I believe if people would come and watch this sport the fan base would really grow. Used to people taught girls could only get a scholarship by playing basketball. Volleyball has came along way since it started in eastern Ky and will grow more if the fans will just come and watch it. Its a fast pace game and has very athletic girls and maybe the best high school girls sport going.

I like watching volleyball.(and not just cause the girls wear short shorts) I get into the matches like I do a b-ball game.

If people will comeout and discover that they are not playing church yard ball.
And local college are starting to recruit, now is the time for young girls to strive in this sport.

Could not agree more Doc. And the job some of the fifteen region coaches do deserves a drink. Maybe they can borrow your flask.

I saw where South Floyd took a fan bus to the Regional, that is first at the school for any girls sport. I think that the more fans show up the more they will like it.

I play volleyball myself and I agree it is a fast growing sport. My team had a really great season this year and I'd like to see us have an even better one next year. The loss of a coule of our good players will bring us down a little but I think that next year's crew will be just as good.

losing key players will hurt your team but that just allows for someone to step up. Work harder in the off season and you gals should be fine and best of luck.

I'll take that to heart littlej. I love playing the sport. To me there's nothing better that being out on the court playing to the best of my ability and beating my opponents. I can't wait for the season to get here, it'll go by way too fast since it'll be my senior year and all but overall that only makes me want to work harder.

I think they should stop discriminating and let guys have volleyball teams, but I think the only reason they don't is because they know the guys would get watched more then the girls, just like in every other sport in the world.

How is it discrimination? I don't think so...same thing as girls playing football and not powderpuff and standing on the sidelines doesn't count...since when do you ever see a highschool team with a girl actually out on the field playing herself? Maybe when that starts happening then maybe they'll think about boys volleyball. As for right now all I can say is wait until college, some schools offer a Boys program for volleyball. And if the girls are better than the boys then I don't see why the boys would get watched more. Doesn't most guys come to the game to see girls in tight, short shorts? At leats that's the reason I've always heard.

pikeville will suffer next year in volleyball...they loose alot of seniors, but one person that they wont miss is TYLER VINSON....she made more errors then she did help...pikeville will do alright with returning starter lindsey cross

Since it isn't offered as a male sport....I'm sure that if someone wanted to fight it then they would be allowed to play.

They are allowed to stand on the sidelines. I have yet to see a girl actually get in the game and actually get to play like the guys do...around here anyway. If you want to play volleyball so bad to go to Board and ask them to offer it as a boys sport!

volleyball is quite possible the worst sport in this regionvolleyball isnt the worst sport!! It takes a lot of hard work and dedication....I would like to see half the athletes around here try and play the sport by all the rules. They would be in for a rude awakening...SO when you actually get out there and play the sport by all rules and regulations, then we'll talk! :!:

Volleyball isnt as bad as everyone puts it out 2 be.. Just b/c 1/2 the ppl dont understand the rules and everything doesnt give them the right to dog the game.

your right...and wrong...alot of people dont give volleyball credit because they do not understand the rules. But they arent that hard to understand. At pikeville we play v-ball everyday in gym class and its fun, and i think we could almost take any body in our district in volleyball, even our own varsity team. I suppose they could get a little more credit though...

Sorry to break it to ya but volleyball is the up and coming sport...if you haven't noticed alot of colleges started giving volleyball scholarships so it's starting to be quite the sport. I'm with spiker_chic...good luck to the Lady Raiders...I think y'all will do just fine this year...

the key to any sport is what you do in the off season.
The harder one works, in the weight room, conditioning, training, pickup games, drills, it is the little things that helps a team on down the road.
DTfan
02-20-2005, 01:37 AM
then in that case SF will be in trouble because I don't think any of the returning players have been in the weight room or much less run or anything as cold as it's been. Just about every girls o that team has something else on her mind during the off season...except one I know for sure...but she never has time to do anything.

SF will not be in trouble...Are girls are very good about gettin back in shape and ready for the season when it comes to conditioning and camps and traning...some of the girls have jobs and stuff during the off season and can only work out when they can...I know of 2 girls (seniors/starters) that have worked out when they can. Volleyball is becoming more popular. dont diss it...

I wasn't dissing the sport or SF's team. I was just stating my opinion, I haven't seen anyone do much of anything...that doesn't mean that they haven't. I think SF will have a pretty good team this year as long as they don't let pride and ego's get in the way of how they interact with one another and how they play as a team...that goes for ANY team.

East Ridge lost a lot of good players this year. They had quite a few seniors this year. Next year they will have one returning starter, shes a setter, They will also have Earline Matney coming back to serve. She could definitely get the aces. She was a setter during the JV games, I dont know what position she will hold next year.. They will also have Candie Chaffins, I think this was her first year of playing. She actually got a lot of playing time. Her inexperience held her back this year, but I think that next year with some practice, she will be a key part of that team because they dont have anyone who can hit very well. The success of this team will be determined by whoever the new coach will be, but talking with the ER athletic director, they havent started looking, but thats no surprise considering Mr. Kilgore doesnt care about the girls programs.
