Congratulations on a great game. Both teams played very hard with Russell coming out on top. It was good to see Jones in for the whole game on both sides of the ball. David Bailey had a great game tonight. Russell got another very slow start but came back hard in the second half.

Exceptional football facility with a packed house.

Kudos to both teams. Both teams played hard and as far as I could tell played clean hardnosed football. Congrats to David Bailey, WOW, what a return on the kickoff.

I was very impressed with the quality of the Raceland team. They are a very good team that can play with anyone. Someone said it was a fluke that you beat Ashland two years in a row. I can assure you it was no fluke. Great team..

I read this morning in the newspaper that David Bailey redemed himself after his sub par performance last week. I just have three thing to say about Bailey. 1. The young man has the skills and the talent to become one of the Russell great backs. 2. The TD run was one of the greatest returns I have seen in High School. I really liked the way he gave his blockers credit for the run. Class. 3. Congratulations to Bailey on being the MVP for Russell.

One other that I thought played well was John Cornwell. We don't hear his name much. Tough kid.

I want to say that I stand corrected on the Tyler Jones injury. He should have played the whole game last night because there were no signs that he was hurt that I could see. I'll bet that ankle is still sore though.

Bates is fast. It was nice to see him run away from the defense. He is going to be a nice back in the future.

Was kinda surprised by Raceland's run defense, but they were loading the box, which is why the passing game is so important. They did a really good job stopping Abrams last night, which surprised me, hes a real good runner, but they were just in the hole all night long leaving nowhere to run mose of the time, kudos to Drew for hanging onto the ball he got hit in the backfield a few times, which is where most fumbles happen, gotta credit their coaching staff for having them ready for the Russell rushing attack. Luckily Bailey had a great game along with Bates, and took alot of the pressure off Drew. I look for him to go for 150+ on EC in 2 weeks.

Way to step up Dave Bailey. You could see it even in pregame.

Hard running by Abrams and Bates as well. Big time credit to the O line. They have been great all year against teams loading up the box.

Tyler Jones ankle still appears to affect his ability to cut and running the ball.. Nice job finding recievers and making plays.

Russell's defense was superb in the second half. Dillon, Bender and Cornwell along the line. The secondary looked good as well. Also Russell will be very good at linebacker for the next couple of years. Sophmores Will Rice and Kamron Smith have played very well and continued to do so last night.

No way there was 6000 people there last night...It was a good crowd but had the game been at Russell everyone would have had a seat if they wanted it...I doubt the crowd was much better than the Greenup game at home to start the season...Everyone was packed in like sardines...You can take a packed house at a Marshall basketball game and it looks a lot bigger than the same crowd in Rupp...

The bootleg relies heavily on being able to make that quick cut and I too noticed that the ankle was causing problems on that particular play.

I also noticed that when he was about to get hit, especially on the side of his hurt leg, he would lift his leg in the air so it would not get hit even more.

But maybe thats what they think they need to beat Russell.:D

I'd like to think the administration at Raceland would have had more sense than to let them bring that kind of inappropriate sign on the field.

That sign in my opinion wipes away all the positive things about that game.
It just goes to show that Raceland, despite all the dressing up has "No Class."

To accuse the atheletes at Russell of using steroids is not only unfair but I'm getting tired of hearing it. It's pure cliche' and not condusive to a healthy rivalry.

Raceland can go crawl back under the rock they crawled out from under for all I care.

I do want to thank the Raceland Fans, Parents Faculty and Atheletes for polishing up that pretty lantern for the Russell Trophy Case. It looks real nice in the student union all shiny and everything.

I tried having this conversation on the "other site" and was harshly ridiculed and corrected by one of the "adminstrators". One person who has been a member of the site for 5+ years was banned because they discussed this issue.

I'm so glad that here on "rivals" we can have the freedom to express our displeasures over something that was inappropriate and downright tasteless and classless. Some of the other signs that did not get a picture taken of were;

Russell can't hustle because they have fake muscles
Beat Russell and send them back to "He??" (you fill in the last two letters)
Bend bender in half

there are signs that you can make (i.e. the pitchfork and shove it sign) that are okay and all in good fun, but to accuse real life individuals ages 15-18 to take a substance that is illegal and which can cause permanent damage to their system is something that is NOT funny. I truly hope that someone sends these pictures to Mr. Melvin the superintendent at Raceland. I'm curious to hear what his comments will be

What you see typed on my post concerning the signs was almost word for word what I put on the other site. I had even done a paragraph before that praising both "teams" on their sportsmanship on the field before, during and after the game. Then I mentioned the signs and "wham" I immediately was hit with a warning and my comments about the signs had "disappeared" from my post.

The person I know that was banned also had just renewed their dues as well.

I didn't see what was wrong with voicing displeasure about what was written and meant for the Russell side to see. I wasn't cussing officials, coaches, players or naming names. I just felt like "administration" needed to know if they didn't already what type of signs the students were writing.

Oh well, this site is better anyway.

If you guys think that the Raceland administration should be held accountable, I suggest some letters to the editor go to the Daily Independent. Make it public. I really think the administrators at Raceland owe the Russell school system an apology for the signs as well as the spray painting of the field house and bleachers at Henry R. Evans.

I was told by a friend of mine from Raceland that the team was devistated by the loss to Russell. That game was more important to them than the state champioship game. He told me with the attitude they have right now it would not suprise him if the got beat by West Carter friday. I think its pretty obvious that this game means more to Raceland.

West Carter can pull it out tonight if they play hard.... And as far as close game... it should have never been that close inthe first place..... Carver scores on a play where we MISS 7 tackles.. 7 TACKLES... he never shoudl have scored on that play... The TD pass was good play and i say it again.. it was a good play.. give them 7. We throw and INT on the 5 yard line getting ready to score. then it would have been 14 -7 us inthe first. After the first half Raceland never had a first down or only had 1. Now thats a shut out.... If that would have been the result 42-7.... Hey but that is why they play the game.........

Hopefully next year will be the last year we play Raceland. It's better for Russell to play a top notch team from WV or possibly pick up another southern Oh team(counting that we r already playing Ironton in 09), than play Raceland. Every team we play in the playoffs is much better than them. I believe EC beat them, correct? thats our first round game.
