That is one of the most ridiculous wastes of land I have ever seen. Turn that part into another retail store (Best Buy) or something that could have more of an economic impact than just a car wash.

I'd dont see them putting them in. Sonic maybe but there was rumors before of Red Lobster being put in but Pikeville doesnt have a big enough populaton to need it. Plus there would be no workers...I mean get real...plus you would NEVER be able to get a seat to eat. Applebee's is ALWAYS packed so I'd hate to see how packed a GOOD restaurant would be.

You just said they Pikeville does not have the population to support a good resaurant when you put that people are always backed out the door at applebees. That indicates to me that there is a need for another restaurant over in that area to offset the amount of people at the applebees.

Very true statement, the only reason so many people are there is because it's the only dinning restaurant in that area, people go to wal-mart and lowes and staples; then they want a good place to eat, another good restaurant in that area would even out the customers dinning at each place and make them both less crowded.

One thing about the tourism industry - you have to have somewhere to eat if you are going to be effective in tourism and the Expo Center is helping to bring chain restaurants to Pikeville.

I don't see that happening. The population has been steadily decreasing in Pike County and a few restaurants won't change that or the drug and unemployment problems in the area.
I don't mean to sound so negative but like I said before these places would be hard pressed to find workers. That is the main problem with why the Steak and Shake hasn't been put in now. The guy who wants to put it in knows he won't have workers.

Pikeville just needs a few tweaks to allow for more economic improvement. Have you all seen the information about Pikeville possibly getting an updated airport? With that one project, so many things can open up to Pikeville. One way to influence the economy may be to build some kind of infrastructure with industry, get a plant, factory, bigger companies or something to being development around where the commerical airport will be. Another, could be developing on down the road towards Belfry. With the opening of the last section of the 4 lane road to Belfry, Pikeville will have another potenial spot for future growth.
However, things can go wrong and things can fall through but I don't want to be a pessimist.
Anways, back to the restaurant topic. I never thought of a steak and shake but the more I think about it the more I would like to see one be put in.

Olive Garden is nice, but if we are getting a chain Italian place I would love to see a Carrabba's (anyone else eaten at the one in Lexington?) come to Pikeville. Also, I don't worship at the feet of Red Lobster like a lot of folks around here, but it would still be a step up from Long John's/Captain D's. Someone also mentioned Outback, I agree, an excellent choice for a steakhouse.
One thing we probably don't need is another Mexican place! With 3 already, Pikeville probably has more Mexican restaurants per capita than any other city in the country! :)

Three is a bit too much but I don't eat at the feista Mexicana which I have heard is HORRIBLE!!! Anyways, I did like O' Charleys when I ate at one outside of Columbus. However, it does have a Applebee's type feel to it.
I have never ate at Carrabba's. I will have to when I go back to school.

Another good Italian place to eat in Lexington was the place on Alexandria Drive known as both Lexitalia and Paisano's (at different times). The food was really good, and it was kinda out-of-the-way and as such was never very crowded. Oh, and I should mention that supposedly the mafia-types liked to frequent the place when in town on business! I know it sounds like a goofy rumor, but I heard it from several locals when I lived in Lexington, and there was one time when it seemed like they may have been in the back VIP room when I was there eating in the front section. There was a big limo parked out front, and the staff was running in and out of the back room like crazy, as though they were really trying to keep someone happy. I know, it could've been any local bigwig they were trying to please, but it's more fun to think of it being the mafia. :D
Anyway, it's a moot point now. When I was in town last year I tried to go there to eat and it was closed down.

There have been rumors for years about most of these eateries coming to Pikeville. The sonic is coming, a Paintsville Businessman is putting it in and if it goes well like the one in Paintsville I hear he may put one in P’burg too. I understand that a different type of business (not food related or electronics) is going in over behind where The Castle is. I’m not at liberty to say as of yet.

I don't know what BW3's you went to but in Lexington Tuesdays are 40 cent traditional wings as the special. The place would go bankrupt if they sold boneless for 15 cents.

The more the better. No matter what Pikeville gets it will help our living around here. Pikeville has a population around 6500 according to google earth census. But that dont include all the people that travel into P'ville everyday. Instead of a friggin carwash, a BestBuy would be great. Think of how many people from our area go to Best Buy in Lex or Huntington.

I thought a car wash was a stupid idea, too, then I see that it looks like the Landmark is adding another two stalls to their car wash in town!
I don't really get it, but apparently there must be a big market for car washes right now. Me, I'd just as soon wash mine at my house.

I guess there must be a market for the things, or else there wouldn't be so many new ones being built.
The main problem I have with the car wash going in by Wal-Mart is that it is using up a prime piece of commercial real estate. That land could've been used to lure another retail store like a Best Buy, or a couple of smaller stores or restaurants. Instead, such a great location is being taken by a car wash. It just seems like that could hurt the chances of landing something more desirable (at least to me).

Completely agree. There will still be a little piece of land next to it but I don't think it is big enough for a big retail chain. Maybe a restaurant.

This section of the thread has turned into us venting about the land being used up. :p Anyways, even with the horrible decision to put a cart wash there, maybe a restaurant or an addition to the riverside plaza (correct me if that is not the name) could be made. Just something to compensate for the wasted land..

I would love to see these restaurants come in but it won't happen. They have requirements for these places. Buffalo Wild Wings requires a certain population, a large percent of that population has to be people between 21 and 30 years of age, and the road has to have so many people come through it everyday. Some of these places have requirements for operation that Pikeville doesn't have.
