If a player is playing in a game , do you think it is alright for his dad to ref the game?

ABSOLUTELY NOT!!! (IMO) I know some people will say that referee's are to always be impartial BUT... when it's as plain as the shoes on your feet about certain calls, you know that is not happening! I personally would never, never, never, EVER call a game my child played in!!!!

Absolutely not. Refs are under too much scrutiny as it is, why add to it.

NO WAY!!!!!Even if his dad did call the game right...if the boy won... ppl would still say it was because of his dad cheating!

I thought it would make it very hard on a ref, even if he was trying to be honest. He would either call it to close on his son's team or give them to much freedom. I wonder if there is any rule on that. I know a case like that.

I dont think a parent should ref a game their kids are playing in. I was at a game that happened once. To my surprise, she did a very good job as a ref. She missed some calls on both ends, but overall she did a better job than the other ref did.

A refiree should not be allowed to official his kids game, not only because it would be seen as cheating, but the dad may think he helped the team win, not his kid. The schools should not allow refirees to officiate their own kids neways. This is usually not a big problem in the varsity level, but common in jv

I don't think it should happen. It could go one of two ways: Ref could either be easier on the team at which their son plays or could make it too hard on them trying to show impartiality.

NO WAY !!!! thats crazy a ref maybe callin it fare but if his or her son is on the team that wins they will say they cheated no matter what ppl do that

Maybe stupid, but it happens. I think there should be a rule against it. No way can it be fair. Some refs might try to be honest but there is just to much emotion envolved.

In elementary athletics in our county, we have a referee who has a son that plays. He never calls a game that his son plays. Should he be allowed to call any games in our county?

In Varsity play, not sure why a Ref would want to do a game, with his son. I've seen games in Middle School or Elementary, where family did games but not after that.

There is no way anyone could be completely fair if your own kid is playing and you yourself are one of the refs, it's just purely natural that we all would lean more toward our kids team to be right on the calls......absoultely not.

Could his officiating affect the seating for the end of the year tournament and in turn benefit his son's team. Possibly?

I personally know a family who was in this situation. The son played varsity basketball and the father is a high school ref. He was NOT ALLOWED to officiate ANY of his sons games, not sure why this is a thread in the boys basketball forum, your not allowed to do it on the high school level.

Should he be allowed to ref for either team? I don't think so!

I think it is a good thread to discuss. The only reason I say that is I know a family that has a son that plays football and a dad that referees. I have witnessed his father ref several games that his son's team played in. Don't know if that rule is in basketball only. Maybe someone can answer that as well.

Now there is a good question. There is one school in your county that will not allow him to call a game.

A good example of why parents shouldn't officiate their children's games is AAU. How many times have we seen that and the results are usually not good.
