Belfry, what can I say....

Defense - you guys played your hearts out tonight. You guye were worn out, but you reached down inside and did'nt quit...That shows heart and determination....Thank You !!!

Offense - Dustin, Matt, Corey, Jordan....and the O-line you gave us a great ballgame guys. You guys believed we could do it and did not lay down for anyone...Thank You !!!

first off i will say great game by matt dotson and the rest of the o-line tonight, they made holes open up all night long. middlesboro played one heck of a game tonight and they have nothing to be ashamed of, a few plays go thier way and they leave pond creek with a win. congratulations belfry and good luck next week, you will be facing a tough team that has improved every week since you met them last, they will be fired up for sure, hope you boys can match the intensity you are sure to be facing when hager and his cardinals come to town.

Was anyone else a little scared at some of the things we witnessed tonight or was it just me?

Don't get me wrong, I am extremely proud of our boys tonight, but Middlesboro did find some weakness in the Pirate team. It was a victory that was fought for and down to the 4th quarter I have to say.

The Pirates are proving that the old saying "We don't rebuild, we reload" is true. I'm sure that no one gave us a chance at getting this far this season, but the Pirates never listened.

Congratulations to Coach Haywood and the players for another Belfry win!!!

I had to work so I listened to this one on the radio. I did not know if they would pull it out in the first quarter. Glad they did. I hope that the game with Sheldon Clark will end the same way that it did the first time in regular season play. Good Luck Belfry.

the main thing that worries me was several players on defense didnt seem to have thier heads in the game, way to many mental mistakes on that side of the ball, i was amazed at how well middlesboro did RUNNING the ball. im sure haywood will address these issues this week though.

I almost forgot to mention that there were some Prestonsburg kids at the game last night on Belfry's side. I love to see area kids supporting each other when it's all said and done.

That's what it is all about. Sometimes the kids themselves act more mature than the adults.

Do you think the fumbles were caused by the weather last night? Why didn't Haywood use some of the passing routes he has been working on this season? Who do you think are the leaders of this team. Any answers?

matt maynard is the unquestioned leader of this team on both sides of the ball, he is a playmaker, there is also some senior leadership on the line as well. no doubt these boys have set the example for the underclassmen to follow, to be as successful as they have been this year after the major losses to graduation last year shows a ton of heart, dedication and pride. whether we get to louisville or not, this years pirates have proven themselves to be winners.

I agree with that. I think that there are some weak underclassmen that need to get a little more aggressive. It's time to untie the apron strings and quit being mama's boys. Hit someone or go home. Just my opinion.

Very sloppy game in a lot of aspects and if we play Friday how we played tonight then us Belfry fans will be sitting on the couch watching sports overtime show us highlights of SC vs. Russell. WAYYYYYY too many fumbles and defensive mistakes in assignments and tackling.

On a bright note when our running backs were holding onto the football they looked downright unstoppable tonight! Huge games by all three, and Phillips had a nice carry or two as well. The line was doing a great job. I also liked the fact that we kept our composure against a team that wouldn't go away... even when M-boro had all the momentum we were still the agressors.

i agree with that whole heartedly, i would never call out any teams boys individually, but there were some of our boys on defense that looked like they didnt know there was a game going on, it was very scary, i agree with o-spi as wee, step it up guys or we will be at the house for semi-finals.:bigeyed:

Belfry & Prestonsburg is mortal enemies, but when one of us is out in the playoffs , the other gets behind the winner....

They were stoppable on the goal line and being 2 yards out. That wasn't pretty. I think that May should have gotten that handoff and we would have been another TD up. I did like the discipline to not quit when the momentum shifted. That is a postive. It also sounded like they kept their tempers in check a few times. Another positive.

Maynard was Maynard.... he was everywhere and made some huge plays. I don't know exact stats but he returned a punt 55 yards for a TD and had TD runs of 59 and 46 yards respectively. So he prolly had 150+ total yards tonight and as always he was very consistent on defense.

Unless something drastic happens, after next week all three Belfry backs will be over the 1000 yard mark for the year. Going into the Middlesboro game Chapman had rushed for 1,029, Maynard for 829, and May for 853. May should be right at the 1,000 yard mark and Maynard around 50 or so yards away.

Also, heading into the Middlesboro game this was the Belfry backs per carry average:
Chapman- 14.9 Yards Per Carry!!!! He is also averaging a touchdown every 5.8 carries!
Maynard- 9.3 yards per carry, a touchdown every 5.2 carries!
May- 7.2 yards per carry, a touchdown every 9.8 carries.

So for every 20 carries this backfield is averaging 3 TD's!
Belfry's three backs had rushed for 2,711 yards in 11 games.... an average of 247 yards per game. As a collective group with 276 total carries they have averaged a staggering 9.8 yards per carry.

That is impressive stats. I haven't kept up with them as much as the last four years. Still impressive coming from that many underclassmen.
