE guys that could stand there and bust them, from scoring.
Size is a big factor. One of the tallest guys from the region was years ago from Feds Creek High School. He was 6'6" or more but couldn't play ball if he had to.

There is a lifetime of difference in middle school and high school basketball. What is considered a big man in middle school is usually a guard or small forward in high school. My personal opinion is that guard play will not win a state championship. You have to have a inside and outside game to compete at that level.

That's what I'm saying BB.
