I think it will be a great year for the panthers, dispite a coach change

Posted Thu Jan 20, 2005 9:28 am:

They have many returning players and a few sophmores that have alot of speed. I look for good things in 05'

Pikeville will always be one of the best teams in 1A, I just dont see them having a team as good as they had last year, they just lose too much size and talent in gibson, shurtleff, and sullivan...... That was one heck of a 1A football team last year

liveMAROON
01-20-2005, 12:49 PM
They have alot to live up to this coming year and hopefully they can make it back to the promise land where they belong. IMO they will be just as good as they were last year because despite what they have leaving.....they are returning just as many skill players

T-Blankenship78
01-20-2005, 12:59 PM
I agree with Live Maroon, IMO pikeville will step up as always

Red and Black
01-20-2005, 01:02 PM
Is there anybody returning that can match up with the speed and sizes of Sullivan, Gibson and Shurtleff?? They were some big and fast young men.

panthermania
01-20-2005, 01:08 PM
I think they will be better than they were last year.....a more experienced QB....the honaker twins.....the return of robinson.....if pikeville finds some talented redievers then i llok for them to be in the state finals.

T-Blankenship78
01-20-2005, 01:09 PM
YES, we have some younger player ready to step up such as: Ryan Shurtleff, Brad Brynt, Tyler Carter, and some other players. Of course we also have Robinson returnings. I'm looking for a great year from him.

liveMAROON
01-20-2005, 04:19 PM
OHOHOHOHOHOHOH Dont even get me started on the honaker twins.....those boys display some of the greatest football talent i have ever seen. not big in size but they play with the heart and thats all that matters like John Mayo they can hit you and make you like it

Red and Black
01-20-2005, 04:25 PM
Sounds like a good pre-season hype in pikeville again. I wish they played Prestonsburg again this year, we have had some good games in the past 2 years. Has pikeville decided their 4 non-district opponents yet?

liveMAROON
01-20-2005, 04:32 PM
I am understood that they will indeed play NCC in the pike county bowl and I've heard some stories about them bringing Grundy VA
over

panthereuphoria

i believe they are NCC, Corbin, Belfry, and one more that I cant think of right now

youve got to have more than two wide receivers

whose gonna step up for pikeville?

panthermania
01-20-2005, 05:19 PM
That is a good question...

T-Blankenship78
01-20-2005, 05:39 PM
If hollaway and davis perform in the class room they will step up. who do you guy think will be the jv offense and defense next year

Scammy
01-20-2005, 05:41 PM
I think that Sam Morando will step up and make an excellent WR

T-Blankenship78
01-20-2005, 05:44 PM
haha marando, and priode will break the 1 yard mark lol. Me, a linemen, had moreyards than that kid this year

Farva
01-20-2005, 05:44 PM
Pikeville will be about the same as they were this year. They should be favored to win the region, but they had better get a whole lot better if they want to compete with Beechwood and NCC. NKY proved how much better they were last year in the state semi-finals. The major question marks for Pikeville next will once again be the offensive line, and they might have some problems at LB. The Panthers lost 4 good experienced linebackers to graduation, that will be tough to overcome, especially early in the season.

T-Blankenship78
01-20-2005, 05:57 PM
any other coments on jv

Farva
01-20-2005, 06:00 PM
Not really sure on who will be playing JV yet, because it'll be those who don't play varsity. And since we don't know who all is going to be playing varsity, it makes it hard for the JV

panthermania
01-20-2005, 06:16 PM
Scammy....Morando.....morando is quick and talented.......I just think he has too big of a head...He is always goin around talkin about himself.....lol......but seriously......mirando is good......i seriously think with a little hard work he could be one of the best WR pikeville has this year...

liveMAROON
01-20-2005, 06:42 PM
Blankenship You need to learn your facts..no one really cares about pikeville JV right now they are more worried with the Varsity...i mean ive seen in you posts that you say you go to pikeville yet you couldnt even produce the starting offense and defense man get with the program and heres another tip its bad courtesy to let people know that u still go there let alon diss on players like sam morando who are as i have seen on the field better than you......

Posted Thu Jan 20, 2005 6:46 pm:

and yes i belive that Sam Morando could make a very Excellent WR Due to his lightining like speed and agilty mixed with an array of circus catches

Scammy
01-20-2005, 06:58 PM
I've watched Morando at practices and games and he makes some pretty wierd catches

liveMAROON

01-20-2005, 07:38 PM
Who cares about JV......On the varsity level I say they are Region 4 champs but they still can't compete with Beechwood and NCC.

liveMAROON
01-20-2005, 07:46 PM
we will have to wait for the rematch

Beef
01-20-2005, 09:31 PM
The rematch may come but like it has been said A LOT has to be done before Pikeville will compete with them....I think that this past years team was one of the best since 1999 but yet they got blown out of the water.....

liveMAROON
01-21-2005, 06:15 AM
i agree it was a lopsided game....but not because pikville is no good...they were playing like crap and you know it beef....hopefully they can bust it in the offseason and make beechawood think twice next season..........but were gonna have to wait

Posted Fri Jan 21, 2005 6:54 am:

haha marando, and priode will break the 1 yard mark lol. Me, a linemen, had moreyards than that kid this year
And I'm sure you heard that in gym class right?....hahahahha.....the fact of the matter is sam morando is good and has potential if he puts his mind to it. im not sure who this priedoe kid is though?........ive seen morando play...hes quick.....but tell me who this priode is....and please dont rail on anymore players. because you know you're no better

True, and well worded,

youknowwhoibe
01-21-2005, 11:29 PM
Scammy....... you watch Morando every practice and dont seem to miss a catch he makes...........

But the panthers look very talented this year and this is my breakdown of the starters for 05

Offense
QB- Chase Huffman
RB- Weston Robinson (Jacob Sword and Tim Honaker)
FB- Ryan Shurtleff or Ted Honaker
TE- ???
WR- Matt Sexton and Tim Champlin
OL- Ryan Maynard, Will Lockhart, Casey Rowe, Tyler Carter, Brad Bryant, and some others I might not remember all of em

Defense
DL- Ryan Maynard, Will Lockhart, Casey Rowe, Brad Bryant
LB- Ryan Shurtleff, Honakers, Tyler Carter, John Michael Mayo (most of you think of him as a safety but word is he might be moved to linebacker to deal those runningbacks some of those hard hits the recievers got)
CB- Weston Robinson and Matt Sexton (Jacob Sword)
FS- Tim Champlin (and who knows maybe Jacob Sword)

liveMAROON
01-22-2005, 02:27 PM
Great post Youknowwho but dont you think Jerry Holloway will be in the FB slot with the power and speed he has.......he just has to make the grades from what I hear

youknowwhoibe
01-22-2005, 04:06 PM
Actually, Your right Jerry Holloway could make a good FB. I cant predict who will be the starter at that position but whoever it is it will be a very skilled player. Pikeville is very deep in the running back and full back positions. Its looking good for the Panthers.

liveMAROON
01-22-2005, 08:07 PM
Most definitely it is, they will have the same dangerous running attack from last year but with the depth they have I'm sure it will make up for the loss of Robert Shurtleff

panthermania
01-23-2005, 12:47 AM
I've watched Morando at practices and games and he makes some pretty wierd catches

I'm sure you have whatched mirando in practices...in fact...i think you have the most closest up-front view of mirando in practices...lol.....

ComfortEagle
01-23-2005, 01:12 AM
Morando MIGHT, and I mean MIGHT, be good some day, if he ever gets some muscle and grows a few inches.

liveMAROON
01-23-2005, 08:52 AM
The factor you all are missing here is his SPEED......he runs an easy 4.5-4.7 and yes he needs to hit the wheights and hopefully a grownth spurt

ComfortEagle
01-23-2005, 04:24 PM
Speed is nothing when you cant stiff-arm somebody, or push-off a defender.

i think luke huffman will be good for a freshman quarterback, there is a linebacker that will be a freshman, not many people know him but he is a tough litlin

panthereuphoria
01-25-2005, 12:54 PM
i have a watched a couple of the junio high games and it doesnt look they have much power or size but let alone they are only in eith grade

panthermania
01-25-2005, 03:57 PM
Luke....I don't think luke will get a go at it....Too small, besides, after chase finishes out the year, the panthers already have JM Mayo to pick up the vacant slot....

liveMAROON
01-25-2005, 07:01 PM
True and John "J Money" Mayo is from what ive seen a pretty good Arm Jockey......Good quaterback if u ask me

01-25-2005, 09:07 PM
I kinda think that Pikeville's receivers will be a big factor in 2005. I look for the Panthers to air it out more. Chase Huffman gained a lot of experience and confidence last year and with him slinging it all over the field in his senior season, the wide outs will need to step up and make the big catches.

panthermania
01-26-2005, 11:12 PM
That is what i've been saying all winter...We need a special teams and people who can catch the ball in order for us to even think about going to state this year....

liveMAROON
01-26-2005, 11:14 PM
most definitely Spread and Mania...........WR are gonna play a big part in pikevilles season next year....we get them to step up then things are looking good, but if not then.....UhOh

Coach Mac
01-28-2005, 11:23 AM
IMO this team is based around two players
Weston Robinson
Chase Huffman
if this team wants to win at all next year they must use these two players as much as possible
they must ride on the back of these two players if they want to even think abotu another regional title
IMO

IMO..this team shouldn't worry about Weston or Chase or any wideouts if their lineman don't get in the weightroom. Unless the lineman work harder than they ever have and develop some strength it will be a battle for 2nd place in the DISTRICT.

Farva
01-30-2005, 04:33 PM
I completely agree spxdad, without good strong lineman blocking up front it doesn't really matter who you have in the backfield.

the only people that know who is in the weightroom r the people that r in it trust me the big boys r up there every day along wiht those two and if u dont think that they r workin hard your wrong they do there part just like chase and weston or any other skill player
oh yeah and pikeville never plays for second

And besides the whole linemen in the weightroom thing, there isnt one football team that can win with just 2 players. Huffman and Robinson are good, but football is played with 11 men on the field functioning as a unit. 2 guys dont make a team.

SuperMario
02-01-2005, 04:57 AM
Pikeville will be about the same they always have been. They have a winning tradition. The linemen i agree need to get alot stronger. But, chase and weston arent the only two weapons you have? What about Sexton? Give him some credit. He made plays happen. The Honaker twins will be good later in the their career. They could step up this year and become a part of a good tradition. But, i see pikeville winning thier district. But not due to the talent, because of how weak their district is.

Coach Mac
02-01-2005, 07:44 AM
WEAK dont make me laught
we have a very hard district
painstville a powerhouse and hazard returns everyone and south floyd is not bad

liveMAROON

Paintsville is the opposite of weak next year in every aspect they should win district with what they have returning its still the heart and tradition they lack that will keep that trophy in the shelves of Pikeville High

youknowwhoibe
02-01-2005, 07:05 PM
Paintsville......a powehouse??? Not really, but I agree with liveMAROON that they will be very good this year. Returning two one thousand yard rushers will help them significantly.

But with the exceptions of Pikeville and Paintsville, this district is relatively weak.

IMO i think sexton had an off year...and it seems he made more plays when Sword was QB. But he did have some good catches...but he needs to concentrate on the cornerback position. when it comes to those long hard games, we dont need to have huffman playing both sides of the ball like he did against williamsburg last year.

PantherBlitz42

Pikeville is in a WEaK district....don't make me laugh by thinking that the district you guys play in is strong .......It is everything BUT strong....To tell you the truth, the region next year will be pretty weak as well.....Somerset will STILL be down....Williamsburg thought about not even haveing a team next year....The only competition will be Lynn camp (possibly) and maybe Harlan( I don't exactly know if they lost anybody from last year)

Hazard returns?????what exactly is hazard returning from????They made no noise whatsoever last year....and paintsville....PLEASE.....paintsville is good.....but they are definately NOT a powerhouse...The only team that will be worth any hype next year is South Floyd...I think they will be #2 next year, next to pikeville of course.

Pikeville does have talent...They can do anything they put their minds to !!!

IMO, If Pikeville has a new coach next year they will be playing for 3rd place in the district...Paintsville will be the favorite(whether you want to admit it or not Paintsville played Pikeville very close til the 4th quarter when they had three turnovers that led to Pikeville scores), South Floyd is my pick at #2, with Pikeville fighting for their playoff lives.

(edited for language)...close untill the end of the 1st quarter, till pikeville realized they couldn't just coast through this game they'd have to put out a lil effort. Pikeville came along in the 2nd quarter and started to kill paintsville. Yeah Paintsville lost 1 senior...but pikeville is still returning a strong line, and Helluva QB, along with a great TB. Pikeville will be the favorite and if not should be!
