South Floyd Volleyball

What does everyone think about the upcoming South Floyd Volleyball Team...with the loss of seniors Candice Hall, Tab Tackett and Sabrina Reid...how does everyone think they'll do this upcoming season?

I see the loss of Reid and Hall really hurting becuase of the leadership on the floor, Tackett was a big key But the Castle girl should be able to fill that spot and more. South floyd will need some of the JV players from last year step up. they have some good young players that are very capable but need to get stronger and the mind set that they are going to fill them spots and help this team go farther. i look for SF to come out of the District along with Ac and make a good showing in the regional.

I agree littlej. SF has had a awesome jv the past couple seasons, if I'm not mistaking...undefeated or very close at, at any rate the Raider jv has done exceptionally well in the past. I see that as playing a big factor for the upcoming season. I know for a fact that one of the returning players has been working very hard during the off season to prepare for next year.

xtreme3 I am glad to here that I know SF coaching staff pretty well and he informed me the workout program that the girls will be on is going to be hard and will push the girls to the limit. girls just need to take advantage of their opportunities and push themselves.

Well in that case then I guess I better add about 30 more when jumping rope, run a little bit farther and espically keep my knee up to par. Defintally don't want it acting up again.

hey the way I see it...pour it on! We went to regionals this year, I believe that we can go a little bit farther next year and btw if I have it my way...we WON'T be runner-up in the district and we WILL dominate B.L if it's the last thing I do!

They return two all area players in Setter leslie Holbrook and Middle Megan Castle, and outside hitter Katy Cook was there leading scorer. I feel they will surprise some teams. Its time for some JV player to grow up and take it to a new level.

Stehanie Fraley was a pretty good player for the middle school, maybe she'll return to the court next saeson

Steph was a real good middle school players and would help the team next season. Couple things she needs to know is the game moves quicker and it is harder then middle school. I believe if she goes to team camp with them and works hard I see no problem with her catching up on what see missed by not playing her freshmen year.

I agree with littlej. Steph would make a great addition to the their team. I know a girl that transfered in her Sophmore year and was completely lost and by going to the team camp the following summer, she was caught up and knew what was going on. This year however, I hear that she might not be able to attend the team camp because of a summer program at Pikeville College so hopefully that won't put her too far behind.

The only thing that will really hurt this young lady is that her time away might get her a little behind if anything new is added at camp but already knowing the system will help her.

Alright, I'll be sure to let her know. I know that she was very worried about that. Although, she has told me that depending on when the team camp falls she may be able to go, thing is she can only miss one day of the program and still be elgiable to stay and get the money at the end so that's concerning her also.

I think SF is returning some very good players and will lose some with the graduating players. I look for some of the young women from the JV team to really step up after the expirence of last year. Look for big things from the ladies on the court. The coaching staff at sf has really done the job to get this program going and having that winning attitude. Keep it up, I look for a rich tradition in the sport for years to come.

Steph's got the fighting spirit of her dad gentlemen, you can count on that. Also she was to be a great baseball player a few years ago when she played pee wee ball. I'd say with some work she'd make a fine little softball player. But I guess that would be another thread to talk about.

I'm glad that everyone think's that the SF Volleyball team will do good next season, as for Steph...I'm surprised she didn't come out and play this year...I'm excited to see who all will come out next year!

I think that South Floyd is going to do awesome in the up-coming year. With one of the best, if not the best setter in the region in Leslie holbrook and the dominate back middle player in Megan Castle, not to mention Katie Cook, they should be a very dominate force in the Region next year. I look for them to make a lot of noise. Good luck next year girls and Coach Little and Coach Smallwood!! Make us proud!

Well for starters...shut up! Don't get on here and diss this team. They have improved greatly since the program first started at South Floyd. If you care so much about Pikeville Volleyball then make a thread and talk about it on there...not on here!

I agree Pikeville volleyball is the best right now everyoone is 0-0.
I think Sf volleyball players are lazy and need to become serious and put forth the same amount of drive as last years seniors did from 1-15 on the team. So hope you girls work as hard as I think you will, then you will have a good season. Just going around the school do not see many putting in any extra off season work on their own. :D

Pikeville is pretty good but sf has improved much more....they will need some extra work with the loss of a few good seniors..but i do know of some players that are starting to work out right now to start getting ready ..so overall this up coming season should be just as good as the last. sf players are pumped and ready to get back on the court. :P :idea:

sounds good #13,#15 whatever, but takes more then just a couple of players to make a TEAM and i know that is what the SF volleyball program is all about and is why they are turningthe coner in that sport.

Sorry but I did not think their JV team was any good last year. It was just everyones elses were poor as well. It will be a long year for them if they think that the Jv from last year will help them JMO.

SF's JV team has went undefeated the last two years. The teams they have played in those two years have been good and there has been some close games but the SF JV just knows how to pull it together and play as a team and that's what really counts in the end. I think the JV team from last eyar will help alot because thery have some good JV players moving up.

Their record has been 18-3 last year and 17-4 the year before. those are great records but jv is not varsity and these players will have to work hard to help the varsity and i do not think they will have a choice but to work hard.

South Floyd is losing a lot of good player, but we still have 3 starters coming back and JV players stepping up like Tiffany Tackett and Kasey Elkins...We will dominate this year just like we did last year...and BL here we come!!! Once again only two players that'll be stepping up is getting credit. Sure all of next years seniors were on varsity this year but c'mon people not being disrespectful or anything but there'sa more than just Kasey and Tiffany stepping up for next year! Megan, Katie and Leslie are good but you can't play with only three people. Man, conditioning hasn't veen started yet and I can already tell that alot of people are gonna get left out and only select ones are gonna get the credit for everything, if it all starts to turn out the way it's looking I know one girl that WONT be playing!

DTfan, there will be no need for quiting or not playin because all the girls will get credit for everything they do, Our seniors have good leadership and will give everyone the credit they deserve. We will be dominate next year and for the people who are lookin down on us are gonna be suprised and are in for a big suprise :D

I was, I must admit a bit taken back when I saw that someone had heard Keith Smallwood was not hired back as Coach for the Lady Raiders volleyball team. This team has made great strides under the leadership of Coach Smallwood and his assistant John Little. I believe that if this info was correct I might possibly would have caught wind of it before being on the site about Him not returning. That would be left up to him and I don't remember hearing anything from the people that know him well. They experienced their best season this year and won over 20 for the first time in school history. He also had a couple that are going away on scholarships which seems to be a nice statement about the girls efforts and the coaching staff's willingness to follow up on contacts to help players that are eager to keep playing after high school. I just about guarantee Coach K will return and all for the better for the girls that play.

I've also heard that he wasn't going to be coaching because of the rule that they were going to start enforcing but I don't see them taking Coach Smallwood's or Coach Little's jobs after the imrovement's they have made in the program.

Coach Smallwood just confirmed that he and coach Little wil both be back for the 05-06 V-ball season. Thats good to hear. They both have done a terrific job with the program and I'm glad to hear they will be returing next season!!!

I agree 100% spiker_chic. If we all work as hard as I think we're going to this season will be better than last years. We're going to have to put alot of hours being in the gym to win regionals but it'll all be worth it!

DTFAN, you said you did not play but where aggervated that Kim was not being mentioned and that she would not be there if the team keep her in the shadows. I can tell you are not part of this team because that is what it is unlike a lot of other sports its a TEAM and the coaches make sure of that. They had around 5 seniors last year that hardly saw the court and how many of them quit 0 says something about the team. Yes I know who you are talking about and the team wants her to step up like she can. but by already hearing so called friends say this stuff is not a way to help. If you are a friend say so and support her and not make excuses. I have seen her play the last two years on jv and she has made big improvement since coming from BL and hope she continues the hard work.

I do support Kim...she knows I do and I support the Lady Raiders as a team. What they have accomplished since the program has started is unbelieveable but not impossible with the talent, dedication and players like SF has. I wish them the best of luck this coming season. Umm...big man...that's the difference between the volleyball team and the boys basketball team. Win the boys win they all get the big head and usually blow the next one and lose...the Volleyball team however, doesn't get the big head they take it one game at a time and in the end come out with an awesome season. I guess well see who's right...

SF volleyball will be good this year....Nobody is giving us to much confidence or makin us get the big head. We get our confidence from ourselves, our teammates, and our coaches. We know what we can do, and were gonna work extra hard this year to do more and get to the next level. Just because we lost a lot of good seniors doesnt mean we dont have more coming up. Were gonna have great seniors this year and more JV players stepping up, not just tiffany tackett and kasey elkins, we have much more that after camp and more prac will be much better :P
