The teams in this district are a combined 24-43 prestonsburg is the only team with a winning record with 12 wins ( six of those wins aganist the three other teams in the 58th) These schools get no support from the school board, they have almost no facilities. I don't see any program getting better except maybe prestonsburg. I have seen three of these teams show up for games with only 10-12 players. It really looks bad for Floyd county. Can anyone give me any hope of this improving?

Floyd County has had some tremendous talent and a few good coaches come through the area, but the county has never emphasized the sport. Very little has been put into the sport and therefore very little has been accomplished. It's sad as well, because the county has so much potential to have great baseball facilities. So many kids are missing opportunities to play at a high level because the focus is so terrible.

Maybe with the new superintendant though, baseball will be on a rise in the county. We'll see. I certainly would like to see it become better because it has potential to be as good as the Pikeville or Paintsville programs. The little league teams there used to be very competitive years ago. The HAP (?) team and the Beaver Creek teams used to field very good little league squads.

The facilities and administrative support in Floyd County are awful; with expection of the new facility at Prestonsburg (which was funded with money from the fiscal court). The same fiscal court that took more than 2 weeks to replace/repair the restroom faciliites at Stumbo Park. Vandals went in to the restroom and set the toilet seats on fire. Baseball is not a revenue producing sport in Floyd County and apparently that is all that matters.

That is how it is in every county. The facilities may be nicer in other counties, but that same attitude is still there. It doesn't make any money so most of the money goes into football and basketball, but that's the way it will always be.

I agree... basketball, football, volleyball, and other sports that charge an admission fee are the ones that are going to get nice equipment and all that. Prestonsburg recently got a very nice stadium/practice facility, although I don't know were the funding come from but it would be nice to see the Floyd County BOE fund some money to Stumbo Park and Drift Park. I'm pretty confident that Henry Webb will, in do time, get baseball back on the map in Floyd County.

The fields at Stonecrest are owned and operated by the city of Prestonsburg. The fields/facilities were funded with money from the Floyd County Fiscal Court. The Prestonsburg High School Baseball Boosters built/funded the building at the HS field (3rd base line).

The Little League programs in Floyd County usually field some pretty good squads in area all-star play in the summer. I remember, not too long ago, the Beaver Creek 15-16 year old team made the Junior League State Tournament and if I'm not mistaken, made a pretty good showing. HAP, Beaver Creek, and P'Burg all have excellent little leagues, but for one reason or another, these kids don't play baseball in high school. They tend to focus more on basketball and football. Allen Central has had some pretty good teams recently, and the team this year is very young, the same goes for Prestonsburg, they seem to be competitive every year, but youth seems to be their issue as well. (I don't know much about Betsy Layne). It's a shame to see the county not care hardly anything about baseball, because the talent is their in the little league systems, but once they reach high school, it's like EVERYONE just stops caring.
