Maydo and Charlie Dotson, from Belfry, would obviously be my picks. I've not seen Johnson Central yet though.
Forget all those Lexington/Louisville teams, they don't count in my book :P
Then again, they might not want to line up against our defense either ;) (kidding, StX would rip us a new one).

Bart Teague and Jon Howard from Hazard get downhill to the ball better than most linebackers in the Eky area. Tim and Ted from Pikeville are good too...

Prestonsburg LB's (Nathaniel Stephens, Seth Setser, Dalton Taylor) are really good, only giving up around 130 total offensive yards to Pikeville.

When Tyler Jones from Russell is healthy he is one heck of a load. When Russell played Ashland, he hit Carter so hard several times that it knocked the taste out of his mouth. Okay just kidding about the taste, but Carter was helped off the field three times.

I agree. The later in the game it got the slower Carter got up. Gotta give him credit. He took some ugly hits from Tyler and kept getting back up. He will be a good one the next two years.

One tough young man. On the last hit I was not sure he was going to get up. He did sat out a couple of plays and came back for more. He will be a star at Ashland.

Did you see the flop at the end of the game though?:)

Yes I did. He did get the clock stopped for Ashland and were able to get off one more play. That play would not have happened without the flop. Could you imagine if Ashland would have scored. Carter would have been the hero with a flop.

Very much agreed. I haven't seen them hit anyone in the mouth that doesn't play on a weak team. Against P-Burg, Belfry, and Lex-Cath I couldn't even tell they were on the field. I mean I think they are good players for this area but not State wide. They have been hyped up by their coaches but they aren't producing to the level to be expected. I'd say to look at the best LB's in the state you would have to look at the Lexington Area, Louisville Area, and Western part of the state.

i believe Jonah Justice from Shelby Valley is just as good as Tim and Ted. Jonah plays linebacker. he took out one of Belfry's running backs. (cant remember who). Jonah Justice is great so dont leave him out. He is an under rated player in my book.

May be a good area high school player but not tops in the state. The majority of the people in Eastern Ky don't know what a stud LB is. This is just for the fact they aren't exposed to them as often as people in other areas are. So when someone is a good player they use the term "best in the state" when truthfully they don't know what the rest of the state has to offer.

What is his size right now? Do you think he has any growing left in him?
I was one of those kids that hit their growth spurt late. From my freshman to my sophomore season I grew 6 inches and gained 50 lbs.

The BEST linebackers in the state? No, but the best in the mountains are by far Belfry's Dustin May and Johnson Central's Chase Richardson & Nathanial Dials, period.
JC's linebackers have played by far the toughest schedule and excelled against every team they have played when Dials & Richardson have been paired together, Dials has also played alot of DE. May is simply a great player! The twins failed in their attempts when they played REAL competition, Blowouts I think.

Good thing it was Tim and Ted's fault that the line couldn't give any help by penetrating any. They can only do so much, none of the other nine on the field helped any, it's not just them.

Please. Tim and Ted are leaps and bounds ahead of Mayo. Not even close in terms of athleticism. I'm no psychic so I can't predict where they will end up, but what I can attest to is that they are both great young men. Yes sir, no sir types of kids. Until you get to know them on a personal level, don't judge them. I agree, they aren't All-World linebackers who will dominate the SEC or anything, but they are great young men. Good luck to them in everything they do. They have earned every bit of attention they have received and everything they will get in the near future.

Yea great young men, thats why they lead the state in personal fouls... They are punks on an off the field, I know first hand... There attitude will get them no where... tim and Ted do lose their heads on the field some, but I don't see it fair to take a shot at their personal life that I have never heard of them doing anything. They are both good kids who often get caught up in the moment and act on impulse. They will have to learnt to control that at the next level, but off the field they are physically and mentally ready.

Please re-read my post and the one I was questioning. The post I was replying to clearly stated that Tim and Ted were nothing compared to guys like Mayo (John Michael Mayo, who graduated last year), not Dustin May. Mayo was a great leader, but in terms of athleticism he is nowhere close to the Honakers. I never said Dustin May was a bad player because I know better. He is just as physically talented as Tim and Ted if not more so. And don't even get me started on people who judge Tim and Ted based on the two or three games a year they get to see them play. I will be the first to tell you that they do lose their cool at inopportune times (which is a MAJOR flaw in their game), but to judge these kids' character based on the fact that they are extremely passionate about the game that will more than likely provide them with a college education is just ignorant. I don't know what kind of experiences you have had with these young men, and maybe you have only seen the bad side of them, but if they are such terrible young men on and off the field, are you that much better than them sitting at home on your computer bashing them every chance you get? If you've got a problem with them, either be a man and deal with it or suck it up and move on...don't whine about it on an online football forum. I'm sorry for getting off subject, but this is an issue that really burns me up. All these kids are great players or they wouldn't be mentioned in this thread. This whole site would be a much more informative and enjoyable place if everyone could just lay off the personal attacks and leave the discussions strictly to sports.

This is an opinion based sports forum. Everyone is encouraged to voice their opinions but when the personal attacks start it just makes the site look bad. Maybe it's time to start handing out a few suspensions to people that keep straying off topic?

The last person in the EKY area that could've been considered the best LB in the state was probably Durrell White from Middlesboro. That is what and SEC LB is supposed to look like and play like even though he was moved to DE after tearing his ACL before the KY/TN allstar game in '02. Since then, I can't think of another one even close to his level.

I believe his name is Slusher, who is at Auburn the last time I heard anything. He was a beast of a player...another one I just thought of was Hostetter from Lawrence Co. He and another kid (who played at Pikeville College) was mentioned in a neewspaper article in Dallas Tx as to being possibly the best LB duo in the nation.
