WEll it was a closer game than it should have been. Shawn was playing with the flu and couldnt hardly bbreath. He had 1 foul in the first half and then in a 2 min span picked up four fouls, with the fourth foul a charge call and it was, he was so upset with himself for that and as he started walking back down the floor they called a T on him and picked up his fifth foul, Which IMO was a BULL S*** call, i was standing right there along with a guy from the big sandy news and we both were like what did he do, because he never said a thing to anyone at all. any way the officals again were horrible on both sides, He went out with around 2:38 to go in the 3rd qtr, and Lawrence was up four or five, The Dawgs had several guys step up. The one that really stepped up was Brent Fyffe who hit like 10 free throws in a row. He also had 3 or 4 threes that were huge. And his D was great. I will get the stats to everyone as soon as i get them. I do Know that Thompson ended with 12 pts and 13 rebounds when he went out of the game. The big thing is that the team showed they are for real able to battle with out there goto guy in the line up for most of the 2nd half. Good Win for the Dawgs.

I'll have to give Thompson some credit for trying to play tonight, he was feeling horrible before the game. Glad to see we have several seniors to step up and be leaders also. We have a great team and some great leaders, enjoy watching the boys play as a team this year. Proud of my DAWGS!!!!!!!!

Good Win for the Dawgs. For the Dawgs, I really think that Fyffe is the most important player on that team. He can hit the shot, dish out assists, but more importantly, he sets the tone on defense. He can cause some damage with his peremiter defense.
What's up with Thompson?? He's a very good player, but he lets his emotions get the best of him. That's 2 games in a row that he's been T'd up. I know the one at Paintsville was a stupid call, though.
I like Lawrence, they have a lot going for them. They will be a contender in the region. It's too bad for the 57th district. There are 3 very good teams and the other 2 are pretty darned good too.

if i remember correctly( although i could be wrong) the same ref that called the one at paintsville also called the one against magoffin county, when the coach asked why he called the T the ref said, well he talks too much( good teams do communicate on the floor)...not that he said anything directly to the ref or against anyone else, not really sure why thats cause for a T

I thought Thompson had 2 fouls in the first half. I remember when he got his third foul early in the third quarter I was thinking they should sit him down a while. But they didn't. I thought both technical fouls were legitimate against Thompson. You simply can't jump up and down and spread your arms out like that after a call. You'll get (or should get) a "T" every time. The 4th foul called on Thompson was a good call. He had no reason to react the way he did. I will say the 4th foul he was called for at Paintsville was a cheap call, though. I also thought there were more than 3 minutes left in the third quarter when he fouled out.
Still, he played great while he was in the game. Congratulations to LC for stepping up without your starting center. Fyffe only made 10 free throws in a row?!?!? It seemed like 20!
Magoffin played better last night than they have in the past couple of games - except for the 2nd quarter where they struggled against the pressure defense. But they still have a ways to go before they are as good as they can be. I believe they'll get there this year. They'll be a serious threat this season and in the post-season, too!
Lawrence County has really impressed me so far. Good Luck LC.

He may have had 2 fouls in the first half, the thing is what is the difference in when you make a good play and you get up pumping your fist with excitement and the difference when you do the same thing on a bad call. Yea if they was going to "T" him up they should have done it at the time he showed emotion, he had already calmed down and started walking back down the floor a good 20 -30 secs after the foul was called. The samething should have been called on a Magoffin Co. player not to long after that in front of the Lawrence CO. bench, when a Magoffin Co player was called for a foul and he clapped his hands together because he was mad and then starting running as if to say i cant believe you called that on me. and know they didnt. so i see how the officals are in the 15th already and i thought they were bad in the Boyd CO area.

Having admitted you were incorrect about the number of fouls in the on #11 in the first and second halves, maybe you would consider the following:
First of all, the official that gave the "T" DID NOT wait 20 or 30 seconds to make that call. But there was a slight delay. Could it be possible that the ref was giving the player a little room to vent his frustration in a normal or acceptable fashion? Is it also possible that once the official determined the player crossed the line, the "T" was given?
That's the way I saw it. It's exactly the same way it happened at Paintsville.
Most officials will allow a player a short, emotional outburst so long as they don't use foul language or go too far in their physical reaction. The foul language is a no brainer. What makes a physical reaction "too far" is a judgement call for each official. Generally, if you holds your hands out, spin around, and say almost anything in a negative reaction to a call, you're flirting with a technical.
A point of emphasis for officials this year has to do with a player's emotional reactions to game situations. The rules committee even went so far as specifically pointing out that if a player pulls their shirt out of their shorts in a display of disgust, it is a technical foul. Did you see the girl that got a "T" in the girls game. She got that technical foul for taunting. All she did was put her hands up and gesture for the Magoffin County girl to "bring it on". It's all part of a renewed focus on sportsmanship. A player who disagrees with a call is not going to be able to get away with showing disgust with the referees any more. And that's a good thing.
Along those lines, I will agree with you that one of the Magoffin County players should have gotten a "T" also when he reacted the way he did to a foul call. He actually did more than just clap his hands!

Well to start with yea it was about 20 secs, because the other offical had walked over and already give the score keeper the player number and as he was walking down the floor he gave him the T. But you still didnt answer the question what is the difference when celebrating after a charge taken or a bucket made after getting fouled, then showing the same emotion because you were called for a foul, the same difference. You can say what you want, either way its showing off in some form. and i was standing right under the basket right in front off the offical and could hear everything and there was nothing said, I agree that he should not have reacted the way that he did but on the other hand he should have been given the T as soon as he did react and not after he had already calmed down and started walking back down the floor. And yea the kid from Magoffin Co should have been given one also, but were was that one at, no where to be seen and he did way more than the kid from Lawrence Co did and yet no foul. I can see if they never called one on him then not to call the one on Magoffin but again there that was wrong also.

Let the score board do the talkin. Big win especially with Shawn out so much and the rest of the team having to step up. This will be good experience for them later and next time maybe Shawn will just take his frustrations out on the court.

First of all, who said thompson had foul language? Second of all, the T at Pantsville was told to the coach that "he talks to much". I'm sorry but I'm glad to see the kids get involved and Shawn does let his emotions get the best of him at times. He is too hard on himself at times and he thinks he lets the team down so he over reacts.

Don't know if the outcome would have been different but I have seen the Shepherd boy from MC play and he makes the team! Anytime you have a sick kid on the court they cannot perform up to par! No excuses for either, just saying.
seems like LC may be a force this year?

Well, I think Magoffin needs to focus on the loss and get back in the gym and practice harder, and second of all maybe magoffin players aren't perfect either if they had a kid getting punished, so stop worrying about thompson and worry about your own players. The Dawgs have moved on and now focusing on jc game friday so move on hornets. Ans by the way, no Thompson didn't have foul lauguage, was you on the floor, are you a ref?

Well I am not going to beat a dead horse in the ground, but the kid did not say anything, I know for a fact the kid did not curse, he has never said a curse word a day in his Life.
