I like Horn as a player, but my opinion, I think it's quite a stretch to say they are both better than Rode, based on past performance.

There is no one in SC lineup 1-9 that is better than Rodebaugh. He is a great hitter.

I agree with Richardson but how can you leave two freshman from last years team, one that hit around .400 and the other who was mid .300, and did I say they were only freshman last year? You have to put Taylor Smith and Jeremy Stacy on this list somewhere!

You can put them on your list? We're talking about best in the region, not the best on their team. And I just don't think those two are among the best. I'm not saying the ones I have listed are the only good hitters in the region, but they were the only ones that came to mind at the time.

The truth is Stacy is probably Central's best hitter. Chase and Taylor both had great season's though.

Well Kimball you know more about their program than I do, but I was basing my opinion on what I seen out of them last year. I only seen them play about 6 or 7 games and seem like Stacy was more of a dead pull hitter and was almost too aggresive at the plate, and I know he hit on down the lineup from Chase. I just felt like Chase was more of a complete hitter out of what I seen.

In fact he may be the best in the region at going the opposite way. I cant think of anybody better at it around here anyways. He amazed me as an 8th grader with his ability to take a curve ball to right against varsity pitching, (and batted in the 2 hole by the way) as an 8th grader. His stats suffered a little last year, because he was injured early in the season and I dont think ever really got back on track (to his standards anyway). He absolutely wore the cover off the ball in summer play though. He'll be the one you are talking about when the season gets in high gear.

Alright well I look forward to seeing him hit then. I know last year he wasn't in the 2 hole though. He was hitting in the 5, 6, or 7 spot one I can't remember how far past Richardson he was. I only seen him against some really good teams and he didn't do much. I seen him pull a couple of outside breaking pitches and groundout. Therefore, I assumed he was a dead pull hitter.

I can name quite a few good hitters that are only 8th graders and freshmen... I won't however list them until I get a chance to see how they are doing this upcoming year....

Stacy is a good kid, and has potential to be amoung the top in the region but I wouldn't go quite that far with him yet, that is to say that he is the best in the region at going opposite field...I don't think that is true..he may be the best that JCHS has at hitting to opposite field but I can think of a couple more that have proven themselves in the region, that aren't dead pull hitters and they are both on my list........I saw stacy a couple of times this past summer and I do agree that he should be good this season. probably hitting in the 3 hole for jchs.

Stacy may be the best hitter but was way behind Taylor Smith, Aaron Haney, Chase Richardson & Mike Conley who all hit around a 100 points better than him. One would think that these 3 returning starters may fair pretty well but I hope they all have stellar seasons at the plate.

Just looking at The Big Sandy news leaderboard from last year and using it for some consideration...The Top hitters in the 15th IMO are(in no particular order):
Seniors-Josh Rodebaugh- Pburg,Scott Little-Ac,Corey Humphrey-Paintsville,Timmy Hayes-LCHS, and Shane Grimm-Paintsville
Juniors-Corey Adams-Paintsville,Josh Prater-Ac
Sophmores-Logan Crowder-Ac,Chad Nelson-Ac,Jeremy Stacy-JCHS,Taylor Smith-JCHS
Not to sure on the Freshman class though...but IMO these are the top hitters in each class.

If you list Humphrey you have to list Vanhoose and Ison. Possibly Lyons(very maybe though). Also LC has a lot more better hitters than just Hayes. Cyrus, Laney, Shepherd. You don't even have Richardson on here from JCHS. Not too mention way too many AC players. Most of your good hitters in ther region come from your best teams. Mainly because they are competing against better competition. Sometimes stats won't reflect that because they do play the hard schedules, and with that said some of the players you have listed have played less than mediocre schedules so their stats will be high because of that. If you take a Paintsville or a Lawrence County team and let them hit against pitchers who throw 70 MPH 3 times a week then I bet they have their entire lineup hitting over .400.

Knockoutking made it clear- he was basing his opinions on the Big Sandy Leader Board. I'm looking at the one from April 27, 07 and many of the names you mention are not on the list. That is not to say these are not good or even great players- but the source BSN doesn't have them listed on their LeaderBoard.

You can't base your opinons on the BSN! Most of they year they had 4 Magoffin County players listed at the top. You think they are the best hitters in the region? No! Thats based on a number. What I base mine on is opponents and what kind of pitchers they face. If you wnat to take someone who playes the bottom of the barrel in the 15th every year and hits over .400, go ahead. But i'll take someone who plays the best teams in the state year in and year out and still hit around .400. Those are where your best hitters in the state come from.

Grimm and adams for paintsville were both good opposite field hitters last season. both hit over .400 with a couple of opposite field homers between them.
I'm not saying that you are totally wrong, I just don't think stacy was there as of last season...Maybe this year?

In defense of Kimball I think he did state that he was basing it on what he was projecting him to do this season. He admittedly said that last year wasn't a good year for him, but I will agree with you "INSIGHT" that Adams and Grimm both were better at going opposite field, especially last season. They both had great years. Adams will be definete college material and Grimm already is, but I think his is more as a pitcher than a hitter.

Yea i think Stacey from JC will produce alot more on offince than anyone this season. But I think Corey Adams, and Shane Grimm from Paintsville will be among the best hitters IMO. Im not aware of any one else but i think LC has a few good hitters.

LC has two extremely good hitters. Timmy Hayes who committed to Louisville, and also Jeff Cyrus. I think overall Paintsville will have the best hitters though.

Tyler Dotson is in the top 5 atleast IMO.
Hitting homeruns and being a good hitter are two different things. I know alot of great hitters who never hit homeruns. Corey Adams, Humphrey, etc. More great hitters that I personally would put above Dotson are...Hayes(LC), Cyrus(LC), Grimm(Paintsville), Rodebaugh(P-burg), Richardson(JC), Stacy(JC), Vanhoose(Paintsville), Laney(LC). These aren't any particular order, but other than those I would say Dotson would be in there somwhere.

HEY.....I'm not bashing Kimball...simply stating MY OPINION
My Reasoning on grimm is that he seems to go to opposite field a lot...
Stacy should be a good hitter for jchs...

IMO, Bobby Hughes from P-Burg is very solid hitter. He hit a homerun in last years district tournament and could really do alot of good for Prestonsburg this year.

No I don't believe he is, i've seen him play a couple of times last season and I wasn't impressed with him that much. But you have to answer the question of, "Where was the district at last year?" If it was at a field such as maybe Allen Central then I could see alot of people hitting some homeruns. Homeruns don't mean a whole lot, anybody can get lucky and get good wood on the ball one time, consistenly doing it is what makes you a good hitter. Now if you told me he hit .400 like i've noticed it seems like everybody did last year, then he may be legite but I just don't know based on what I seen out of him.

LC does have some great hitters this year. Some of the boys have been hitting the balls out of the field like crazy! paintsville does have some great hitters too. I can't wait to see these two teams play.

LC's batting line up so far goes:

2. Dustin Kingsmore
3. Timmy Hayes
4. Jeff Cyrus
5.Lewis Michaels
I am pretty sure this is how it was.
