They have no answer for Lucas, and the running game off valley. Sv will not stop Varney either, but I think that SV will dominate on the line.

I think that this will be a great game and i believe that Valley can stop Varney if they play as good as they did last night against MT....Merchant I believe is one that Valley will have trouble with if he decides to run the ball.

If it comes down to a coaching battle, Pike Central wins.
Chris McNamee is the better coach and is a classy guy but I think SV has too much for the Hawks.

Hey PCC fans your team is just fine, They have a solid line on both sides of the ball, And with Varney back he will turn the team around. Good luck the rest of the season.

Breaking out the new field! Should be a dandy! Lucas Simpkins had two amazing catches Friday aginst Midland Trial. One on which I thought shoulda been the LGS Catch of the Week on Sports OT. On where he went up aginst two Mid. Trail defenders and can down with it and the other a diving laid out catch for a td. Keep it in the air! Only problem I see Valley having is if Merchant decides to run from the qb spot it hurt Valley bad aginst matewan. But Im going on Valley gettin the win by at least 2td's they dont wanna be the first team to play on the turf and the first team to lose on it.
My players to watch:
SV- Tyler Johnson, Lucas Simpkins, Tyler Cable, and Dillion Hughs.
P.C-Quvorn(sp?) Merchant, Gordon Varney.

Hes actually on the d-line and o-line. He had like 4 fumble recoveries and like 10 tackles last week should cause some problems for Varney. Him and John Johnson to.

This game will come down to the play of the Valley line backers. They let down aginst Matewan. And played pretty good aginst Midlan Trail. But if Valleys gonna win this game its all on there line backers and d-line.
Valley will win this one...it's their first game on the turf and their first actual home game

I agree:thumpsup:....Both teams has improved alot this season and with Varney back PC's running game will be alot better this week but i still look for Merchant to be the one who makes the big plays....Valley will have a tough time but their not just a running team any more, they have been putting it in the air and making big plays when they do, so i will have to say that Valley will take this one....i don't think that PC will be able to stop Valley's passing game

Pike Central has played 2 fairly good 3A teams (Boyd Co. and Lawerence Co.) very close, and beat a much improved East Ridge team. On the other hand Shelby Valley has beaten 1A Phelps, got beaten by Matewan and beat no-name Midland Trail. Valley does have some good backs, but Johnson hasn't impressed me at all. Cable is the better of the 2. Pike Central is fast and now have another dimension in their offense and much improved defense.........With that said Pike Central 32 Shelby Valley and their new turf and new uniforms 24

Well I was going to watch UK and Miss. In Commonwealth but I will not miss this cross county rivalry game and huge district tilt.
Well I just heard this game is being moved to Saturday night. Is it going to be played at SV? Or will it be there second home game be played at Hillard Howard Field. Will see!
Why is the game being delayed to Sat. Night? What is the hold up this time? Is it that hard to lay down fake grass? Can’t the SV administration find any good carpet layers up there in the Caney area? Is it the rain or the carpet layers that is causing the hold up?
This is a real coming out party for SV even New Uniforms?
Okay let’s get down to the real facts of this game.
1. Passing Game: SV does pass the ball pretty well and I give them credit there. PC has some weapons to, Merchant to Nichols, Ratliff, and Hampton. Take for instance the last drive of the Pike County Bowl and the two huge pass plays to Nichols to seal the win for PC.
2. Running Game: PC all the way in this one Merchant, Varney, Buckley and they have two big fullbacks in the Carter and Meade kid that can get a few yards. Carter made a couple big runs against ER.
3. Defense: SV has the big Johnson kid up front and he is a load. SV could not stop the McCoy kid from Matewan he went thru them like a dose of caster oil and he is a pretty darn good running back. PC is big up front and they have some pretty good line backers in Carter, Meade, and Merchant. The defensive end is the Hampton kid and he is going to be a dandy and he has a nose for the ball. Corners for PC are going to have to play big in this one. PC Here.
4. Special Teams: PC in this one. Merchant had a huge kick off return to start the second half against Boyd County. Kicking Game to PC and also the Punting game. PC needs to watch for the trickery of the point after, they tried it against Matewan.
5. Depth and Condition: Is SV in Condition? I thought SV got tired against Matewan in the forth quarter and they looked wore out. They could not substitute any kids to give there kids a blow. Midland Trail made a run on them to. PC looks to be in condition, and they a good number of kids out to where they can rest some kids both ways. I heard they had a real good summer in there conditioning program. PC here.
6. Who can stay away from the turn over bug? This could be a huge factor!
I pick PC in this one.

LOL Thats funny stuff. Obviosuly you all don't go outside much. Its awfully hard to lay carpet in the rain wouldnt you think? There having some problems with the weather. Well lets see the last time Valley played at Pikeville they put up stats like this:
Rushing- 234 yards on 52 att.
Cody Mitchell-98 yd. 2tds. on 16 carries.
Brock Kinney-47 yards on 15 carries.
Jonah Justice- 43 yards on 9 carries.
Chris Yates-54 yards on 5 carries
Passing- 14 of 23 for 218 yds.
Tyler Johnson-5 of 7 for 116 yards and two tds.
Cody Varney- 9 of 16 for 102 yds.
Recieving-
Lucas Simpkins-6 catches for 66 yards and a td.
Colby Newsome-3 catches for 34 yards and a td.
So as far as Im concerned Lets play the rest of the season at Pikeville. All the comments about our turf makes me think that all you Pike Central fans are jealous that you wasnt the next Pike County school to get turf :(. As for the new uniforms for Valley. They will be playing in probly the black on balck like they had last year. They just switch it up a lil this year. Like aginst MT. They went with white pants and black jerseys. Should be a good game. But Im gonna go out on a limb hear and say Valley shuts down Varney! The star back for this game will be Cody Mitchell.

Since you pretty much went over the whole PC greats in your run down Ill go with the Valley Side.
1. Passing game-Advantage Shelby Valley. Johnson is a better passer than Merchant. Merchant is a runnign qb. A speedster more like along the lines of how Timmy Griffith was a few years ago for Valley. Valley also has my advantage in recievers. Lucas Simpkins could possibly be the best reciver in the Mts. He is definatly the best in Pike and Floyd Countys. Take for instance the 5tds he alreayd has this year or the two catches he made at Pville. And also Colby Newsome who if you all forgot got a little seasoning this summer in the down under bowl(which his team won) Plus MT had a D1 caliber corner, ER not so much.
2.Running game-Toss up in my book. PC has Varney and Merchant. Valley has Yates, Kinney, Mitchell, and Justice. Valley goin with the running back by comitee should help them in this game not letting one back get to tired. a slight edge could be given to PC with all the hype for Varney.
3.Defense-advantage Valley. With Cable leading the d-line along with Johnson and Gillispie(sp?) Valley should be able to handle Varney they had some problems with the back from matewan but they shut MT down.
4. Special teams-PC I guess because Valley has no kicking game. Returns Im gonna say are even with Simpkins and Merchant.
5.Depth and conditining-PC may have the depth but I am gonna say Valley is better conditioned the kids from Valley are getting used to goin both ways and it could be a little cooler friday night than it was at South Floyd. And the comeback MT made aginst Valley was froma blocked punt and interceptions with the a few back ups in.
Valley big in this one. And if it rains Friday so what were on the turf whether we play at Valley or at Pikeville so let it rain let it rain let it rain touchdowns from tyler johnson to Lucas and Colby!!!!!!!!!!! Valley Big 42-14!!!!

ok well seeing that LC won against PC and thier record is 1-3 and PC beat ER by only 1TD(which wouldnt have happened if Quirvon Merchant didnt complete the pass with like 30 seconds to go in the 4th quarter)and that was thier only win i dont see how they have a chance against Valley....besides passing camps and the real game is totally different so to tell you the truth i dont think you know what your talking about

pike central has lost to boyd county and Lawerence county. Now most of the itme those are actually pretty good teams..
Valley has beat Midland trail.. and i'll admit i have no clue who these guys are.. and they beat matewan, and Phelps..
now phelps was a given, and matewan was a pretty good game..
so it looks like this will be a pretty good game.. no one is goin to get blown out

I gotta go with Valley in this one. They look too good with the leadership of their new coach, they look like a whole different team. I dont believe that any team in their district should overlook them in any way.

Anyone who has seen Midland Trail regardless of their Rankings in WV knows they're not a very good football team. East Ridge is much improved team and a win in a close game against a district opponent in the Pike Co. Bowl counts as a big game. Biased, yes very. GO PC

1-3 doesnt mean anything in district they are 1-0 in district which means alot we all know playing a distirct game first game of the season is one of the toughest things that you can do...Pike Central will come out victorious and if not then you can say you told me so but until then you will not change my mind...and i love how your taking away a great 2 min drill drive my Merchant and his hawks to beat East Ridge...

I beleive that ER gave PC a run for their money in the county bowl. I was right up there in the stands watching the whole game.
