CUMBERLAND VS JOHNSON CENTRAL

Starns again bring an extremely athletic team who look to create havoc in the 15th
region.
PAINTSVILLE VS SOUTH CHARLESTON ,WV

to try out their talent on the traditional powerhouse Louisville Male.
PIKEVILLE VS KINGSPORT DOBYNS-BENNETT ,TN
Coach Williams continues his drive toward a 15th region crown in this match-up

MASON COUNTY VS CHRIST PRESBYTERIAN ACADEMY NASHVILLE, TN
Mason County’s Coach O’Hearn brings one of the top ranked teams in Kentucky
and one of the most sought after Division I players Darius Miller into this year’s

top talent, this game is must see!
SCOTT COUNTY VS ST LOUIS VASH0N, MO
2006 Kentucky Champion
and preseason number 1 Scott Co. battles 11 time
Missouri state champion St Louis Vashon in this not to be missed game! Scott
Co. led by Indiana committed Bud Mackey looks to improve his team’s national

strong nationally ranked Missouri team coached by former NBA player Anthony
Bonner.
Looks better this coming year than last season, 5 of those kentucky teams have the potential to be top teams in the state next season.

The Farm Bureau Classic is now sanctioned by Pikeville High School. I think what you are seeing is a huge basketball push by PHS. I kind of expected this to happen when D.P. May joined a coaching staff that was already very good. I think ER drug their feet on hiring a coach last year and this is when Pikeville jumped all over the FB Classic. I don't think it really matters but it does seem to make more sense for Pikeville to be the host school because they are much closer to the Expo and they also have their program back near the top of the 15th region. This classic has always invited only the best teams from the area and now, unfortunately, East Ridge is not one of those.

Had the privilege of seeing Mackey and Scott County play at State and they put on an excellent performance down there. Im also looking forward to seeing Darius Miller who is not only one of the best players in the State, but also considered one of the best in the Nation. Nothing like Basketball in Kentucky!

ER kind of drug their feet on getting a principal last year much less getting a ball coach.

It is my understanding that Coach May, (Denny Paul), is the one who did all the work for it as far as contacting schools, scheduling the games that were in it. If he did all the work for the tourney while he was at East Ridge, then they pretty much ran him off. Why should he leave what he worked for if he is the one who was responsible for it taking place in the first place? Does anyone know if the coach at East Ridge this year or last year tried to do any of the organizational for it? Who is the one who did all the calling to the teams that are going to be involved in it this year?

I think that Kent Thacker does a great job getting quality teams for the classic. I think he is trying to add games for Friday night and Coach Ratliff of ER does not want to play on that night. He is scheduled to play Jackson City. Why not move the game to the Expo Center. The classic is not Pikeville High School Based it is Farm Bureau based and it is under the direction of Kent Thacker. There is no host school no more after it was moved from East Ridge.

The host is now Pikeville High School.....
In Past years coaches including James Hurley and Denny Paul May have organized the event. Kent Thacker has been the sponsor of the event.
Last year Kent and Coach May shared the responsibility of contracting teams with Kent sponsoring. The field last year was hurt by last minute transfers from Long Beach Poly and Glenn NC. Eric Wallace and Marshall Moses left their teams after the contracts were signed.
This year Kent has contracted all the teams and has an incredible field.
I repeat again that Pikeville High School is now the host school.
This is turning into the premier event in KY high school basketball and the credit should go to KENT THACKER

I think I mentioned earlier about Oak Hill(VA) coming to the Warrior Classic and playing Male when Oak Hill was #1 in the country and Male was near the top spot in the state. June Buchanan and Shelby Valley played and East Ridge played Clark County I think. ER won the 15th that year. I tried to look the tournament up but I couldn't find it on KHSAA. The talent in all the classics have been great, but I don't think it gets much better than that.

I think I will have to agree with earlier posters, this has to be the best lineup the Classic has ever offered. Even if they did have the #1 team in the country that year, I still would say there are more strong teams overall this year.
You've got St. Louis Vashon, Christ Academy from Nashville, South Charleston WV, and Kingsport Dobyns-Bennett coming from out-of-state, plus three top in-state teams in Mason Co., Scott Co., and Louisville Male. Then add in the three best teams from the 15th region, and two other strong mountain teams in the opener, and you've got one heck of a day of basketball.

Really, when you have players such a Darius Miller and Bud Mackey in the turny, there's not much comparing to any other year that you can do, them two represent the tournament alone. It's gonna be one **** of a day of basketball.

I think very good teams, rather than superstar players, are what makes for great basketball games. Then again, this event will likely have no shortage of either.

There will be 3 games on Friday Night:
Pikeville's girls will play Boyd Co., along with Pikeville, Belfry, and Jenkins boys with the last opponent to be announced later. East Ridge could have played on Friday night as well but must have declined. I doubt if Denny P. May had much to do with ER not playing in the main event. I think ER's record from last year and lack of returning firepower is the reason that they aren't competing on Saturday.

Incidentally, if they are serious about making this a two-day event, they need to upgrade the competition for the Friday night games. Not much there to draw in anyone other than each team's fans.

WOO hoo two nights in a row at the expo! Nothing like two early post-season atmosphere games! Can't wait!

Well, I think the atmosphere on Friday night will be a little different. With the game in Pikeville, the Panthers should have plenty of fans there, but I'm not sure how many people from Belfry will be willing to make the trip down 119 just to see a regular-season game. So it will probably be almost like a home game for Pikeville.
Do you agree with me that if they want this to be a two-day event, that the competition on Friday night needs to be upgraded? If bringing in an out-of-state team is not feasible, then at least have a strong in-state team in the final game, preferably someone from outside the mountain regions.

I think that would be the best idea for a two-day event but I think it should stay at one day or have the games early Sunday, because to get teams from far away may not be possible for a friday night game. I personally liked it last year, I was there from 11 am to 12 pm. It did get a little tiresome heading into the Central vs Glenn NC game, so I wouldn't mind seeing a couple games moved to Sunday but I'd like to get them all in on Saturday if possible.

Not sure why Pikeville College is a part of this event. Thought this was supposed to be a showcase for great high school teams, but okay.
Anyway, I don't know if I will make it to both sessions on Saturday, but that night session looks to be a doozy! Hope there is a big crowd there!

Thanks for the info!
In case anyone was wondering, a weekend pass for all three sessions is $18 reserved and $12 general, essentially double the price of a single-session ticket. So if you plan to see all three sessions, this would definitely be the way to go.

Thank James Hurley for this tournament. He got it all started when he was coach at East Ridge. He brought in Oak Hill during Rondo's senior season. Farm Bureau is continuing the success and reaping the benefits of an outstounding facility in downtown Pikeville.

I think the Pikeville/Dobyns-Bennitt will either be close, or a blowout. DB has only one sophomore on their varsity squad. The rest are juniors and seniors. They have size in every position. 9 players over 6 foot tall with a 6'9" and a couple 6'6" and 6'5" players. Not to mention they are the winningest program in the nation.

I have a feeling it'll be a blowout, Adams can only handle 1 guy over 6'5.

Paintsville vs. South Charleston will be the best game IMO...Why ?
BlackcatAlum

Why ?
Because they are both very quality opponents. Both teams are very talented, and both get after the ball and play with intensity. Should be a very interesting game.
The King

I think those two teams may be the most evenly matched. South Charleston has a nice team, but Paintsville seems to be playing well thus far this year.
I'm sure that Male will be more athletic than Valley, and that may make them difficult for Valley to deal with. The other games will hopefully be entertaining, but I just don't know anything about the out of state teams... I did watch Mason play at Sheldon Clark earlier this year... Miller is an exciting player to watch, but Trevor Setty is a very good player as well...
