I don't know if I would make a guess on this question. Things are different during each presidency, and there have been a bunch of presidents. I'm gonna say good ol Honest Abe, I mean he held the country together in probably its darkest time. But that doesn't mean that his decisions were any harder than FDR's when he helped decide to nuke hirshima, ahh I'm rambling.

Abe Lincoln

I don't understand why everyone is saying Clinton was one of the best Presidents. He lied to the entire nation while in office too didn't he?

Bush has ruined our reputation by starting a meaningless war with Iraq and when Bush lied he caused not only our soldiers to die, but countless innocent Iraqis too. Clinton just lied about a personal affair.

A stain on the office is a stain on the office. As President one is the nations number one law officer.
I try to be honest a politician is a liar first dem/rep second
I can not honestly say that I have seen one that i felt held the office in its highest regards.
They have good and bad qualities all of them.
I like Washington he didnt tell a lie but he wasnt a politician either
Honest Abe for his willpower thru our nations most difficult time
FDR for his assistance program to bring us out of the depression
Truman Who dropped the Bomb to save lives

I felt JFK and Johnson crippeled this nation by creating the welfare state that we presently live in
Reagan ended the cold war which is something I experienced and most of you did not.

If Clinton and G W Bush were to spontaneously to combust im not sure I would uranate the fire out to save them. No, I am sure I would not.

Jimmy Carter is the best overall president I have seen during my lifetime. He was a one term president that had the politics stacked against him and he was not re-elected. Carter is a good of man that ever was president. A solid God abiding man that after defeat did not fall into oblivion and set back and draw his presidential pension, Soc. Sec., and live off his many financial investments as he has always been financially secure. He did the exact opposite, went to work with Habitat for Humanity providing lost cost housing for the needy. He has worked many democratic elections thru-out the world since leaving the White House. He has received the Nobel Peace Prize for his post presidential work. He is still involved everywhere promoting America, Democracy, and Goodwill on our behalf. He is always positive, a true Democrat and noble American. Once a President, dedicated, and will be to the day he dies. Overall, Jimmy, you ARE the best and a TRUE AMERICAN...

Reagan ended the cold war. would you have liked a nuclear war with Russia?

Did he really end it? Or is that what you have just been told?

4leaf
03-01-2005, 05:25 PM
If that wasn't directed toward anyone specifically I will go ahead and say that I was not taught that Reagan ended the Cold War, however in my opinion he did. The issue is very debatable I agree, but without the pressure that Reagan put on the Russians and the deficit spending then it wouldn't have ended so quickly or at all for what we know.

You know, I do think my history teacher told me that little piece of information.

ComfortEagle
03-01-2005, 05:28 PM
I was taught he did, and did not form my opinion that he did not until later down the road. The Soviet Union had been in decline since Nixon, it was no surprise that it happened, but I don't think Reagan should get full or even most of the credit for it.

But that's my opinion and I'm done with the Politics Forum for today.

I was taught the opposite of you GF in my HIS class, but also decided differently later.
You shouldnt leave the Politics Forum, you're educated posts make them enjoyable to read. We don't see eye to eye on most politcal issues but you have never attacked me and I am very open minded to your posts.
