D is a closer call, but I still take Howard.
Both players really stepped up their D when their running wasn't as stand outish as normal. Thats a true sign of will to win, if you ask me.

Jones went D-1 on defense if i remember correctly.. But as far as running back I would rather have doug 5 to 1

I'm gonna say Doug is relatively short, really white, and a helluva football player.
And the 2nd best football player to where Belfry Red & White. The 1st is former NFLer Rick Kestner, but he wasn't the only Pirate to go pro.

If i would have to pick I would say Howard! I love the running speed Jones has, but you got to pick Howard because of his stiff arm and he is like running through a brick wall :!: :!:

Doug Howard. He's really good, and if I remember correctly didnt the blackcats hold jones to like 1 yard on...several carries...
Howard is better....

I would have to say Doug howard. He has the moves and speed to just break anyone down. David jones was also a heck of a running back. Both were very talented and very hard workers. But good luck to both as they take a step forward in their careers. Both as state back to back state champs. What more could you ask for?

And Back-to-Back State Finals MVPs.
Jones - 2003 (29-202 & 4 TDs)
Howard - 2004 (32-278 & 3 TDs) Record for rushing yards in a State Finals

Howard, hands down....... Jones is easy to stop (or so we thought after the first game) put a LB outside the DE and tell him to crash outside every play, and that's how you hold jones to 1 yard in a game, lol, howard on the other hand, there pretty much is no way to stop him, all you can do is try to slow him down, and that's just as hard.

Doug he is stronger and almost as fast

Howard by far...he is much stronger, runs much harder, and has much more heart. Jones can't take a hit. He got hurt and had to be taken out like 3 times every game. Even coaches from Matewan where Jones went before Belfry said that he couldn't take a hit.

Jones can take some hard hits and he can also give some hard hits.

I would take Doug Howard. He stepped up in the big games and can play both sides of the ball better!

They were both good, but I loved to watch Doug play. He played the game the way it was supposed to. Hard nosed and never quit. A lot of heart in that young man.

Both were great and I'm sure anyone would love to have them both on any team. However, neither is in high school now and their time has passed and this thread has no business still being open...Therefore....CLOSED.
