No prob, man. If the arguing and bamboozling is kept to a minimum, should know sumthin by 3 or so at least. There might be some coaches drawing a 5 that try to turn it upside down and make a 2 out of it, so ya never know how long it may take. :)

Seed Schmeed... anyone want to discuss the lunacy perpetuated upon basketball in the 15th region with the (2) 3-team districts of Pike county and then those folks being able to CONTROL our district? What in this world? Have Paintsville, JC, MC, SC, and LC lost their minds.... can someone, who has some knowledge of how this works, please enlighten the rest of us? (and yes, I know the Piarist is in one of those... but we really don't want to get into that.)
Lisa Douglas

yes, I know the piarist school counts as the 4th team in one of the districts....

it works.

Well, yes. We see that... but how is it that you have all these coaches (Ladies & Men's programs) and for the most part we're talking some powerful folks... some are even their school's AD's.... how do they stand around and take this? They obviously knew that the Pike County folks would try and pull this... so what did they do about getting whatever group padded with enough of their "buddies" to counteract this?

Would it be Paul Dotson by any chance?????
The whole thing is politically motivated and controlled. We here in the 57th district had drawn up a proposal to be presented, which would have DEFINITELY been more fair, but it was replaced, shot down... call it what you like, but what we have isn't what we asked for. And, I don't care what anyone says, the 57th got the shaft X 10. Only a blind person couldn't see the truth.

It has been a while that the KHSAA has revamped the districts as a side product of combining schools. It isnt anything political. If the talk holds true and South Floyd, Allen Central, and Betsy Layne combine, and they pull a team from the 57th to compete with Floyd County Central and Prestonsburg Independent, would that be a political move also?

I understand what you're saying... but what's in it for us right now? That wadding them all up will be a while in the offing.... they revamped the districts recently I thought and mc was supposed to be going to the 58th.... now I hear SC might be going to the Belfry District and then I even heard Paintsville might go to the 58th bumping SF into one the Pikeville district.... what a tangled web... what was the proposal that was shot down? I don't like privates playing in public tournaments anyway.... they need a private tournament ... they could have it and I'd leave 'em alone!(but they really can't count the piarist can they?)

Been awhile??? It was just two years ago, and was the most stupid reorganization move known to man.
Lisa Douglas
02-17-2008, 04:37 PM
Well you know, I thought it was re-organized a couple of years ago, but I didn't want to say another silly thing...LOL... the last "re-vamping" was less than advantageous to the 57th district. I was asking if anyone knew what the "proposal" was like that was drawn up and sent to the KHSAA on our behalf. I try so hard to support the KHSAA but they never miss a chance to "foul something up"... and the kids are always the ones who pay the price....

Think what you want. It had political connections, and besides it's only been what 2 years maybe 3 since they redid this. Pike Central, Shelby Valley and East Ridge all existed at that time. What does consolidation have to do with it? Those 3 district teams supposedly have 4, with Piarist and David each in one of them. Your kidding yourself if you think it wasn't political, but I'm not arguing with you. Just look at it with an open mind. It was meant to make it easier for the two Pike County districts.

i agree when LC came into the 57th it really shook up the district, but in all reality if they were going to come to the 15th region it was the only logical choice of districts to choose, but they should have immediately moved SC or MC out of the district when LC moved into it...

Why should another school have to move just because another school
wants to move into their District. Lawrence Co was once the 57th
District and left. They need to make up their mind where they want to
play. SC and Magoffin have always been in the 57th. Why not move
Paintsville?

I whole-heartedly agree with you in that we got screwed, but I'm not so sure "fell for it" is the right terminology. As I said earlier, the administators/coaches (not sure of particulars) in the 57th made a proposal, but Dotson did what he wanted.
And for the person who said it wasn't political, go drag out a Sweet 16 program and see how many current or former directors/board members, etc. are from Pike County.

The whole purpose in the beginning was to move schools to get rid
of the 3 teams Districts. Not because you couldn't compete with the
teams in your District. Didn't work out that way for the 57th.
They already had their 4 teams.

I am just not a proponent of private schools availing themselves of the "goodies" with little or no restrictions and them having to allow them to play and be a part of something we fund. I don't "hate" them or anything... I just don't care for them being a part of something where they don't belong. If they'd like to have their own thing.... form their own association and all that... BMG. (be my guest) Now if the KHSAA would like to remove their restrictions from the public schools and so on... that might lighten my convictions against letting them play in our events. I don't see any or many of them as bringing a ton of revenue with them when they come anywhere. And most of this is about revenue isn't it?

02-17-2008, 05:49 PM
I apologize for B2B postings... but I just don't "buy into" the whole re-districting thing. LC used to be with us.(57th) Then they came back. Not sure about all of that but if the redisticting was about helping the Pike County squads.... not much changed... unless you count giving them an easier ride into the Regional.

Exactly, and that's why no matter how much we public schools complain - nothing will be done. How much money do you think the Catholic churches/schools in Lexington and more importantly Louisville have at their disposal. The KHSAA isn't stupid; they're not going to do anything because of the money.

On the surface it was meant to look like it was balancing the districts by placing the David School and Piarist in the Pike County districts, but as I said "only on the surface". It's sole purpose was as you said, "give them an easier ride to the Regional". After all, the #1 seed in both have a straight shot to the Regional. Equality? Balance? Yeah, right.

Not exactly. If we were playing good, I would agree with you. Big deal what we have done early in the season, we can't do jack now and the players don't even care. Anyone that goes against Paintsville this year is going to lose anyway. They are stacked and have a great team. I think we drew exactly what we deserved, and I am a loyal die-hard Cardinal fan.

But with your line of thinking, should public schools be allowed to play in the All A where it isnt a publicly funded event? It is sponsored by Touchstone Energy. Also by saying that private schools shouldnt be in a tourney that the public funds, does that include regular season games also?
Lisa Douglas
02-17-2008, 08:48 PM
I am not singling out any specific private school. Just do not care for the "privates" playing both ends against the middle.
Where does Touchstone Energy get their funding.... groups like Big Sandy RECC... I have family and friends who all send their kids to public school and pay their "light bills" to them.... annnd we all pay admission and buy our concessions while there... (who gets that money... does Touchstone get it.. and then "give it away") and we pumped 100's of thousands of $$ into the economy... we can stay home. I watched the crowds and was not impressed with the following from UHA... Hazard is an independent like us and they had quite a few more folks traveling with gas over 3 bucks a gallon.... to that tournament. I guess Touchstone can offer this tournament to Privates only and they won't have to worry about contedning with big crowds and so forth... they can entertain 'em all with a case of coca cola and a package of hotdogs.... I guess I just don't believe they should be allowed to play in State Tournaments. Well, now regular tournament like the ones that each school offers... that would be up to them...

My son goes to a independent school also. And yes, a independent school is considered a public school. You just have to live in the district or pay tuition. I think all schools should be like that. Like Hazard, our team has a very good following to the games either at home or on the road. Instead of talking about how the playing field should be even as far as recruiting and stuff is concerned, can you show a page on the KHSAA website that states that private schools can recruit? Isnt it possible for public schools to recruit also? Why not have private schools draw up some school limit boundaries for private schools just the same that public schools have. If a player lives out side the boundaries set, without no concern if it is public or private, and not let a student play. How many athletes would that make not eligible to play for either a public, private, or independent school system?

Exactly right, Cards were 3-0 in district play and lost 5 district games in a row, all they had to do is win one but couldn't. They put theirself in that position so they had to draw. Only shaft the kids at SC got this season was the hiring of the "Harless Gang"

I agree completely. Bottom line is that 4 pike county schools will be in the regional tournament, in pike county at the expo center, every year. Keep in mind, with revenue shared between schools participating in the regional tournament, pike county will keep 50% of the profit every year also.

Exactly right, Cards were 3-0 in district play and lost 5 district games in a row, all they had to do is win one but couldn't. They put theirself in that position so they had to draw. Only shaft the kids at SC got this season was the hiring of the "Harless Gang"
lol :) :).....i agree 100% it was our own fault at sc for hiring such an ignorant man....to get to try to lead our team........dumb move by sc

I think it will come down to Paintsville and MC. MC plays well at home but I will go with the tigers at th end.

According to some of the posts on here, we must have some pull somewhere to automatically have the 2 seed wrapped up. Who else would you say determined this?
Just trying to have fun.;)
