The 1A school you talk about would beat sv pretty badly... shelby vally has a decent record because they have beat the teams they are supposed to and lost to the teams who are just flat out better than them. Shelby Valley is a good team compared to some of the lesser talented teams in the area.. but against the areas elite, i just don't see them on that level yet... Not saying they aren't building up to that level.. But right now they arn't just there yet.. Give them a few years, and if they can keep a steady coach, I believe they may be able to compete with the elite..

Belfry should take this game handily. That said, the loss to Sheldon Clark was HUGE. I think Belfry's inability to run down the big play finally caught up to them against Sheldon Clark. I didn't see the game, but I feel confident saying that in the past 3 years Maynard or Jones limit the huge runs by SC to 20 yard gains.

Belfry is still the cream of the crop in district 8 IMO, but the gap has been closed by Hager and SC. Shelby Valley, PCC etc are simply games to be played.

As for Belfry, Coach Haywood faces a familiar task. He has to take a bunch of "good" players and try to play perfect to win the big game when the time comes. It may be asking too much considering a Soph. Qb.

Anything can happen on any given night, just not this Friday night. Belfry could easily beat SV by 70 points, just won't happen because Coach Haywood won't let it happen, to much class. I was at the game between SV and Phelps and I would have been ashamed to have been a fan of SV. This is a game and everyone wants to win, but you don't have to do any team like SV did Phelps, I don't care how good or how good you think you are.

Evidently there is some deep animonsity over the SV/Phelps game... BUT... this thread isn't about those 2 teams... it's about SV and Belfry... I could comment quite a bit but I will keep it on topic...

Belfry isn't what they have had in years before BUT.... they are definatly a great football team. Belfry is known for it's football program and therefore will continue to build on tradition.... Belfry WILL win because they have worked hard (not taking away from Valley what so ever) and they know what Haywood expects of them. He has the respect of EVERY player on that field...... good luck to both teams but I gotta say......

Tottaly agree! I mean I may favor Valley in some games. Like the SC and the P-burg game and I did predict them to win. And I think they had a chance to win those but they quit. Once a team scores they do quit. I noticed it the last couple of weeks. Valley's down now. With John possibly out(shoulder), Tyler Johnson(Leg) being out for the year, Brock Kinney(leg) hurt, Tyler Cable having knee surgery here soon(out for year). Thats some major players from the Valley. Probly the ones you would here mostly about. Do I think they woulda beat belfry with them? No we have no depth. But do I think it woulda been a better game yes. that single A team all those valley people talk about was trailing arguably the #1 team in class 4A by only 14 points in the third quarter..Pikeville would destroy Valley. And all those Valley people go to bed thanking God they dont have to play them. Because getting drubbed by 50 to Belfry every year is bad enough for them.The Single A school that almost beat us would beat every AA school in our area except for maybe Sheldon Clark and us. And they could very well beat Sheldon Clark and us too. If you forget Shelby Valley did get beat by a single a school from West Virginia..and trust me..Matewan is nowhere near Newport Central Catholic's level.

Belfry could beat Valley like Valley beat Phelps IF COACH HAYWOOD DIDNT PULL HIS STARTERS IN THE SECOND QUARTER UP 58-0..The Valley players I have talked to wants Belfry to BRING IT! They want to prove they are a program that isnt a joke anymore and the way to do that would be to play with and maybe even upset the top dawg in football in this area. It was said that Belfry can beat Valley like Valley beat Phelps. Valley players wont allow that to happen. No way! Valley is to good of a team for that to EVER happen.

I personally think that this is what we will see:
- Belfry will score around 28 points in the first half, running a very conservative offense.
-Belfry will completely shut down the Valley offense in the first half.
- During most of the third quarter look for Belfry to score another couple TD's while working on their passing game.
-At 42-0 or the start of the 4th quarter, whichever comes first, expect Belfry to sub very, very heavy

Don't expect Belfry to put over 42 up,,, and don't expect Valley to score on the Pirate's first string defense.

Belfry will play conservative, not wanting to show too much, and Haywood will reduce the chance of injury as much as possible.

Belfry is, always will be 30 points better than Valley...Dont matter what kind of team they put on the field, for either team...I remember in '99, Valley was 9-0, Belfry was 6-3, or something like that and still pounded the snot out of Valley 28-6, ...and it will ALWAYS be that way, because while Belfry plays one of the toughest non-district schedules in 2A, Valley is beating up on Phelps, and running their records up...Belfry will win this by whatever in the **** they want the score to be.
