Where's MacKenzie heading? Matt Fyffe of Johnson Central signed to play at EKU. I'm pretty confident Justin Blanton also of JC will follow suite to play college baseball somewhere.

That's great, if I'm not mistaken former Paintsville Tiger and the Rowan Co. Vikings catcher Logan Barker is attending Asbury. Both are great players and kids, I wish them the best of luck as well as all other mountain players who are moving on to play at the next level.

I heard that Subby was offered a full ride to Pikeville in baseball, and was highly considering going there. I'd heard ALC before today and I know that's true but I don't know if they hearsay about Pikeville is correct.

I'd like to see one go one place and one go to the other. LOL. Just for recognition purposes. I don't think you'll hear a decision from either until early next week.

Good luck to Kyle where ever he decides to go, and best wishes. Kyle would fit in real well as ALC and it is good to also see Coach Ashby do whatever it takes to keep the local kids local. What ever he decides he will get to further his baseball career.

Full rides in small college baseball dont happen. I will say it is possible that they worked out an athletic/academic package that equaled a full ride, but the money would not solely be athletic. Baseball gets the shaft unfortunately.

Athletes don't receive full rides in any college sport anymore. That is unless they're just an all-world athlete or something. Everyone I've ever known of going on to play some sport in college, have always gotten a mixture of financial aid, academic money, KEES money and some athletic money thrown in there. I'm sure when these people say full ride, they are just saying that, that particular person is getting everything paid for probably without having to take out loans. Most college students including athletes have to wind up taking out loans, to get expenses paid for now days.

There is no such thing as a full ride in baseball. What Pikeville College is doing right now is offering academic/athletic packages to several local standouts in an attempt to lure them to Pikeville College and to keep them from going out of the area. The package consists of several components based primarily on financial need first. Any available grant money that the student may qualify for is then figured into the equation. Academic consideration which can be taken from ACT scores, GPA, or any academic scholarship money the student /athlete may qualify for is then figured . The qualification of the student then to procure low interest Stafford Loans or no interest Perkins loans are them equated. One must be carefiul to recognize that this money is not free and ultimately must be repayed. The very last thing offered is actual athletic scholarship money which in most cases does really involve a lot of money, as Pikeville only has 11.7 full scholarships to divide among a roster approaching 40 players.
The bottom line as long as the money is offered in one form or another is really does not matter the source as long as the bottom line is there. I will say I am very pleased to see Coach Ashby use whatever resources he can acquire to create a package to make an attractive offer lure to our local athletes.
