Do you think Belfry can compete with Pikeville?
Do they have any new boys out who didn't play last year or have the ones they had gotten better. The year between 7th and 8th grade year is always interesting to see how much boys have improved.
I don't really see Belfry being up there with Pikeville, but they might be above the 2nd tier teams such as Millard, Virgie, and Dorton.

NO!
All you listed will be better than them, as I have seen them practice.
No Struthers and no Wilkerson = 12-18 losses like last year and Bobby getting technicals, tossed, him cussing alot, and embarrassing the Belfry name and class that Coach Haywood and Coach Casey teach.
No real standout players that I can tell but you can't tell by the way they practice because they do very little scrimmaging. They work on drills that will not help them in games.
Is Pikeville better than last year? I was told they were but have not seen them yet. I was told they are a lock for the county title though. Coach Garris deserves it.

You make this judgement because you have seen them practice or because you have a problem with the coach.
I won't make bold statements and say that our boys will win every game that they play in, but they should be competitive. This group of boys have worked hard this summer and the results of this have already paid off with a football county championship.
You are probably right with the statement of "no one really standing out". No one really stood out on the football team either, but they played good team ball and success followed.

You are correct in that we had a good coaches in football. As for the basketball coaches, I think that they do a fine job as well. This season is just getting started and it is way too early to tell. Last year was last year.
It is beyond apparent that you have a problem with Bobby, but you should remember that these athletes sometimes read these posts and might take them personally.

This has nothing to do with the kids at all.
I think they are great kids from what I have seen and I know some of the parents well. Some of the kids will be great football players and might turn into good basketball players once they get away from him but right now I don't think he can make them into basketball players. I think Lequire or May would be a better choice.
It takes great kids and parents to put up with Bobby and his arrogance so for that I tip my hat to you.
Now my problem with Bobby is this -
1. He is arrogant and cocky
2. He surrounds himself with arrogant and cocky Asst.'s
3. He knows nothing about basketball
4. He is untouchable- meaning he is protected by Mr. Hurley and Bobby Sr. and was protected by Mr. Welch and Mr. Dotson - thats changing now though
5. If it wasn't for his dad no one would have anything to do with him and he wouldn't be coaching.
6. He acts like every game is a championship game - why be so intense over basketball
I was hoping his dad would get beat so my son could attend BMS when he is ready to but sadly Mr. Hurley and Bobby Sr. brainwashed people into voting for him.

I would love to "talk" to him about what I think about him but you either have to
A) - go through his mom, dad, brother, and buddies
B) - go to a bar
And he is pretty cowardly because the way he treats kids, a man wouldn't do that.

Have you watched him or ever listened to him during a ballgame? The way he talks to officials is embarassing and I know he says a few 4-letter words around the kids.
ITS MIDDLE SCHOOL BASKETBALL.
Everyone should get to play at some point and every game is not for the NBA title.
They play Johnson Central tonight go see how mant T's he gets and how his language is and how bad they lose. From what one of the parents told me I wouldn't be surprised if a player or 2 gets kicked out because of what he teaches.
He teaches them to be too physical, to dive after lose balls on top of other kids. Watch them practice, it looks like a wrestling match.
They knock peoples heads off to get the basketball.......basketball is non-contact WAKE-UP

This team has been practicing with the high school and I am not sure where you are getting your information from, but my son has been playing basketball for several years and if you really think that basketball is a non-contact sport, then you haven't been around it much.
You do teach players to dive for loose balls. You do teach them to be aggressive for rebounds, etc. This isn't pee-wee.
As for us playing Johnson Central tonight, please do come. Then you can judge something other than a practice.

VERY NICE POST!
Blackflag, where in the heck do you get your info??? You OBVIOUSLY have not been to a game THIS year  !! As posted earlier, last year was last year, they did fine last year and so did 7th grade. And Bobby has been just fine throughout our 4 VERY CLOSE scrimmages this year which were also very physical! What should they do? Stand by while the other team dives for the ball and just give it to them. Our boys did GREAT against Adams Middle, Inez and Warfield and so did Bobby THIS YEAR. As far as last year goes and your statement about no Struthers no Wilkerson is a joke! 2 kids dont make a team...Im not going to dish ANYBODY especially a child and those boys had a lot of talent, they really did, but with that came a lot of issues and drama!! The parents with open minds could see that when those 2 were out for whatever reason, the boys played much better as a TEAM. Also you saying no stand out talent..YES that was talking about the kids but as posted earlier TEAM BALL WINS GAMES not "1" standout that daddy thinks is the best to ever walk. I will be at JC tonight as I have been to all of the scrimmages. Sounds like a personal problem to me. The only thing that you posted that I can agree with is that Keith or LeQuire would do a fine job too, but theres nothing wrong with Bobby either.
And for the record Im not brainwashed
Im sure I have plenty more of your post to address but I have a game to get ready for.
LETS GO BMS Dont read this garbage!! You are a fine bunch of boys!

I have to spit out a comment here-these kids are in middle school now right? You bet they should be physical. They should know how to go after the ball and pull down a rebound. and NO, not everybody should get to play at some point. Its not youth league anymore, these are young men who have to learn to earn a position and take it when they don't.

I can understand parents having trouble with a coach in a personal area, but when you bring other "children" into the problems this makes for a mess. Not only is it childish to speak of children in this manner, how would you like it if someone talked of your child in this manner?
Secondly, this does nothing to promote team cohesiveness. It only works to break down the spirit of those "kids" who are playing for the love of the game, not to impress those parents in the stands. That is the problem, parents should butt out and let the kids play under the supervision of the coach. Why can't parents just let their children play and do as the coach says. We wonder why the kids are so confused and have this "its all about me attitude," it stems from the parents and trying to please mommy and daddy in the bleachers.
Many parents need to stop trying to re live their lives, sports lives, through their kids and let them enjoy the sport. That is what we are talking about right? It seems somewhere in the middle of all this name bashing we have forgotten what the goal is here. Promoting responsibility, discipline, respect, and effort.
What kind of actions can we expect to see from our children when they read this garbage on the computer and think if mom and dad says it, then it is ok.

Thank you. If these same group of young athletes present to the high school level without these basic skills who do you think will get the blame? That is right, the coach they had before. These kids should be physical but respectful, they should be ready for contact and learn how to play under control that is what it is all about.

Johnson County defeated Belfry by 3. JCMS is struggling to find cohesion just like they did last year in 7th grade. With a tremendous coach like Fairchild I'm sure they will get things going and have a great year. Now I am not trying to say anything bad to blackflag or anyone else because I don't know this coach at all. However, tonight both he and his team were very classy. I do remember him getting thrown out last year at JCMS so hopefully he has changed for the better.

If Im not mistaken BMS 7th graders won the game last year at Central and got beat when Central came to Belfry. Same good close game this year!

Yeah, I heard they looked real good.
One parent told me he was not letting his kid play for Bobby anymore because they were just thrown out there last night and got embarrassed.
The 6th graders playing 7th don't need to, not because they are not good enough but because they could get hurt.
A good coach would at least have the kids in the right spots.

Your post are getting boring. Not too hard to figure out that you are simply coach bashing.
I am not on here suporting Bobby because he "lets" my son play. Playing time is earned at least that is what I have tried to teach my children. I don't have a problem with any of the coaches at BMS and I think that they all do a wonderful job. I don't think that our coaches did a good job last night simply because he didn't get thrown out of the game--I think that he did a good job simply because he did. I ,as a parent and as a fan, was proud of all the boys last night as I am everytime they put on a BELFRY uniform.
Again, please come watch them play yourself then you can post from a first hand account of the game and actions at the game otherwise your posts mean nothing to me.

Why don't we start to remain on topic, and quit this bickering back and forth among each other about are own problems. Send private messages to one another if you want to debate something off topic, don't do it on the threads so we all have to read it just to find out what you're talking about.

I dont think you understand. This Blackflag is the problem. He is jumping from thread to thread bashing this coach and he obviously has a personal problem with him. He does not know his facts and it sounds like someones kid isn't getting to start or something. All of these threads need to stay on topic and Blackflag needs to post like he is soposed to. It seems like the only reason he's on here is to hide behind a monitor and talk about someone. If he has a problem he needs to take it up with coach and leave BGR out of it. These parents, kids and fans are just defending their own because of him.

My child is one of the 6th playing for the 7th grade. Why shouldn't he play if he has the talent? The only reason my son isn't in the 7th grade is he missed the cut-off day for starting school by 26 days. He's as old as some of the 7th graders. And he could get hurt playing for the 6th grade, that is a chance we take anytime we let our kids play sports.

For some odd reason, no one hasnt mentioned Warfield Middle School! They have beaten Belfry twice, brought down undefeated Lenore Middle School, Beaten Louisa Middle School twice, and have only been beaten by JC, the panaroma, they had 3 starters out. the last game against JC, 2 of their starters were taken to the hospital, because of injuries sustained from JC players. i would like to see JC and Warfield play in a fair game, no elbows, and a fair referee.

I totally agree with you proudmomma. But, I don't think that you can play a fair game with JC. Apparently their coaches teach them to be out for blood. I think alot of their players are upset with Warfield's boys because of the football season but they need to realize that this is basketball not football. The referees need to start calling technical fouls against them and then maybe their coaches will learn their lesson too. I can't wait until the conference tournament.

You'll get a better called game at JC than anywhere in Martin County.
Warfieds best player is a Lafferty and the ref that calls their games.....well he is a Lafferty too and his uncle or cousin I believe.

You don't have to justify why these boys held back. No matter the reason, they are held back just the same. It is legal, so you shouldn't have to defend it.
It makes a huge difference in middle school ball, but it is not illegal.

I don't really see Belfry being up there with Pikeville, but they might be above the 2nd tier teams such as Millard, Virgie, and Dorton.

They are 7-1 if you don't count the games in the Dorton Pre Season Tourney. A couple of the boys only had around a weeks practice due to football. They are starting to look a lot better though. From what I have seen saw far. Pikeville, JC and Paintsville are three of the top teams in the area so far. With each being able to beat the other on any given night. Because I would put 2 teams in my area up against any in the state! Lincoln County (Stanford) Middle School Eagles dominate every team they play (beat Lex Cath twice by a bunch) and have only lost to (but also beat) Meece Middle School from Somerset, who also dominate! I believe the players from Meece won the 6th grade state tourney last year, which Lincoln didn't play in.
Lincoln has what I would call "twin towers" and an awesome guard. Luke Hill (Center) is a true 7th grader who is 6'1" and around 175. This kid has moves that 7th graders just don't have. I believe he has double-doubled in every game he has played this year except for the Meece game, where they shut him down. He is definitely one to watch, and they also have Chris Luster, another big man with great hands. Their guard is Carl Lewis Cummins, an excellent ball handler, who is quicker than anyone I have seen. These are all true 7th graders and it looks as though Lincoln basketball has an extremely bright future.
Meece Middle School is also an excellent team. They have a very small guard (Gover) who can shoot the lights out. He rarely misses and can carry the team himself. I believe he is supposed to be an 8th grader though. They have a few bigger boys who play well inside, and a good coach. I watched them in the King Middle School Holiday Tourney and they do have weaknesses, but if their shooting is hot they can't be beat. Lincoln beat them by 5 in the first game, but they played again in the championship and dominated, beating Lincoln by more than 20.
I guess we will see come state tourney time!

South Laurel is in our area, but not in our conference, so I guess that is why we don't play them. However, I'm pretty sure we played the same kids (as an AAU team) last year and beat them in some AAU tourney. They were good as 6th graders, although some of them looked like 8th graders, so I'm sure they are good again. I hope we can maybe play them in the state tourney!
