This game is gonna be very intense...I like the Tigers and I'll tell you why...They have 6 pretty good seniors that play...They have the Best Player in the Region in Slone...They match up very well with Valley, like no other team in the Mountains probably...They have an overall better shooting team than Valley...All 5 players that will be on the floor for the Tigers, can handle the ball...IMO, the keys to this game are...

Individual Keys:

1. Slone has to be on...not smoking hot, but ready to go...
2. Bundy has to control the team, floor, and ball well..
3. Grimm needs to be his usual self...
4. Vanhoose has to hit the boards hard, and knock down a shot here and there...
5. Murray, dont need to be a scorer, but knock down the open shot...

Team Keys...

1. Play Together
2. Stay out of foul trouble
3. Win the battle of the boards
4. Communicate on Defense
5. Just simply want it MORE!

I am split but if I had to pick a team based on what I have seen lately I would have to say Valley. I say this based on the fact that Paintsville will live and die by their shooting. Valley has the only defense that I think can make a difference against Paintsville. Valley not only has a game changing defense but a very finely tuned offense. I think this game is going to be one for the ages. Either team has a great shot to win and take the region title so lets just sit back and enjoy.

To tell the truth if Paintsville plays like they did againts Belfry in the first half then Valley will open up a lead and may be to hard to climb back up. But Paintsville really didn't impressed me much tonight. I will say Valley by 6.
Good luck to both team.

As much as I heard about Paintsville coming into the Belfry game I expected more from them. They let May dominate inside, and the refs let Slone get away with a lot of cheap fouls, we were up top and many people around the rafters were yelling out "come on" "yeah he's going D-1, don't mean he gets special treatment". I think the refs should let them play Monday but they need to officiate the game well. The refs for the Valley/P-burg game will NOT cut it come Monday night, both sides were yelling at the refs all night, looked like these refs were amateurs(probably aren't) but they need to call better games.

Paintsville vs. Valley is what everyone has been waiting to see. This game is not going to shut people up because both sides will have an excuse to why they lose and that is okay. This game is going to be the best game the 15th has seen in a long time and will stay at the top for a long time.

Keys for Valley

1. Elisha controls the floor, takes great shots and draws the fouls.
2. Logan plays great D, pushes the tempo on breaks.
3. Jake makes his great passes and gets physical with Vanhoose and Grimm.
4. Jonah makes his shots and rebound well.
5. Ashley makes his jumpers and plays physical inside.

Both teams can win this game, and either will be fine and dandy to represent the 15th. My prediction is for Valley to take this by 4. They have been to state with this team and know what it takes to get there. They have PLENTY of experience and will leave it all on the floor Monday. This game can go either way, and whoever wins will not win by more than 10.

Good luck to both teams, I cannot, along with everyone else, wait to see this game. Go cats!

To tell the truth if Valley plays like they did against P-BURG!!!!!, in the first half, then Valley may be in trouble. SV didn't impress me much in the first half. Look dude ...that is just the way it goes. Paintsville got that BIG monkey off their back tonight. They got the win and the bad game out of the way. So All i gotta say is Valley better be ready. Cause Paintsville has nothing to loose. They haven't been there and nobody from your way expects them to. So they are good to go right now. Look for a different team come Monday night. I know I will. They are ready!!!! Go Tigers!!!

I still think Paintsville is the best team in the region. They have the best player & the best coach. Those are 2 hard things to over come. Valley scores mainly off there press in the games I have seen and I don't think their press will be that effective against the Tigers. Everyone Paintsville puts on the floor can handle the ball. Valley's ideal situation would be to be aggressive and try to get P'ville in foul trouble. Valley's bench is far better than Paintsville's. I don't think it will be real high scoring. Alot of times in tournaments (espically region) teams tighten up a little and more of the focus is on defense.

I'll go with any team coached by BMR:

Paintsville: 64
Shelby Valley: 59

Good Luck to both.

I was just noticing that the upper bracket, ERHS/JCHS have a combined record of 30-30. The lower bracket, PHS/SVHS have a combined record of 51-7

Both games should be great in their own rights.

I think both SV and Paintsville may have over looked their opponent last night, but settled down and got the W which is all that matters because now we get to see the game we've all been waiting for. I didn't get to catch any of the SV game, but I have heard that they let them play and didn't call a lot of fouls. During the Paintsville game down in the paint looked to be an old rerun of American Gladiators. They were beating and banging, throwing elbows, etc....hopefully things won't get out of hand with the officiating, but I just hope there are no ticky-tack fouls called and let these guys showcase what they can do and not have the outcome determined by someone who is riding on a high horse playing the role of Barney Fyffe.

Regardless, I feel that Paintsville has the players to break the SV press which is what leads to a lot of Wildcat points. It's going to be a good game but I don't think BMR will allow these seniors to settle for anything other than punching their tickets to Rupp. Tigers by 8 (game is closer, but SV has to foul towards the end of the game....just my opinion).

Maybe no one from the Shelby Valley area expects Paintsville to win, but most everyone else does. Consider:

WYMT = Paintsville currently ranked #1 in mountains, SV is #3

Herald-Leader = Cantrall ratings have Paintsville as a slight favorite, plus their high school columnist Mike Fields predicted Paintsville to take the 15th this past Sunday

BGR = Paintsville currently getting about 60% of the vote on this poll

So, I think that Valley is coming into the game as a slight underdog in the minds of the public. Which is probably fairly accurate, I would have to give the edge to Paintsville myself. But not by much.

Whoever hits the most 3s is gonna win, not sure if Valley can extend their defense that well for 32 minutes, also not sure if the Tigers can hold off the Valley press for 32 minutes. If Valley is knocking down shots to set up the press, could be a long night for the Tigers, if Valley is cold, look for Paintsville to put them away. Freethrows and turnovers will be crucial in a game that is decided by every play, look for a great atmosphere at the Expo Center on the game the entire 15th region had been waiting for all year. Too bad I am going to be stuck in Georgetown in a snow storm. Hopefully I can make it down to the 11th region tournament in Richmond tomorrow and can report back. Got two great games there tomorrow, #1 Lex Cath vs. #4 Scott Co and #2 Bryan Station vs #10 Paul Dunbar.

Both games should be great in their own rights.

Both games will also be very different in style.

The key to this game will be Valley's defense. If their defense can slow the Tiger shooting attack they can win this game. I think Hatfield will have an MVP type game, and Valley pulls it out, 78-77.

This is what everyone has wanted to see for the past 2 years now, had a chance earlier this year at the ALL A, but the stage is a little bigger, a little brighter this time around. I do agree with Fox Sports that we need to get our tickets early, really early because this game has the chance to sell out and possibly be the biggest crowd for a basketball game at the Expo Center, counting the Miners to. I really hope that the game lives up to the hype that it is already surrounded with, and the closer the game gets the hype will be insane. Two great teams with a load of talent on both sides, a lot of youth on Valleys side, only having 2 or 3 seniors not for sure how many, and a lot of experience and leadership on Paintsville's side with the 7 seniors who just got their first regional tournament win and will be hungry for more.

This will be a very physical match-up in every aspect of the game. A few important factors of this game will be who crashes the boards and who controls the tempo more, also who defends the perimeter and the paint as well. But the most important thing is who will want it more! Who is willing to make the little plays, do the little things that needs to be done to get to the regional championship game. Like someone said it is all or nothing for Paintsville, win or go home and they will be definitely ready to win and not go home thats for sure. Atmosphere will be unreal at the Expo and I can't wait.

Now for the prediction. I think it will be down to the last few possessions, with Paintsville coming out on top and advancing to the regional final with a 3 point win. The best of luck to both teams in what could be the game of the year.

Should be a great game! As I've said before, either team can win it. I'll have to give the edge to the Tigers IF both teams play their best. But I wasn't impressed at all with Paintsville or SV's first half last night. That can effect the outcome if either one comes out hot and the other tight. Let's hope we get to see the best both have to offer.

That's for sure! May didn't even have a foul called on him until late in the 4th! He was banging with them all game? I know he had to commit a few somewhere in the first 3 quarters! Haven't said anything about this game all year. I'm not really a fan of arguing over something that might not even happen. But since these 2 are finally playing, here's my 2 cents. I'd say that Valley will try to control the tempo, and possibly do what Belfry did and try and work in the paint alot. I've got to see Valley play a couple of times now, and it is obvious that they rely heavily on their defense. They have a good press, and breaking that press, and getting them uncomfortable defensivley will be the key for the Tigers to pull off the victory.
PHS has to play as a team though. They have done great so far this year in being unselfish, and things should continue to go that way for them. IMO, Slone has to have his usual game for Paintsville to win in this one too. Not sure on what kind of defense Valley will run against Paintsville, possibly something to contend the 3 point shot. Grimm HAS to have a big game, and Bundy must run the offense and be smart, not making stupid passes and turnovers. Murray has to have a good game defensively too, and hit the open shots that he gets. VanHoose has to rebound well, as he's done all season long. Slone, Grimm, and VanHoose, all have to rebound well for that matter. This is probably the biggest game this region has seen in a long, long time. I'm anxious to finally see this matchup go down. I'll take the TIGERS by 5, 66-61.

Region 15 Win/Loss Records

OVERALL REGION DISTRICT
Paintsville 27 - 3 - 0 17 - 0 - 0 10 - 0 - 0
Shelby Valley 24 - 4 - 0 13 - 1 - 0 5 - 1 - 0

That is how they rank in the region as of NOW. P-ville #1 S-valley #2 according to khsaa. That don't mean P-ville is going to win but, they go in as the favorite according to that website. All other sites have P-ville as the favorite. Again, that doesn't mean they are going to win. This is March. Just showing that THIS season, Paintsville clearly has the best overall, regional, and district record.

What he's trying to prove is this is not any other year. The past years are irrelevant to this thread, because were not talking about any other year but this year. If we were going to compare the past we could, and I will promise you that Paintsville has alot more impressive resume than Valley, but were not. According to this year Paintsville is the favorite and they should be. Right now they are the best team in the region. Any previous year should not even be brought up, and the fact that it is brought up, shows they are worried about this years Tiger's team. And they should be.

What he's trying to prove is that this year they are the favorite! Any other year shouldn't even be brought up in this argument because we are not talking about any other year but this year. If you do want to compare the past, we could, and I think you will see that Paintsville has a lot better resume in the post season than Valley. However, we're suppose to be talking about this year's team so anything they have done in the past is irrelevant.

Well Its Been Awhile Since I Have Made A Post On Here. I Just Hope Both Teams Bring There A Games Tuesday Night. Imo This Could Be One Of The Best High School Basketball Games In These Mountains In Many, Many Years. I Already Have My Tickets And Cannot Wait To See This Game. I Will Be There Rooting On The Tigers And I See It As A 2 To 3 Point Game In Paintsville's Favor. I Think It Will Come Down To Free Throws And Of Course The Refs. If They Let Them Play Like They Did On Thursday And Be Consistent Then Everything Will Be Fine. I Love Going To A Game Where They Let Both Teams Play And The Refs Do Not Control It. I Just Hope This Game Lives Up To All Of The Hype. Good Luck Paintsville And Especially Landon Slone. Your A Fine Young Man Nephew And Everyone In Your Family Is Very Proud Of You.

They got beat by the #3 then, does that make them better, being beat or just playing #3? It will be settled one way or the other Tuesday night.

Well....considerin that the 2 wins they got in newyork were against teams that are not even ranked in top 25 of their state and the so called #3 team in the nation(a 34point loss) is ranked 6th in the state of newyork I can't hardly see how they r #3 in the nation. And Male and Desales are out of the running for anything, what is your point?

Maybe if we can get Matt to take them to Hawaii, next year. Probably a couple of decent teams out in Texas we can play to get our resumes up.

Either way it goes it's gonna be a close one I think.....I look for the final score to be both teams somewhere in the 60-70 range--with the winner by less than 10. If the Tigers are hitten though I don't think Valley can answer...but if it is a physical game it may go the other way. I gotta go with my Tigers by 8!

Ok I have wanted to put this off for a long time but I guess it is time to go ahead and take the plunge...
Shelby Valley is a better overall team and has a deeper bench..This could play out to their advantage if it is a physical game and the teams get in foul trouble. If Paintsville gets in foul trouble they are done because they are not very deep..If the refs let the teams play then that would be an advantage for Paintsville. I really like those SV kids that put team play over individuals and I like Paintsville who has the best player in Slone. It is just too confusing to pick so I think they will tie and let both teams go to Rupp and have a sweet 17.........No I guess that wont happen so I will have to pick and I will say Paintsville just because of Slone and their senior leadership and this being BMR last game and all and they wont want him to lose. I think they will play a notch harder and try to take him to Rupp for his last year and if SV does not win they will the next 2 for sure.......

Definitely sure that Valley's schedule hasn't been that much better than Paintsville's, if any. The Tigers have played several good out of area teams. And playing the so-called #3 (which is a debatable point) is not the same as playing with them! SV was blown out of that one!

As for Tuesday, only someone willing to climb way out on a limb would say either team would win for sure! But I like the Tigers play this year and their senior leadership so I'll give them the edge. But either team can win this one. And depending on how the other plays, either team could win by double digits! But I look for a much closer game. The last few times the teams have played (regular season or tourney) I don't think that the margin has been more than a few points one way or the other.

May the best team that shows up Tuesday win! Go Tigers!

I agree. Not what I expected, either. Yeah, I would like to see the Tigers win, jus because of Runyon, and the fact I am a grad, plus I think we (JC) would have a better shot at them than Valley. But I still voted Valley, because I think they will grab about a 12-15 point win. Either way, it's gonna be great. Ive not been this excited over a basketball game since a Paintsville-LexCath Sweet 16 game in the 90's.
My guess is 72-60.

The poll results don't suprise me at all. There has been so much **** talk here all year about strength of schedules and quality loses on theses two teams schedules. I guess people that have heard both sides of the arguement felt compelled to vote. I for one feel Paintsville has nothing to lose. The majority of people on here believe or at least have posted that they believe Shelby Valley is a better team. In retribution the Paintsville fans have voiced their beliefs. So now were at a gut check time, all the bull stops at 8: 15 tonght. Whovere wins this game will definetly Win the region.
I thought it was funny listening to the 'great' WSIP commentators talk about how they hoped Paintsville? Shelby Valley would go into a couple of overtimes and get worn out prior to playing Central. Central had better remember they as well as Paintsville/ Shelby Valley have a game tonight.
