What about the players that should have been great, but injuries or circumstances kept that from happening. I think the two I would pick would be Bo Jackson, he would have easily set the rushing mark. He was faster and stronger than most he played against. My other choice would be Tim Couch. I think had he went to a team that employed actual offensive lineman and maybe sat out his rookie year he could have been great, he had all the tools.

I agree with ya there, Bo Jackson and Couch. Tim Couch spent his rookie season trying to throw the ball while laying on his back.

It is hard to get your legs into a throw when you are horizontal.

Ryan Leaf was a huge dissappointment and usually is considered one of the biggest busts in NFL history.

This isn't about busts. It is about players that had the skill, but for one reason or another they didn't pan out. NOT over-rated no talent guys like Leaf.

Terrell Davis was great when he wasnt battling injuries too..I'd say he and Bo Jackson are the two that stick out in my mind..

Lawrence Phillips is the biggest waste of talent in pro sports history. The guy couldve been one of the best RBs ever but he just could not stay out of trouble.

Ricky Willams- does it need explanation?

Akili Smith- we thought he'd take us to the Super Bowl and he didn't even end up being a decent QB.

Curtis Enis

Winslow Jr.

Todd Marinovich was called the "Robo QB" because of his training sessions with his father. Was thought to be the "QB of tomorrow" when drafed by the Los Angeles Raiders. Flopped and only played about 8 games in the NFL. Another one is Brian Bosworth. Sports Illustrated ran a cover article on him coming out of college calling him "The Incredible Bulk" but his time with the Seahawks ran out after being trucked by Bo Jackson on a nationally televised game.

Winslow Jr. is emerging as an elite Tight End in the NFL. You shouldn't write him off yet. Look at his numbers last season they were pretty good and he is still quite young.

I think Couch falls in the over rated, no talent category also. He has had numerous chances to get back in the league. He just plain sucks.

The SI cover titled "The Incredible Bulk" was about another "Should have been" Tony Mandarich.

I'm going to go off the wall here to everyone else and say Barry Sanders. I love watching him play on classic and his highlights. I think if he would have ever gotten some help, he could have gone farther. Thats the main reason he retired so soon. After all those years of doing it by himself he just got tired.

Barry Sanders is regarded as one of the best backs of all-time, he doesn't fit in this category.
