The Belfry Pirates take on the Jackets of Middlesboro next week at CAM for the Region 4 title. Middlesboro is 11-1 on the season and Belfry is 10-2 on the season, should be a great game, nothing against the Belfry fans, but i'll have to go with M-boro on the win 28-24! Though I hope Belfry wins this game and has a re-match with Russell in the semi's!

Yes Belfry is used to playing for the region title year in year out, but Middlesboro hasn't competed for one in a few years I think, so im betting they're pretty hungry for one right about now and intend to take from the Pirates! Though I hope they don't, anything could happen! Hopefully I'll be able to attend this game

Belfry has eliminated Middlesboro the past 3 years by an average score somewhere around 36-10.

The Pirates have put up over 40 points against Middlesboro the past two seasons and this year's Jackets defense appears vulnerable as well.

That being said, M-boro is LOADED with athleticism at the skill positions and will pose numerous matchup problems. The ,argin of error against this opportunistic Mboro team is slim to none. Simply put, if the Belfry from the first quarter last night shows up to play then i expect Middlesboro to win by 3 TD.... if Belfry can execute and limit turnovers the Pirates should be able to take this one themselves by a couple scores.

Middlesboro was ranked higher than Belfry at season's end, have a better record, and are yet to lose to a KY team. That being said the Jackets should be favored in this one.

I've never really seen Middlesboro play, but I have watched clipings from Sports overtime. They look really good. buuut I think that belfry's D will pull together (again) and stop them. Sorry, I just don't see a win Comming for the yellow jackets.

Belfry know's that this game won't be an easy one, but they will be ready.

Belfry! Playoffs run through all even number districs and regions this year! So every game till state will be played at the respective even numbered district region teams home field, since Belfry is in District 8 Region 4 they host the region and semi final games

Belfry's D will be ready for Middlesboro as well as the Offense. My opinion is Belfry by 2 TD's, Middlesboro can't take being hit up under the chin all night long, they will fold to the Pirates in the second half

Unless they hanve changed since the 2003 season in which they beat us out of the playoffs there awful. We dressed in what appeared to be a grade sc hool gym. Had to get back on the bus and drive to the field. We went to some locker room at the half which was awful. I do rember that there was some little yellow car that kept driving around the field that was made to look like a bee. And I do rember hearing some wrestling theme songs during warmups.

Middlesboro dosnt have that great of a defense but Belfry won't get many break-a-way runs because of the yellow jackets team speed. But IMO Belfry's defense will eventually stop Hoskins, Ford, and there other really good player. So I'll say Belfry will win.

I heard that Middlesboro was a passing team this year..can anyone confirm their strengths and weaknesses please.

I know that in 2003 they were suppose to be a passing team, but Belfry shut that down pretty quickly if I recall at Middlesboro.

I will of course pick my Pirates to win this one, but I think it will be close..it usually is once to start getting close to the carpet.

It's early in the week . I see this being a great matchup. Middlesboro wants this game to be a shootout. The Pirates are going to have to protect the football. that's been there problem for the last few years. I don't think that the Yellowjackets defense can slow down belfry's rushing game. Belfry's defense more than likely won't stop Middlesboro's high octane offense. Need to force some turnovers and eliminate the big play. I don't know if the jackets have a field goal kicker. glen earnest could decide the outcome in thisgame. belfry's hard to beat at home 13 consecutive home playoff victories. should be a great game by two outstanding programs

It really amuses me to see this. If that be the case why doesn't everyone else in AA just give them the rings and start practicing for next year. Seeing that none of the battle tested teams have any chance at all. No need to take a chance getting any of the players injured for next year by playing in a meaningless game.

I know Mercer is extremely talented this year. I'm asking an honest question here. What did they get from Harrodsburg this year that is an improvement from last year's team?

I do know that Mercer came into their game at Russell last year at 10-1. Russell outgained them 364-222 on the ground and 436-306 total. They also outscored them 41-26. That was also with allowing 135 rushing to Griffith and 97 rushing to Walker. Mercer was REALLY good last year.

Not comparing years, but I am actually just trying to find out what areas they have improved on this season with the merger.

Tons of speed is what Mercer Co. got from Harrodsburg, and it looks to be paying big dividends.

Tons of speed is what Mercer Co. got from Harrodsburg, and it looks to be paying big dividends.

Can you give us some details? Like who they got and what position they play and what they brought to the team.

Sponge Bob
11-13-2006, 01:57 PM
Can you be more specific? What areas improved in speed? What players?

Midee1
11-13-2006, 02:01 PM
It is my understanding that they still have Griffith and Walker. The new speed is supposed to be Jackson and Ford. O-line and D-line are not as big, but are more athletic.

It is also my understanding that the O and D lines are not as big as last years but a bit smaller and more athletic. Looks like they are only giving up about 80 yards rushing per game.

BoondockSaint
11-13-2006, 03:30 PM
I think Midee1 summed it up pretty well. Jackson & Ford are both from Harrodsburg & they team up with the Walker kid who played at Mercer Co. last year.

They can have a change of pace D-Line, so to speak. They can go big, or they can go with some more athletic D-Lineman and still be just as physical.

Basically, they went from a good football team to a great football team with the addition of some skill guys who give them a big "up" in team speed. Plus, they got some much needed depth.

They have really no more kids than a power house football program like Belfry or Russell dressed for football. 69 including the 3 freshman. Russell has 64 10-12.So the issue really isn't how many more people they dress than the other top 2a teams.

Another thing a school could have 1'000 boys and only have 40 or 50 on the team.If they are having alot of losing seasons so as long as teams are winning they will draw boys in.Alot of it has to do with how well the jfls are run also.

Belfry has great coaches... They always prepare well, and analyize every part of Middlesboros' game.. Thier scouting reports are always in-depth.. If Belfry loses this game, it will be because Middlesboro is the better team.. thats the only way. Belfry has destroyed Middlesboro in the last 3 meetings, also this is at CAM.. Home field does wonders... It doesn't matter who stands in Belfrys way down the line.. to get from point a to point b (state championship) this is the road you have to take.. there are no shortcuts

Well guys, the games a day away...
any changes of heart?.. and other thoughts?...

I think Middlesboro is going to have trouble with Belfry's run.........
I never liked the scheme Coach Roark goes with everyone close up on the line, one missed tackle and then "another pirate touchdown"...
The jackets will have 9 in the box.. The corners play man, and saftey locks on TE, but walks up infront of LB's... IMHO, you can't expect to stop Belfry's big plays like this...
I see Belfry putting up alot of points on the board..
They key to a pirate victory lies with how well the defense stops the highly talented, and atheltic Middlesboro offense.. If they can do that.. I look for a long night for the Jackets, on top of the 3 hours trip...

Just a little update........ My sources tell me that M'boro left around 10:30 this morning heading to CAM Stadium. Cam is already getting pumped up! Lots of decorating, sheets being hung, cups in the fence, tickets being bought, cars going by honking their horns!!! It is the playoffs!!!
