I haven't seen a 15th Region basketball game in 5 years, as my rankings probably show, but I tried....lol.

7 times out of 10 Prestonsburg will beat Shelby Valley, IF they learn how to play with the lead, until they do that they're at about #6 or #7 in the region looking in at the top 5.

[Matney's Prodigey]

1. Paintsville: All the tools are there. They may be playing below their potential, BUT IT IS DECEMBER THE 17TH. The season is not made or broke in December. BMR will have this team of studs ready when it matters.
2. Pike Central: David Rowe always does a great job and Brad Lowe can shoot it as well as anyone in the region. This 4-0 team is pretty tough. I look for them to continue to flex their muscle as the season prgresses.
3. Belfry: They always get a late start because they play some fall sport in Pond Creek that seems to be popular, but the aggresive, physical style that Belfry brings to the table and the toughness that carries over from the grid-iron will make them tough in the end. Matt Maynard might be the best athlete in the region.
4. South Floyd: Only loss came to Knott County Central in the 14th region. The Raiders always play as hard as anyone in the region and when they are on look out they can topple the mightiest of foes.
5. Sheldon Clark: Call me a homer, but this team is capable of being pretty darn good. They are as athletic as anyone in the region and have May who is capable of taking over a game at any time. He is probabley the streakiest shooter in the region and if he gets hot nobody in the region can do much about it. Their record may not be great, but just like Paintsville it is only DECEMBER. If they can begin to guard people the way they are capable and with a little luck this team could make some major noise when it matters.
6. Lawrence County: Yes yes I know they just suffered a huge district loss to JC, but they also have a game on Paintsville and Magoffin. The JC game was the first time Trimble had went back to JC and emotions were probabley high on both sides. Les Trimble always seems to get the most out of his kids and I don't expect this year to be any diffrent. With one of the best big men in the region they will be tough for any 15th region team.
7. East Ridge: With their only loss coming to Pike Central on the road this teams earns a spot at #7. They always seem to get after teams defensively and their upstyle tempo will keep them in most games and will make them a force in the 15th.
8. Prestonsburg: This Blackcat team in my mind is the sleeper. They have wins over Magoffin and Allen Central (both on the road), but suffer a set back to Valley also on the road. I think they probabley deserve to be higher in the poll and once they start beating some teams they will move up. The only thing this team needs right now is TIME.
9. (tie) Johnson Central: This team is scary athletic and will be a threat if they can ever get things straightened out everyone else better look out. They have athletes at every position, and can ride their 2 studs if needed, but just haven't seemed to come together yet.
9. (tie) Magoffin County: I know I will catch some flack over having all 5 of the 57th district teams in the top 10, but the Hornets have made a believer out of me. With a big win over what some called the favorite in the 15th Betsy Lane at BL and a win against Shelby Valley at home makes me feel the Hornets are on the right track again.

Well thats my top 10. If I were to finish it out I'd go with in order:

Now I haven't seen all the teams play, but this is the feeling I get from the teams. This could be a very exciting year in the 15th with a handfull of teams all capable of being the top team any given night. No matter what it will be fun to watch.

How does that make Magoffin a top 5 team then? You're saying they should be in the top 5 because they played Paintsville tough at home, then you're saying that there is no way Paintsville is #1? The only way this statement would make sense is if Paintsville was head and shoulders above the competition in the 15th.

IMO, Paintsville is highly overrated. Either they had a terrible game last night, or thats how they always play. Beating them is tough, but sticking right with them on their own floor counts for a lot too. Magoffin definitely deserves to be somewhere in the top ten. I guess they still have to prove to other people that they truely are a tough team this year.

Hey Magoffin will surprise alot of teams this year, alot of people have posted that paintsville is #1 or #2 I would but them as an #5 or #6 ranking.
And no im not saying that they should be in the top 5 because they played Paintsville tough at home Im just saying if the 57th district refs didnt hate magoffin county and our leading scorer wasn't sick I think the out comes would be totaly different and remember they had the home court advantage.

And the way this statement does makes sense is I have other reasons its not just about this game before that game I said that Paintsville should not be #1, I mean Paintsvilles good but not that good. I would put Magoffin County over Paintsville any day because of "Talent" and "Skills"

1. Paintsville - a bad loss to Lawrence Co. seem to have a long way to go but at this point who doesn't
2. Shelby Valley - lots of talent, lost at Hazard and choked at Magoffin (up 10 with 4 minutes to play) have played way below their potential so far and are still above .500
3. Johnson Central - loaded with talent, bad losses to South Floyd and SC, but still dangerous
4. South Floyd - seem to be up and down so far, good win over Hazard, not a very good loss at KCC and letting Cordia play within a basket puts them at number 4
5a. Prestonsburg - I was fairly impressed at SV with their athelticism (no way they beat SV 7 of 10 like someone said earlier)
5b. Sheldon Clark - lost 4 in a row seem to be slumping but have some talent
5c. Magoffin - good win over SV, played Paintsville well, not sure about their depth

To bad you dont get it from your past years there Instant that was the past four years where is Valley now pretty much down and actaully the way Pike Central has been playing id have to say they are proving themselves they came an ace to beating North Laurel...As well they beat a team that was picked as a fav in preseason ON THE ROAD thus being Sheldon Clark...THey are 5 and 1...Three of the five wins coming on the road and the only loss coming to a team that is in the Mountain Top 10...If they beat Leslie then I will stand even more correct...

I never said they shouldn't be in the top ten, but they sure aren't the #2 team in the region. South Floyd, Sheldon Clark, Johnson Central, Pike Central and Belfry are all better. Also what has Shelby Valley proven this year, beating David by 90 barely getting by Cordia and beating Pburg on your home court by 2 isn't exactly proving anything. The past don't count and the talent that can win by themselves is gone however I do think if they had a decent coach they might would have a chance to compete.

PC is the only team to prove any thing thus far in the season.....they went to one of the toughest tourny's in the state with an undefeated record and almost upset the #12 team in the state being North Laurel at North Laurel(there was some home cookin goin on they called 4 double fouls in a row down the stretch when PC players were standing there taking elbows to the chest on the post with thier arms out).....they beat a very tough Boyle Co. and then in the worst called game ive ever witnessed lossed to a leslie Co. team that was on fire.PC is 5-2 but could easily be 7-0 and they are still undefeated in the region.....i would say there #1 in the region

I dont go to school anymore. I havnt for oh, over 20 years now, I just think Pike Central is one of the best teams. I also think that before the year is out, it will be Paintsville. But at this point of time in the season, I belive it is PCC that is the best.
