Not a doubt in my mind Micheal Tackett Johnson Central his counter part Blake Johnson is good too just doesn't seem healthy. Tackett playes hard on every play and hits someone hard every play.

Nathaniel Stephens for Prestonsburg has done really well this season and he is a good size LB at 6'3 230lb(just a guess) ! He is in on every tackle !

Jon Shriner is an excellent LB for Powell County..although he may not get the credit he deserves..very strong and works very hard. Had over 110 tackles last year. Expect big things out of him this year.

I think that Jon Shriner from powell is the hardest hitting Linebacker I know.He will hit you and he stands about 6'2 and close to 300 pounds and he can move when he wants to.I'm not for sure but i think hes throwing up well over 350 in the weight room.He is also a very talented center.Good lead blocker and is capable of blocking several defenders in one play.

If you extend the mountains up through the hills to Ashland I'd take Fields Davis who returns for his senior after being named 2nd team all-state last season. He seems to be in on every tackle for the Tomcat defense and has about 80% of the big hits.

If Midee and Devilologist keep on insisting that Russell is part of the "mountains" then Ashland must be as well. That being the case Davis must be considered. He makes every big stop for Ashland. He is a tremendous football player.

Also Josh Wills of Russell. Very similar to Davis.

The scary part about Davis and Wills is the fact that they could pass for brothers. Same build, same hair, but Wills is a touch taller and Fields a bit stockier.

Haha not quite. I was with Fields at the Ashland/Russell JV game and he was commenting on how he liked Wills face paint. Both of those young men have tremendous respect for each other. So maybe in the future :shh:

because they are a class a school, and also last time i checked a is significantly smaller than 2a,3a, and 4a. so that is where i get the term smaller or small or however you would like to say it.

Pikeville is right now near the top of the 1A schools, but the 6th and 7th grade classes that are coming up are the smallest in the system in years.

Michael Tackett and Blake Johnson from JC.

SunDoctor

Has to be Tackett and Johnson from Jc. With their taalent and their coaching they are second to none. Glen Reeves has taken these boys under his wings as if they were his own children and turned them into linebackers that will have offensive coordinators wondering why the ball isn't being moved. Where ever there is a tackle being made, you can count on them being there. I would put them against any two linebackers in Eastern KY or the state IMO!!

i am not going to say this because i am a russell fan but if anyone out there saw the ashland russell game they would have noticed that all ashland linebackers were doing all night was chopping the linemen. unlike wills, that fights through blocks and makes tackles. ashland relied to much on making kasey clark try to take the sideline and get caught by their outside contain. after the linemen realized this they simply took them to the ground while clark hurddled over them. this strategy won't win you many games. you cant forget about beekman from russell, he doesn't have much size at all but is quick and hits like a loaded spring. just wish he had some more size on him.

The players doing that weren't linebackers. Those are monsters (defensive backs) in our defensive scheme, even though they are lined up near an outside linebacker position. Ashland only has 2 linebackers in their scheme. Russell moved Wills to the backfield to lead block. Do you really expect Matt Thomas to run over Wills to make a play? It's just common sense that a player tremendously oversized and overpowered against a blocker is going to do his best to dump the bodies as far upfield as possible, thus stringing out the play. I can guarantee Davis or Cordle weren't undercutting blockers except on lead plays to cause a pile up.

Russell in the mountains,OK,Josh Wills #56 6' 200lbs top dog. Pound for pound #9 Aaron Beekman 5'8 150 the kids in on every play...has an interception and a fumble recovery...cant forget the interception in the championship game last year...and has a touchdown this year

It doesn't matter if he's that big if he can't catch a quick scat back sprinting to the outside.

On that note, I'll say Blake Johnson 6'1 250 pounds from JC is the best in the mountains. He can catch backs from behind and stuff a lead blocking fullback at the line to clog up the holes.:devilflam
