My wife and I will be celebrating our 15th wedding anniversary in the middle of June. I would like suggestions for interesting places to spend a weekend. We have done the Smoky Mountains, Myrtle Beach etc several times a year. I am looking for something different with attractions and historical value. We enjoyed Mammoth Caves, honeymooned at Carter Caves, so things that have to do with the outdoors interest us. We really wanted to do Carter Caves again since we honeymooned there but they are booked 2 years in advance so I missed the boat on that one. Plus it must be pet friendly so we can take Baby Girl with us.

I am open for suggestions that are within 8-10 hours of the Ashland area. Hopefully there are some places out there that people can suggest that we would not think of.

WEll have you ever camped at Yatesville Lake. It pretty darn good itself, and if you like to plays golf you would be about 30 secs from the course.

Forget a weekend...take a week or so off work both of you and hop on a plane to like the Bahamas or Hawaii...

However, Boston was great when I went last March. It shouldn't be that long of a drive and it's VERY historyical.

Tunica MS, 29 min south of Memphis, you can do Beal street, sun records, and graceland then return to Tunica at night for shows, concerts, and some very nice Casinos.
Gold strike Casino is really nice, posh but affordable, buffett is a blast and the Cheesecake out of the world. 9 casinos to choose from in about a 4 to 6 mile area.

New Orleans, French quarter and the Historic Dist, both really untouched by Katrina, secure and safe. Weekends are unreal History every where you look and every step you take. Ghost tours are fantastic, take a hurricane tour as well. Food out of this world. Takes me around 11 hours to get there but worth every min. Dont know how many hotels are pet friendly, but there are some. The city is like nowhere else in the US.

You could also try Gettysburg Penn.
History all around you.

If you go the one thing you have to do is visit and eat at Patti's.
Voted #1 by Southern Living Magazine's Reader's Choice Award for Best Small Town Restaurant in Southeast United States

They are known for 2 inch pork chops, the prime rib is great, flower pot bread, and I kid you not their pies are 6 inchs tall with meragine and deserts are well huge, they have one called a boatsinker

This place has to be seen to be believed. you can spend your time playing putt putt golf, petting zoo, walking trail, old settlement shops.

I forgot about Point Clear Alabama and Gulf shores both really nice spots, and Pensacola but I hated it, hot, jellyfish, red tide and sharks. But a great free concert city on the weekend, well before the hurricanes. havent been there since 99.
12 hour drive.

Nashville is great... you could check to see if there are any tickets for the Opry while you're there...
Or you could go to Tennessee or West Vigrinia to ski

I would just take docs list and narrow it down to the places that sell beer and let my wife pic. Because if they sell beer, its not really going to matter where you go. haha

But Destin is a really nice place and there is a lot of stuff to see and do. I went there for Spring Break last year, you would enjoy it. (FYI They DO sell alcohol, trust me)

I take my wife to the Marriot in downtown Charleston and get a honeymoon suite with whirlpool bath and all.You can walk to the Charleston Mall from the Marriot without ever walking outside. They have an overpass dome that connects the two.Nice lodging, very swanky, and access to shopping which is what women love and the rooms are very romantic.

Try the Grove Park Inn in Ashville, NC. http://www.groveparkinn.com/ It is expensive but I'm sure she will love it. That place is unreal. It is close to the Biltmore Estate which is also an idea.

Guys and gals. Thanks for the responses. Sorry about not posting replies my Internet went down about 30 minutes after this thread was posted. I will read through all of them this evening and see what I can come up with. Several very good ideas in there. I will keep every one up to date with what we decide to do.
