Why are you so mad about me cheering for my team and asking all the non beilveres. As much as you want to deny it Magoffin has gotten Better. Bl beat them last year by 13+ points and by 2 on a last second shot last year. This years so far Magoffin has beaten Wolfe county (scrimmage) Leslie (scrimmage) and now Betsy Layne. MC knew how to score against BL's defense, whereas BL came out after halftime and looked like they didn't have a clue of what to do. BL's team seems to consist of too many hot-headed attitudes, who desperately need crucial discipline, which could make them a better team in the end. I think a lack of skill in the coaching department of BL definitely made their contribution to their loss.

I will agree with you on the coaching department, or should I say the lack of. Brent Rose just got out coached again. Why in the world would you start fouling at almost 4 minutes left in the game and only down by 6? That makes no sense to me. The first half of the game BL pressed Magoffin and the Hornets couldn't even get the ball down the floor and Brent decides to not press at all in the 2nd half. I don't know who you are referring to about the hot heads though. I think that they play real good team ball, this is a very unselfish group of boys. BL just couldn't get any shots to fall.
Magoffin also has some good ball players, I can see a huge improvement also.

After all of this hype about BL being so great I am very surprised by this score. I knew Magoffin Co. would be tough this year. Their coach is a total hard *** which is a good thing for a basketball team. They are very quick and are gonna give some teams major problems. Look out for the Hornets. And as for BL, after this loss, they are gonna get in the gym and work as hard as ever, so i wouldn't count them out either. Both teams will be outstanding come tournament time, and that is when it really counts.

Instead of making 2-20 from behind the arc, they could have had 20 lay-ups that were observably seen inside!

I think the technical foul was just out of frustation. I agree if the 3's aren't falling they need to pass inside. They could have come back if they continued to play the 2nd half like they did the 1st half. They looked for the open man instead of throwing up 3's out of desperation and they pressed Magoffin causing many turnovers. They took 32 3's in that game and that is way too many. I saw one playing shoot a 3 standing on the white line at almost half court and Brent didn't even take him out. Maybe they thought they already had the game won before it started, sometimes a lose early is good.

Well as far as I can see the Hornets have improved greatley and as for sheldon clark, JCHS, and paintsville highschool they better be ready to play when the hornets take the floor because they have nothing to lose but their pride and I dont think it's going anywhere... Good luck Hornets

Betsy Layne is a very good team. They have talented players in every position. They are athletic, play good defense, and can potentially explode offensively. This is an early season game. They didn't play as well as they are going to play.

Neither did Magoffin. I'm very excited about this team. But this is an early season game. I hope they don't get cocky. I hope they STAY HUNGRY. I hope they enjoy the payback they will deliver this year for the beatings they've taken the last 3 or 4 years. They can do it. But they have to STAY HUNGRY. They have plenty of room to improve.

This game was closer than many people realize. And I thought both teams were well coached. Betsy Layne started fouling early because there were so few fouls committed, they had to get to the point where they could put the Hornets on the line. And except for the intentional foul and technical foul, the strategy might have worked. Magoffin had missed a couple of free throws which allowed Betsy Layne to get back into the game.

So, Betsy Layne isn't overrated just because they lost their opener at home to the Hornets. And the Hornets are not suddenly a great team because they beat Betsy Layne at home in the season opener.

But for all of you who think that the Hornet don't have a chance to win the 57th District, you may find yourself eating your words at the end of the season. The Hornets have a long way to go. And the 57th District is very strong this year. But Magoffin County really does have the players and the confidence (if they don't get cocky) to beat any team in the District or Region.

It might not happen. But it could. And I don't consider it a long shot.
