Today in East Ridge's football meeting, Coach Branham asked who could play quarterback on the team and I was curious who will be the quarterback for ER?

Our QB situation will be hard to place. But im not going to say who I think it is just yet.

CoachB

I'll tell you, whoever has the best composure under pressure and can throw the football.

warriorpride
07-12-2007, 10:59 PM
wow than it just narrowed it down alot.

CoachB
07-12-2007, 11:05 PM
You may be surprised, I can teach them to throw, if they can handle the pressure and remember the plays.

warriorpride
07-12-2007, 11:12 PM
Well my friend Channing Pugh tries to play QB but he has a nack to throw about 3-4 ints a game but of course these are FM and JV games. but I believe he could be turned into a good QB

Jonnyappleseed

Caleb Epling can play a little QB...he is great under pressure but he can't throw that well. The next best QB I can think of would be Brian Casey, even tho he's a frosh.

channing has worked alot this summer to become a better qb and iam sure if u teach him how to throw more accurate he can do the job

Jimmy Dugan
07-13-2007, 11:46 AM
i'm not sure who Channing is but I hope he can step up. "if" er puts two recievers on the field, epling will probably be one of them. In that case bryan casey or the pugh kid would have to step up. I know nothing on channing but I know that bryan is the best freshmen qb er has had since its existance.

we will just have to see what this casey kid has on monday...

baseballfan606
07-14-2007, 02:00 PM
i dont know about who will be the starters but i dont think the loss of Korey Fields will hurt the defense at all...Korey is more of a offensive player rather than defense

Jonnyappleseed
07-14-2007, 05:46 PM
I'm glad he isn't playing...from talking to some players last year, in the Phelps game when ER was up big, he didn't want to go in because it was "too cold".

warriorpride
07-14-2007, 06:48 PM
Yea that is true but I guess he got less cold when he ran the Td in after he said that.

It appears to me Coach B that this kid spells team with an "I" in it.....someone needs to let him know what team is...
T =together
E= everyone
A=acheives
M= more

A lot of kids these days seem to have that "Iam the team" disease...or "I dont like the coach he yells at me" crap it's FOOTBALL if you aint got the kahunas stay home and play your xbox or what the **** ever....My hats off to all the fine young men on every team who has the guts to go through two a days and the season..good luck to all the east ky teams this year....

Not To Get Off Subject..but Does Anyone Have Any Predictions On Who Will Be On The Startin O And D Line??

warriorpride
07-15-2007, 09:14 PM
Well we lost alot last year. I know Jordan Cantrell will come back to play some DE. But the is up for grabs I guess.

Jimmy Dugan
07-15-2007, 11:06 PM
this is my mock starting defense, just assuming the D is set up like this. Mike Rowe at DE, Peyton Ratliff D tackle, Brad Muncy (if he is eligble) at nose guard, if not the other peyton could start there, brad branham and travis bartley at middle linebackers (assuming travis is eligble), austin cox and tommy bingham at outside linebackers, caleb epling at safety, justin thacker and one corner and i am clueless as to who could start at the other corner.

kyfan5
07-15-2007, 11:40 PM
i dont know if this is true but i heard some Elswick kid from Er would be starting this year..and also i heard he was BIG!

p_casey#21
07-15-2007, 11:43 PM
only one i can think of is justin thacker

warriorpride
07-15-2007, 11:48 PM
Well we also have Tyler Bentaly and Daneil Kelly

baseballfan606
07-15-2007, 11:48 PM
i think mike rowe could play some wide reciever..but who would ER replace at TE??

warriorpride
07-15-2007, 11:50 PM
I rember last year Big Wes Ray telling me he was going to try to be a TE...?

baseballfan606
07-15-2007, 11:52 PM
haha man i dont know about big wes beina TE...maybe if he lost 60 lbs and got 2 seconds quicker on his 40 time....hes more of a tackle than anything

p_casey#21
07-15-2007, 11:53 PM
mike rowe is to good of a blocker on the line to move out to wide receiver but he would be good be cause he is fast, good route runner, and he has the height

lol i kno big wes played TE in jr high

p_casey#21

i dont think that big wes could play TE but i say that justin thacker and caled epling will be at receivers and brad branham and tommy bingham will be the backs and either channing or brian will be at qb dont kno much about the line right now oh yea and mike rowe at TE

p_casey#21
07-16-2007, 12:47 AM
what do u think about the rosters that i posted do u think that is how it will turn out warrior pride

warriorpride
07-16-2007, 01:18 AM
yea that could work. but i dont see mike rowe at TE

Jimmy Dugan
07-16-2007, 07:35 PM
Mike Rowe has played TE the past two seasons and has done a great job at that position, so why can't you see him there? He doesn't have quick enough feet to be a WR. Caleb Epling and Justin Thacker will be the recievers, they will just have to find another QB.

warriorpride
07-16-2007, 09:38 PM
So everyone who was at practice today how do you think it went?

Shizzy
07-16-2007, 10:57 PM
Well guys I'm not going to point out any specific posts but from what i am reading some of them make no sense at all.....heres the thing, when we get our pads on we will see who plays what position from what i saw today things were REALLY off but time will tell we got 10 days and then we will start looking at who plays what until then its anybodies position.

Gotta Luv the Game
07-16-2007, 11:45 PM
Ok, let me be the first to say, Channing Pugh will NOT play varsity QB (Or any position), Bryan Casey or Justin Thacker have a better shot. I'm not trying to to be mean, but the truth hurts sometimes. Also, it would be dumb to put Cantrell at DE when you have Mike Rowe to play there, Brad Branham and Travis Bartley at Middle linebackers.

Hey man how do you know Channing wont play QB? He's worked all summer.

Shizzy
07-17-2007, 12:18 AM
Channing may have worked all summer but he needs to hit the weight room to put some meat on his bones because a QB is gonna get knocked around sometimes and they have to be able to go the next play. Also from what I saw his throwing is off and we are gonna pass more this year. The best person for that position is Justin but hes the kinda guy that can play alot of different positions so its gonna be a close call.

Ahh I say we had about some where from 30-40 but that a guess.

does channing have any experience at qb

Yea he played his 8th grade postions at Feds Creek at QB and last year he was the QB on the freshman team and sometime JV team

p_casey#21
07-17-2007, 02:57 AM
I don't want to mention any names but some people at practice said that Channing was good enough to play QB on the varsity team.

warriorpride
07-17-2007, 03:00 AM
Well I disagree with that. Channing has been my friend snice pre-school but in all honestly I dont see him starting the QB position on varsity.

Agreed, players from the same school/team should not argue who plays which position, the coaches will have everyone in the right spots in a couple of weeks. Right now they are just seeing what abilties everyone has etc. There will be no spots set in stone really until about a week after you guys put the pads on.

I am supprised at this hire. Not that it was a bad one, but I thought Coach Branham had a better chance to win at BL. I coached most of these kids at Millard and they should have some talent. Did Austin Stilner ever come back? The coach needs to get Mark Bartley out to play reciever. He has great hands and he has great spead. What ever happened to Travis Bartley?

Good luck to ER and Bobby Branham. He is a great guy that loves the game. I hope he can turn things around up there, but I am afraid that it is going to take a lot. Good luck ER!

I dont know what the problem is....their young kids usually win but they cant produce at the varsity level...i saw them play a jv game last year and they looked really good....I was just wondering why they always win a big portion of their jv and freshman games but never win any varsity game????

In the previous years that I have watched a ER game, THe JV and Freshman always run different offense and defense than the varsity. It takes dedication too which alot of people may get discouraged given the fact people always look down on the program and that the coaches in the past have always stayed 2 years and left. Maybe the kids say well if they dont care then why should I? And give up on lifting and offseason activites...

Coach, that was a problem with the different offenses in days gone by. We are now on the same page and not only run the same offense on the varsity, j.v. and freshmen. WE now have East Ridge Middle Football team and they are running a similar offense at tthe middle school. I am also going to be working with the little league programs to try to implement this at that level. I wish you all the luck in the world coach B. I think you really have the heart to turn this program around. It may not be immediately, but you are definately on the right track if you are implementing similar offenses in JHS level and also reaching out to the little league. You should have a top-notch program if you stick with it!

Not only could it be the type of offense that the team is running, but you have to think that most schools (esp. in the mountains) are not going to be playing their best Freshman and Sophomore players because of fear of injury and most probably play on Friday nights. Not taking anything away from those wins, but IMO, the most important part of JV games is players getting PT and experience not who wins or loses.
