Congrats to UHA!! Good game . Congrats to the Tigers on a good showing and making it to the final four! We're proud of you guys no matter what! Put up a good run for a team of what amounts to 4 guards and 1 forward at best.

Now for my thoughts on the game: The Tigers were clearly outmatched in terms of athletic ability and in height. But the Tigers played hard and didn't lose the rebounding edge by much which is remarkable considering the height and leaping advantage that UHA had on the Tigers. The Tigers never really got into their normal offensive sync as is evidenced by their lower than normal score. The Tigers missed several crucial shots, put up several unnecessary threes at times, missed several uncharacteristic free throws, and didn't take care of the ball a few times which in a close game like this one killed them. Despite this typical sub-par performance by the Tigers, they played hard and had the game somewhat in their control late in the fourth with a 4 point lead. But the key play IMO came late in the 4th when Landon was called for a foul on a three point shot. Don't know of anyone other than the ref that thought he even made contact with the shooter, but the foul was called. This allowed UHA to cut a 4 point Tiger lead to 1. Then there was a turnover by the Tigers. Then Grimm had his pocket picked bringing the ball down the floor and that pretty much ended it. Whether the foul called on Landon was just or not is irrelevant as it was called and the Tigers then followed that up with a few more mistakes and dug themselves a hole that they couldn't get out of this time. A little frustrating knowing that the Tigers could have had this one. But they didn't play their best couldn't really get their perimeter shooting to go down early and struggled the entire game.

Was really impressed with the Tigers run in the tourney though. Grimm played hard and tough throughout the tourney and had decent games in all three of the Tigers games. Hats off to Grimm. Landon had a tough first game, a great game last night and then another tough game today. Murray put out his usual effort and played very good D in all the games. JD and Blake didn't play as well in the tourney as they have been playing. But the Tigers have had a good season and have more business to take care of.

UHA has a very impressive team, but they don't take advantage of their ability. The slow half court approach doesn't seem to fit the ability of their players. I'd go with the run and gun if I had a team like UHA. Not overly impressed with Hopson to be ranked as high as he is. With his ability and height advantage, he should've dominated the game and he didn't. That is amazing. He also didn't appear nearly as aggressive as he needs to be for a big guy of his size and ability. I wouldn't mind having him on my team here in EKY, but on a national level, I'm sure I could find plenty that should be ranked way above him. This is not intended to take anything away from this young man because he has the ability if he would just make some changes in his playing style. Too timid to be a key player at the next level at this time IMO.

I Agree. I add: Grimm easily won the battle between those two. If he got the ball on the post, he easily backed Hopson up under the goal, and scored easily more than a couple times. I don't think Vanhoose or Bundy played up to par in todays game. And Murray had his moments on defense, but did some uncharacteristic offensive moves. Overall, the Tigers made the mountains proud IMO. On another note, you gotta consider: Paintsville only goes 6 deep and it showed in this game. I feel the boys were running on Empty, (the red light was flashing in their car), as Grimm and Murray had to be taken out a couple of times for simply cramps I suppose, and the 6 of them may have been a little sluggish than usual IMO......However, I do believe if Paintsville would have beat UHA, they would have won it all. They were the 2nd best team in this tournament IMO.

I agree! The Tigers were stretched thin and I'm sure a little on the tired side. But the FT shooting was only around 58% which is not typical and they shot horribly from 3 point range. Two more of those 3's fall and they hit a couple more FT's and the game was theirs. Not even counting the 3 -4 ridiculous turnovers late in the game which cost us valuable possessions. But they did do well and we can't fault them. Congrats to the Tigers and BMR!!

There's no place for bullcrap posts like that on this site.

:) You're one to talk.

As for the game, Paintsville could have very easily won had they attacked the basket or got the ball to Grimm in the post when Hopson was on the bench in the 4th quarter. Grimm and Landon both had a great game again. Bundy had a solid game on both ends as did Murray. Hopson didn't impress me much, #12 is by far the best player for UHA.

Yeah, Hopson had an awesome put back dunk! One of the better big time plays in the tourney. BUT he should have done it way more often. I still can't understand why he didn't dominate inside the paint more?? The Tigers played great D, but with their size they shouldn't have been able to keep him silent and they did.

Hopson's leaping ability allowed him to get off most of his points that he made. Every shot he hit was within 5 feet of the basket or from the charity stripe. He would not contest a shot face to face. His blocks came from the back side. Edmonson was the star on that team. He hit big shot after big shot to keep UHA in it after Paintsville rallied for the lead. He is a player. I did hear that he is getting looked at my several mid-majors including Southern Illinois, Murray, and WKU.

Since I got injured in the mines a few weeks ago, I have had the luxury of going and watching a few Paintsville games with a buddy of mine that went to Paintsville. I don't get on here very often cause I don't have time, I'm usually working or sleeping. I do however remember seeing the preseason top ten players for the region and honestly I don't see how the VanHoose boy was in there. He is very lazy, he doesn't go after rebounds on either side of the floor, he doesn't go up strong enough underneath, he hits the ground more than anybody I have seen when he tries to go up. Seems like all he wants to do is shoot three pointers for some reason, and he can't even do that. I have watched the last 5 ballgames and I bet he is probably 6-40 from three point range. How is this helping Paintsville? As an outsider looking in, it probably wouldn't be a bad idea to start #5 over him the next two or three games to see how VanHoose plays coming off of the bench. #5 can shoot alot better, he may not rebound very well but neither does VanHoose, atleast that kids tries to. It's just a thought.

This was a very exciting game to watch. I was really impressed with the job Grimm did down low on Hopson, he was a lot taller than Grimm but Shane held his own on both ends of the floor. Landon played a heck of a game with 21 points. Heights also played a great game on both sides and the Hopson put back dunk was one of the most impressive I have ever seen! But congrats to UHA on the win and to Paintsville on making a great run like they did and making the 15th proud.

I agree. Grimmy is by far the toughest kid in the region. He don't back down from nobody and always holds his own. I thought Paintsville could have put the game away in the 4th when Hopson went to the bench with 4 fouls. Shane had a huge mismatch and they didn't get him the ball.

Little harsh on the VanHoose boy miner. He has been in a slump for a little while from downtown. Some kids get into one and then later on find themselves coming out of it. I agree he shouldn't have taken so many when he realized he wasn't hitting because he done a fine job down on the block. I hope your injury heals soon.

I think JD just hasn't come into his groove yet. He played football this year and didn't get to shoot a ball for 4-5 months. I think he will be alright come tourney time. As for Jeremy startin, I think he does a very good job comin off the bench.

Yeah you could tell that UHA depends mostly on Hopson. Paintsville went on a good little spurt when he was out with the foul trouble. I agree also that Shane had a mismatch down low and they didn't feed it to him. I've seen Shane play a lot and he is by far the toughest player in the region, I would hate to try to guard him down low that is for sure.

All I know is is this loss kinda put a damper on my night. The day started out great at around 2 in the mornin saturday when I won a nude pic of the pornstar that was at Solid Platinum, lol. I looked at my buddy when we left and told him Paintsville was gonna win, I just felt it, I was probably more pumped up then the boys were, lol. I didn't even go to sleep til bout 6 in the mornin, stayed up and drank beer by myself and watched TV. Woke up around 9, got a shower, we went to Nicholasville to the Boot Store to find me a new pair of cowboy boots. Drove on to Richmond and at that Mexican Rest. Had a few beers and went on to the gym. After that final buzzer went off I was torn all to ****, didn't even wanna watch the UFC fight. But by the time we got back to Lex and I drank a few cold ones I was ready, lol. This games was still all I talked about all night, I just can't get over it. We should have won this tourney.

No, Lesner beat the **** outta Frank Mir. Lesner took him to the ground at the snap of a finger as soon as the bell rang. He beat him to death and Mir rolled over causin Lesner to hit him in the back of the head forcin another stand up. Lesner knocked him down with a right hook and when he went to get on him Mir got hold of his ankle and Lesner tapped. Give Lesner 2-3 fights to get some experience and he will start rockin everybody's world. I wasn't a believer til the other night, NOBODY even comes close to his strength it's not even funny. His got some skills, just needs more experience.

Vanhoose was 4-25 in the 3 games they played in Richmond Class A State. He totally busted the Tigers bubble. I heard several parents are ****ed that BMR let him loose like that. That team had worked way too hard for that trophy, oh well.

I was updating her on BGR for this game and remember at one point saying, JD u r killing me after he has missed yet another trey, then the next time down John Doug said "and the pass to VanHoose on the block and he turns and puts it in"!! I thought....That's where you need to be son!
I love JD, but sure wish he would play down low primarily and pop out for a few three ball looks.
But according to team stats JD is averaging 7.5 boards a game.

But this game was last week and we just need to put it behind us and move on. We have a regional tourney coming up in March to worry about! Hopefully BMR and his staff will get it together and do what they should do, go inside when possible and not rely on the 3 as much unless they are just wide open. Good luck Tigers!!!

I agree, but I don't think they should shoot the threes unless they're hitting. Regardless if they're wide open. They didn't take all that many contested three pointers in Richmond, just couldn't hit any of em.
