Many people have said that on some freshman teams, sophmores are gettin 2 play. I know for a fact Betsy Lane does it, because when pburg played them(I was there) they played 4 sophmores, and I know one of them real well, and I know there truly not supposed 2 play on the freshman team.
What do you all think???

It shouldnt be allowed. The teams doing it should have something done to them. I have seen this happen before as well.

I know of an incident in the 16th region in where sophomored have played, just because there are not enough freshman to field a 5 man team. I dont really think it is a great deal, but its not fair to the freshman if sophmores are playing on their team.

i think the only time a soph. should play freshman team if it is his first year.

What if you only have 4 or 5 freshmen, then if both coaches agree it should be ok.
But as far as tournements then only freshmen and below should be playing.

I agree! If you have an inexperienced soph or too few freshmen, then what's the big deal. Anyway, freshmen basketball doesn't really mean anything anyway, it is more a prep for varsity. If any freshmen have to go up against a school that is cheating with good sophs, then it will only make the freshmen better later on. I know some freshmen that could beat the juniors and seniors too. So it isn't that big a deal, depending on the circumstances.

I don't think you should even mention P-Burg in that context. Lat year in a "Freshman" football game they not only played sophomore but Juniors as well. They played them against some 7th, 8th and Freshmen. We were assured from their coach before the game that nothing but Freshmen were playing for them. Some of our players parents knew the kids that were sophomores and juniors. You would figure that a school that is already on probation would abide by the rules.

Well some freshman teams dont have enough. For instant Lawrence co was playing a freshman game and only had six players and one was an 8th grader just brought up. Then a lawrence Co player broke his ankle and then one fouled out and finshed the game with only 4 players and still won. So yea whats wrong with letting soph a chance to play if there not getting any play time on the jv or varsity team,.

I kno its not really that big of a deal, but if its a freshman team, then nothin but freshman should play, I can see lettin 7th and 8th graders play, but sophmores, they need to play jv ball.

Don't really see the big deal. Is a great chance to let 1st year players in a game like atmosphere!

i know this should be in the football thread, but if Pburg played sophs and juniors during a freshman game is not nearly as bad as playing 7th and 8th graders in a freshman football game....that my friend is definately illegal!

Sophmore's should not be allowed to play FRESHMEN ball. If a team does not have enough to play then they should bring 7th and 8th graders up. If not cancel the FRESHMAN game and have a JV game. That is only far. Belfry only has 3 Freshmen and the rest 8th graders. They never bring a sophmore down to play. It would not be right. That would be the same as letting a Grad. play highschool ball, or NBA player coming back to play college ball. As a sophmore you have moved on and already had your Freshmen year.

i think that sophmores should only be allowed to play in freshmen games if there isnt enough freshmen to play because its not right to play sophmores in a freshmen game i mean winning is great but not when you have to cheat for it.

I hafta disagree with ya.....a Soph is a soph......should play JV, if you don't have enough freshmen and don't wan't to use Middle Schoolers, then don't schedule Freshmen games.... just play a JV schedule!!! Tuff luck, but that's how it's done in the schools that know what they are doing.

Cheating is cheating. It shouldn't matter if it's Varsity, JV or Freshmen. Sounds to me like the Coach, AD and Principal need to take a course in ethics.

A freshman team should be made up of freshmen. The only exceptions would be 7th or 8th graders that are good enough to play up at that level.

Actually they are permitted to play if it is just Freshmen they are playing against. Which we were assured that they were playing only frehmen by their coach.

This should be in another thread. 7th and 8th graders can play with freshmen and nobody older. It is legal.

I doubt that SV could care less if their Freshman team plays against sophs or not. They usually win anyway. lol But who really cares who's Freshman team beats who's Freshman team. Only the varsity really matters anyway. Freshman and JV games are just for prep purposes or to let the other kids play.
