View Full Version : Billy G has a better SEC record than Tubby - why the hate?

BCG has (so far) accumulated an SEC win/loss record of 11-4. Keep in mind we still have Florida tomorrow.
Last year Tubby went 9-7 in the SEC.
Why are there still Gillispie-haters out there?

I dont know, He has a horrible team and its his 1st year and you cant expect him to do better than what he has. Now if he is still 17-11 in about 2 or 3 years then Ill get worried.

Because there are a lot of "fans" who will never be satisfied with anything. They didn't like Tubby, they don't like BCG and they won't like whoever follows Gillispie.

The thing I don't like about Billy G is he does not get into the game he stands there with the same smile on his face and claps no matter what happens I'm not a Billy G hater though I think he is doin good so far and will do better in the future but when Tubby coached he ran up and down the sideline screamin to let you know you messed he was into the game

I don't know what you've been watching but Billy G definitely has no problem showing his anger at his team's poor performance when he has to.

I agree. At the beginning of the season he was standing and smiling, but that was because he was telling the players to do one thing and they were doing their own thing. It was a "you'll learn eventually" type of smile.
Now, anytime they have a timeout or someone gets subbed in, you can usually see him chewing out one of the players.
I think at the beginning of the season the players had to learn for themselves. They had to realize that if they didn't listen to coach they were going to lose to teams like Gardner-Webb.

It doesn't matter who comes and coaches at UK, nobody will ever be Rick Pitino. He is a God in Lexington.

Even through all the tough teams this team went through at the early part of the season with losses to Gardner-Webb, San Diego teams like that, I still had faith in G and this team. Even though I talked bad about them (and who didnt) I still believed in them and had a gut feeling that they would turn it around. Despite the Vandy loss they have been the turn around team of the year IMO. To get 11 hopefully 12 wins in the SEC is very tough to do and with the players that we have it is awesome to think that Gillispie is coaching, he gets the best out of these guys and it has shown.

I love Gillispie..and I have supreme confidence that he will have UK back on top soon. Gillispie has willed 17 wins out of this team. Everybody on the team was whining and crying because he was tough on them early on, has bought into his style and instead of out-finessing teams (like the last 7 or 8 years), they are playing physical basketball and winning. I think he has the perfect attitude and character for this job. Yeah a lot has been made about him and the bar scene, but personally, I like somebody with a little personality. Anybody thinking before the year that this team had a chance to go to the final four or the national championship needs to rethink their decision to quit going to AA meetings and step back into the real world. This team is one of the least talented teams (probably bottom 3 or 4) in the entire SEC, yet are 11-4, and came 3 points of beating the number one team on their court...without their best player. Gillispie has recruited relentlessly, getting the RIGHT people in the right positions, rather than recruiting 19 6'6 shooting guards and making a whole team out of them. But yes, he will always have haters and doubters, and no matter how well he will end up doing, he will have people questioning his every move. He is definitely committed to winning, and is ensuring the future of our beloved team by looking to the future. No, nobody will ever be Rick Pitino, but UK could only go up from the 13-19 disaster he inherited. He done a remarkable, almost unbelievable job of getting UK back to the top, but how soon people forget that it took him 7 seasons to win a national championship. Rome wasnt built in a day, and he done what Billy Clyde is doing now. He is recruiting nonstop, for the future of the program, taking his lumps the first year, and is giving everybody heads up on what to expect. Kentucky will be back, and will soon be the team nobody wants to schedule or face at anytime during the season or tournament. They will fill the rosters with incredible athletes, fill Rupp Arena to the hilt and become America's team again. Long live Billy Gillispie, and long live Kentucky basketball!

Maybe if John Pelphrey or Travis Ford become the next coach and REALLY dominate then one of them might equal or surpass Rick. He was a popular coach no doubt about it.

If either one of those guys were the coach and if they had one bad season, it would be that exact same thing. You would have those calling for their heads as well.

Ill be the first to admit it....when we lost alot of games at the begining of the season ill lost faith in Billy G....but since sec conferance play started and he just keeps on finding ways to win i am now a believer in his system. there is no doubt in my mind that were gonna win a nationtal champship in the next couple of years, he just works to hard as a coach and to me fits the profile of a UK coach...and im happy to say hes my coach for the wildcats....

Those "fans" are not true UK fans!!!
They may be true "fans" but truely iggnorant "fans". CBC has done one of the most fantastic jobs turning players around, developing sub-par talent and coaching a team with an injury to its best scorer, to a 2nd place finish in the SEC. I do not know how he got CO-Coach of the year in the SEC when the Coach that it is shared with has a team that was expected to be in this position and when Billy freakin out-coached the guy in both of their head to head games.
Anyways, I don' t know if anyone still thinks he is not the right hire but as for me I am completely satisfied with his performance this year.

Give him two more years and he could be BETTER than Pitino! I mean just look at the turn around of the program in a half season.

I agree he's done a wonderful job. You can't take that away from him. What i'm getting at is he would have to be here for about 10 years and win about 3 to 4 championships before people of Lexington would be satisfied with not getting Pitino back or Donovan. Because they considered Donovan just an extension of Pitino.
