Prestonsburg junior-to-be, Michael Burchett has drawn alot of interest from the staff at Austin Peay. Micheal recently took an unofficial visit this past weekend.
This kid has been busting his butt off every since the season ended, going to the gym each day to shoot and work out, he has also been practicing for football. Very mature kid for his age, great work ethic, and most of all he is very intelligent. I wish nothing but the best for this young man.
Congrats Mike!

This is great news for Burchett. Also good news for eastern Kentucky basketball.
I saw Prestonsburg play and I am not sure which was Burchett. Was he a guard /forward/center?

Burchett played forward this past season, he was #3. He was the teams 2nd leading
scorer & rebounder.

I have coached against Michael for the past three years and will coach against him again this year. He is a good kid with a high sports IQ. I enjoy watching him play the game because you can tell from his play that the game means so much to him. He is a competitor that does not fear and I wish him the best of luck.

I agree, that pretty much sums up the way he looks and feels about the game.
Alot of people will recognize Michael this upcoming season because he will be playing the point. I think that its a really good move by the staff at Prestonsburg, he should do fine at that position, it will also give him a chance to create for himself if no one else is getting open.

If he becomes a better ball-handler, there may be better schools than Austin Peay looking at this young man.

Ok, this is amazing...Burchette is no shape, form, or fashion a d-1 player...he is about 6'2, with mediocre ball-handling skills and a little better than average shooter...Being from the mountains doesn't help either..I have watched basketball in the 14th,15th, and 16th region for many years and I have seen many better players not go division 1...Just a thought!

First of all he is just a sophomore (junior-to-be), no he hasn't been held back for athletics like other standouts in his grade, and how does being from the mountains hurt anything? Thats what AAU is for, to see what he can against much more talented players. Austin Peay and other schools must see some sort of potential in him for them to show interest.
But you and others will see what kind of a player he is now that there isn't anymore selfish players on the team.

Wow, will we? You seem to know his capabilities pretty well. Maybe even too well..I wish him all the luck in the world..I never said he was a bad player, but I can assure you that I've seen better. Is he the best player on his team? Just a question, does he compare to 1. Elisha Justice 2. Ashley Hatfield 3. Tate Cox 4. Josh Whitaker 5. Cody Parker(Soph. to be from JCHS)...These guys are d-1 prospects..With the exception of Parker from Central, if he can grow a few more inches, he will be too..

I'm not going to argue with you, he finally has a coach that can mentor him and turn him into a really good player, and no he isn't on the same level as Justice, Whitaker, etc. but he has the potential to be.

Well, Michael Burchett is a very good scorer on the baseline. Once he gets the ball inside 18 feet on the baseline, he is hard to stop.

I can't wait to see this kid by the time he's a senior. His best basketball is still ahead of him and he has alot of potential and most important is that he has a great work ethic.
