CHILTON, Wis. — Two criminal investigators testifying in the murder trial of a once-exonerated man denied planting evidence at a salvage yard as part of a ploy to frame the defendant.
The officers rejected the claims of defense lawyers that they used a vial of Steven Avery's blood to taint the scene where prosecutors say he murdered and mutilated the remains of Teresa Halbach. They also denied planting the victim's car key in the defendant's bedroom.
Sgt. Andrew Colborn and Lt. James Lenk of the Manitowoc County Sheriff's Department testified Wednesday in the murder trial of 44-year-old Avery, who is accused of luring the 25-year-old photographer to his family's property on Halloween 2005 and killing her.
Prosecutors say he burned her body and hid the evidence in barrels around the 40-acre property.
He faces life in prison if convicte
