Did they chicken out or was there other reasons such as Illness, injury or conflicting schedules.

Tell me where Virgie would play when the SV field isn't finished and that is where they have always played? You lie about them saying they are flooded, the school maybe, the field no, because they don't have one.
If Pikeville wants them so bad then why don't they host the game? They have the High school field and up at the track where they could play.

It was a monsoon today!! No one wants to sacrifice their field this early in the season, especially for a jr. high game. Like I said earlier, some of you young boys are embarrassing a tradition rich program with this garbage that you are posting!!

KHSAA only polices HIGH SCHOOL. Middle school does not fall under their review. It is not the KMSAA it is KHSAA.

People aren't afraid to play Pikeville...QUIT making OUR school look bad. There is a lot of talent coming up at Pikeville right now with the talented underclassmen playing quality minutes on Friday night and the JV and Jr. High teams are talented. The future is looking better with regards to the Pikeville football program than it has in about a decade IMO...lets them do the talking on the field in the next couple of seasons on FRIDAY NIGHTS when the games count. I could care less who wins a Jr. High and/or JV game, its all about getting the kids better and ready for when their name is called on Friday nights in the varsity game...Pikeville will be one of the top teams in EKY for several years on the horizon.

Your right! Corbin is a VERY GOOD team!
Our "tradition rich program" played them for our very first opening game :yikes: . It was a good game! Top of the 4th score was 20-7. Final 26-7 Corbin. I have "heard" that they had not been scored on before Belfry and that this was their 4th or 5th game. I also heard that Corbin beat Pikeville 28-0 without Corbins starting running back.
Belfry/Pikeville should be a good game!! But I dont see where we should be scared if we're playing 8th against 8th.

DUDE!!!!!!! I agree with the following:
I could care less who wins a Jr. High and/or JV game, its all about getting the kids better and ready for when their name is called on Friday nights.
I also feel the same about our JFL. We have coaches who are so bent on winning that they forget we are all from the same school. This is why I am pushing for us to go to grade ball. Our kids get tired of beating on each other and then have to go to school listening to other kids who taunt and tease their schoolmates.. This builds hostilities and seperation in the school, NOT THE BEST WAY TO BUILD TOGETHERNESS AND TEAM WORK IN MY OPINION.
Sorry for the rant on JFL... But the point you posted says it all. Its all about prepping the kids for High School ball.

Some of what you say is true and you have a right to your opinion...but the part that you could care less, what are you doing here :dontthink thats a low blow! Those kids care!! They give up as much time of their summers and after school and they practice their butts off with the same blood, sweat and tears as the kids a couple of years older than them! Their parents and sibblings also give up a lot ALL FOR THE LOVE OF THE GAME and yes to prepare for High School! But after all they do for football and for their coaches YES they care if they win or lose. They need to learn from their losses but yes they care and they should care, thats where trying hard comes in at.
It dont hurt them to play against each other  its no different than playing each other all season during Baseball then in the end several kids from each team who fought to beat each other all year, COME TOGETHER and create an All star team thats awesome because they forget last month and play as a team and they are also friends and classmates off the field. If you dont care about who wins other than varsity then IMO you shouldnt post in anything other than varsity threads because these kids read this stuff...and they care

Okay let me clarify----- I could care less.... is in refence to the winning by all costs....... The post was copied for the fact of people focus on winning so much that rules get stretched and lines get blurred. Try going to play a 5th grade game and find out the other team has 7th graders on the team wearing practice jerseys on so you cant figure out who is who. I do care about kids or I would not be in the game.........EVER heard a coach tell a kid " you should have broken your leg this week so I would not have to play against you." Have kids comeup to your son during the pregame and tell you that they are going to break ther arm in the game.... Wanna scare a kid to death, have him listen to that...... Yes I know about being friends and schoolmates, but hearing this from SOME or a COUPLE of kids will make you think twice at times about having your son ona football field espescially if they are just young kids. I am not saying that the coach told the kid to say it but when the coach is informed of the kids words he laughed it off and said. "well, kids will be kids" Tryto explain that to a kid who loves football and then have to play WITH the kid during the end of the season team when they all come together by grades..

NOT taking away from the kids the night Belfry played Pikeville!! Both teams played hard. Thumbs up to all of the kids from both teams!!!
But after reading all this lol I HAVE to wonder what the reaction would be if someone said....Belfry could have won the game against Pikeville the other night. Our boys didn't play the first quarter and it was only a TWO point game....I've watched them all year, I know what they are capable of and I know both of their records....and IM NOT blaming refs, as I said BMS didnt play the first quarter just check out the rest of the game. And Im also SURE there were calls missed on BOTH sides but I MYSELF saw where there was holding, 2 face mask (both kids slung on the ground), pass interference and offsides not called against Pikeviile. Not making excuses just like these others on here are not, but with an open mind...it could have just as easily went the other way. BEFORE anyone replies to quick or imaturely PLEASE re-read and remember that Im not blaming the refs or making excuses. Some people have acted like Pikeville BEAT (killed) Belfry.....it was 2 points!! Pikeville won. GREAT job Pikeville

Panther 44,
Could you please try to use proper spelling and puncuation?
Also, If one student were to be seriously injured because of poor equipment your entire perspective would change.
A game...any game is not worth a serious injury because of equipment.
BTW...I think it is sad that a school like Pikeville cannot fund it's junior high program. If this continues, It will show in Pikeville's varsity program in a couple of years.
I wonder if the community is aware of this.

its not that pikeville cant fund its jr high, thats absurd. they are just trying to cut back on expenses so the team can get better equipment and things of that nature. it doesnt help the cause when you drive all the way to leslie co on a saturday for a game then you get there and they have scheduled a game with another team and hadnt told us any different. yes we called them on the thurs. before the game and they said it was on. but it was a different story when we got over there. i miss the old conference not only because it was the one that i played in, but because of the competition. the kids cant help what happens at the board levels and what they decide, all they can do is keep playing football no matter what the conference. at least we get belfry every year now.

No, it's not, that's sugar coating the problem.
If Pikeville were properly funding the program then the proper needed equipment would be in place AND they would be able to afford the costs involved in playing/traveling to play Quality competition.
Watch and See...when a team plays lessor competition, they will suffer down the road.

Pikeville did not drop out of the Big Sandy Confrence because level of talent or competition it is because the Pike Co. offered to get them back in the confrence they once were years ago.
Belfry is a very good (GREAT) football school as well as pikeville they are the leaders so far in this confrence and are both loaded with talent.
Oh and all of the people criticizing these two teams for not being as talented as years before remember its not the size of the dog in the fight, its the size of the fight in the dog. And both of these teams as well as others (dont get me wrong i am not downing any other team) have played and practiced they're hardest every day!
You will see both of these teams in 2-3 years walk out of louisville with a state ring on their finger.

first off the equipment is in fine shape, the other kid was talking about jerseys and things like that. but they too are in decent shape and fairly new. if pikeville and belfry are going to suffer down the road make sure you come see me down the road. because both schools will have something to say about that.

Who said anything about Belfry??
It's already started at Pikeville.
Smaller enrollment in upcoming grades, smaller kids(look at the lack of depth on the line), more kids playing soccer...Pikeville has stayed ahead of the pack by playing better competition...My point is unless the jr hi kids are challenged regularly there will be a drop off in the future.
Come on guys, what does Pikeville gain by playing teams like Mullins??

Come on old timer ----- soccer!!!! Nobody on the soccer team is going to play football except for the current kicker for the high school. These kids will be heavily challenged during the month of October once the county season is complete. The sixth and seventh grade classes are smaller, but the ones behind these two are very large. I can not agree with you on them not being challenged either. The competition is down, but Belfry and Corbin are good, and Millard is not too bad either. They are being challenged in the fact that they have played six games in the last two weeks. They will be challenged again when they play Belfry in the county finals. They will have had all they want when the season is complete.

nice post hillbilly i agree completely. and old timer, i mentioned belfry because someone else said something about them playing in the conference as well as us. there is plenty of talent coming uo at pikeville, and these work there butts off. our off season program is grueling. we had a pikeville college football player( who does nothing but work out and looks like a greek god) try to work out with us this summer, he made through one day and said it was harder than anything he had ever done before. and ive seen the guy work out for 7 straight hours before. i know its fun to talk about the future, but keep watching and we will surprise you, since you obviously think we will be aweful in the next few years.

Yep
SOCCER...try to look beyond next season.
Soccer is taking the young athletes that would play football but will never try when they are in 3rd or 4th grade because it's an option for them.
BTW...six games in two weeks is not challenging as far as football goes when competition is weak...challenging toward conditioning not the Big Picture.

I know there is talent coming, BUT PLENTY??? I don't think so.
That's my point the quantity is not there.
And please don't put words in my mouth, I never said they would be awful in the next few years. Pikeville will be average(beat their district competition then get spanked by a northern KY team)...play average competition you will never get better....How many games does Pikeville play?? Ten?
Belfry, Corbin, Belfry again...that's only 30% of your games against challenging opponents.

The eighth graders season will not be done after the county finals. Do not jump to conclusions about the quality of their October competition.

does anyone know if pikeville can compete in the county tournment or do they still play hold backs? just asking cause i am not sure. Its school policy that if a child is held back it sits out of sports one year so no Pikeville cant play holdbacks.

Have some class? Every team will go through ups and downs with talent and abilities. That is just the facts here in EKY with a limited population base to draw students from. It would be nice to be able to draw students like the large metro areas (LEX-Louis-NKY) but we in EKY have to develop what talent is blessed with each school.

YES it was about four or five years ago that Virgie and Pikeville played at Bob Amos Park when Virgie was undefeated. The Eagles left the hill with a major spanking. Virgie has had a lot a of good talent over the last few years and this year they are down, but like I said in a previous post it will run in cycles.
