Pre-season thread on if David would win a game. I seriously think they should consider pulling themselves out khsaa competition until they see they can at least compete a little bit.

It seemed to be a toss up to most, but to see how your prediction turned out on this game went click the link above.

I agree alfus. Most people think that they should be allowed to for whatever the reason and no offense to them but it is like sticking a Little League team into play into a region that has some pretty good players. I know that they all have heart and never quit but it has to be embarassing. They will loose or not even gain players that CAN play some basketball because they know what the David School looks like in the eyes of everyone else. Build up a program and a good name and start a tradition. More boys will be willing to go out for the team and in turn a good team will start to form. Find a coach that will be able to give them some direction and not worry so much about publicity and they will be on the road to making a foundation. They have to start somewhere but throwing themselves into competition the first few years that they even have a team isn't such a great idea.

And the intentions of scheduling the KSD to get a win blows up in there face! BIG CONGRATS KSD on the win!

I dont really think they scheduled them to get a win. KSD has had some pretty good teams in the past. I think if David gets a coach that knows a thing or two about basketball, then they might be winning a game or two a year. Not wanting to put down Ned over the whole Rebel Flag scene, but he really doesnt try to coach them. I wonder what his practices are like. I think with their school size, they wont ever compete for a regional or district title, but they should be able to play with the lower teams in the region.

i have been to one of david's practices and all he does is scrimmage an shoot 3's and free throws for 2 hours

I think people should realize what kind of school this is. David is a last chance for these kids as that have not made it in the Floyd Co. school system including the alternative school for what ever reason. So no David is never going to attract people to come to school there. These kids are there because all else has failed yet they still what to accomplish something with their life and don't give up on themselves. Thats may be why they never quit in games. I think the team was started to give these kids something to bond together, make a commitment to, and put hard work toward a goal. Although I think they should have a better coach, maybe someone that wants to teach those things. I don't think they should compete in the 15th region as far as district play but certainly should schedule some area schools as well as play in the Rivers division or maybe look at scheduling some of the schools in the Christian school league or do what the did the 1st year play JV squads. I think having a team is good for these kids but maybe should lower the level of competetion.

Nice Post. I agree that the students at The David School deserve to have their team. Team sports build character and confidence, as well as teach them to work together towards a common goal. It's unfortunate (for the players) that they have struggled so hard to get their first win. I've watched these boys play and they give it everything they have. In the games I've watched (the players) have been very respectful to their opponent and the officials. Playing the non-KHSAA schools could be a good thing for them.

Good Luck to the players at The David School- keep your heads up guys- your day will come.

Congrats KSD. David went 0-28 last season and are 0-25 right now, that is a 53 game losing streak over a span of 2 seasons and will more than likely be 54 after they play Shelby Valley in the district. Hate to see this for the players to lose like this over a long period of time, maybe they can get some coaching in that program someday.

Oh I would be all for David if they would get rid of there coach! If I lost that many games in a row, they wouldn't have to fire me...I would step down or resign myself just for the respect that I have for myself! But with him coaching still, says all I need to know..doing it for the payday!

From what I understand, he doesn't get paid a dime, but he puts all the money toward the team, buys the shoes, and the uniforms. Not really doing it for the payday but more for the publicity. If he wanted to truly help them, he'd do that and find a coach that would guide them the right way. Then he should just travel with them and root for them. From what I've seen and heard, he has zero knowledge of the game.

The 59th district voted (including Ned P.) to make David the #4 seed every year starting next season. This means that SV, ER, and Pikeville will not play David in the regular season. David can now play a more competitive schedule with those 6 open dates and the other teams can schedule more beneficial games as well.

In all honesty does it matter? Any of the 3 could beat them by 80 every year no matter how down they are. Just a sad situation and really feel like the school doesn't put no interest into the situation that is going on at David!

why dont they just cancel david's program??? I dont understand why they would keep it going, David had a chance to get 1 WIN and they blew it. My predictions were right.

Because David has kids with enough heart to go out there time after time knowing that they don't stand a chance against 99% of the teams that they play and get in front of a crowd and try their best and play for the love of the game. Everyone deserves the oppurtunity to play for their school, to play because they want to, and to have fun. They shouldn't cancel David's program, they should put them in competition with schools that they can compete with, it's that simple. Not many players would be willing to do what the David boys do everytime they put on that uniform. Most people were right with these predictions but that doesn't mean that David's program should be stopped completely.

how exactly is the game played to allow the deaf to play?

the whistles and the horn and such.

I have not seen them play basketball but in football they use a drum on the sideline.
