I've actually put like $3000 in the bank but what does this do? What's it's purpose?

It prevents you from being rob by a theif. This will become important especially when we get BGR merchandise ready.

You get points for posting and other things. You can reserve some points by putting them in the bank. The points in the bank are safe because people can use the Theif! option and try to steal points from you. The points can be used to buy stuff for your username and later on BGR merchandise will be available.

Hmm...I have like 3000 in the bank right now...I may go ahead and deposit what other points I have...lol...no one is gonna theif them from me! (*Balla*)
