I'm interested in hearing from actual PLAYERS on here -- or people with SOLID knowledge -- as to how your OFF-SEASON program has been going.

How many days a week do you have organized workouts?

What % of next year's players actually come every time?

Are your basketball players lifting?

How long are your workouts?

What kinds of lifts do you do?

What do you do besides lift in your workouts?

Are the workouts "tough" or "laid-back"?

What happens to you if you miss a workout?

I know there's a lot of different ways these are done in HS...wondered what you like or don't like about your program.

If YOU were in charge, how would you run it?

Allen Central wont start liftin until we come back from christmas break but i can tell you that the first few days they may get 10-15 players in liftin....then after a few weeks there will only be around 5 or 6 players come....very few players at Ac are dedicated to the sport.....good thread though

Shelby Valley off-season lifting

How many days a week do you have organized workouts? We lift 4 days a week after school- Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday

What % of next year's players actually come every time? We have almost every player come to our workouts as it is pushed very hard by Coach Hampton.

Are your basketball players lifting? Basketball players are not required to come after school to work out, but they do have weight lifting as a class you can take during school hours, it is there choice to take this or not.

How long are your workouts? Our work outs usually last between 1-1 1/2 hours..

What kinds of lifts do you do? Almost every lift we can, we have specific days for specific parts of the body (chest, arms, legs)

What do you do besides lift in your workouts? Occasionally we will run, we do core (push-ups, sit-ups, etc..)

Are the workouts "tough" or "laid-back"? They are pretty tough, we push very hard in the off-season to get much stronger and we set goals for weight we want to reach

What happens to you if you miss a workout? I'm pretty sure it's 3 and you're punished, I'm not sure though because I attend every workout we have

I know there's a lot of different ways these are done in HS...wondered what you like or don't like about your program.

If YOU were in charge, how would you run it? I would probably run it the same we we have been the last few years, it is very productive and a lot of boys come out and lift.

How many days a week do you have organized workouts? Everyday except wed. or sun.

What % of next year's players actually come every time?ALL

Are your basketball players lifting? Yes they are they have no choice

How long are your workouts?1 1/2 2 hrs

What kinds of lifts do you do?Everything.... all types of cleans, everything u could do for your leg and arms, chest, neck, calves, anyhtiong u could think of we do.

What do you do besides lift in your workouts?we have indoor which is like conditioning such as up-downs, wrestling, agilitys, explosive workouts, gassers, etc etc

Are the workouts "tough" or "laid-back"? Very hard its almost a ritual to puck everyday u come in there... that should say something.

What happens to you if you miss a workout?Disipline, gassers, up-down, wind sprints u get the drift

I know there's a lot of different ways these are done in HS...wondered what you like or don't like about your program. I like everything about Southwestern the campus the football facility, the track facility, and the baseball and basketball(not much of a basketball fan) and i think its safe to say that Coach Dale Anderson and the football team have the most college bound athlethes then many schools in the state of kentucky, but they dont go to college all from talent but when you step through the doors of the SW filedhouse its like walking through the gates of Notre Dame stadium its just that feeling... and if you work hard and do good on the field Coach A will make sure you go ****her in life... Josh Minton, Matt Sadler, Martin Mcpherson, Lee Renfro, just to name a few...

Wow...I guess Shelby Valley and SWPulaski are the only schools around with a structured off-season program???

This is surprising to me; I'd have thought Pburg, Paintsville, Pikeville, Belfry, etc. would've had good programs since they usually win.

they have a 1st period weight lifting class and it starts 30 minutes before school, there is 5 times conditiong an lifting a week, then they go three times a week after school for everyone including people who have the weight lifting class, then basketball players that don't have the class but have pe sometime during the day have a power rack set up in the gym to lift on during p.e. Everyone who plays football which i don't think it includes basketball players, now has to be on the wrestling team. Which is now coached by james derrossett.

How many days a week do you have organized workouts? - 4 out of 5 days
What % of next year's players actually come every time? - About 75%

Are your basketball players lifting? - No Not Right Now

How long are your workouts? - Anywhere From 2 - 2 1/2 Hrs long

What kinds of lifts do you do? - [I]Core lifts are bench, squat, power clean, and incline bench, power pulls, push press, front squat, and things like that and then the auxillary lifts are like leg drive, leg extension/ curls, lunges. dips, ect.

What do you do besides lift in your workouts? - We Run and Work On Footwork then Every wednesday the seniors have a leadership meeting, this is the day when they dont lift.
Are the workouts "tough" or "laid-back"? - These workouts are Very Tough, Like 5x5 like 2 days out of the week.

What happens to you if you miss a workout? - We get punished by having to run and do wall workouts.

I know there's a lot of different ways these are done in HS...wondered what you like or don't like about your program. - I like it because it is physical and very hard.
If YOU were in charge, how would you run it? - There isnt many things that i would change about this program, other than be more disciplined and tougher.

Wow...completely AMAZING!

There are a lot of players, coaches, etc. that get on here and BRAG about how good they're "going" to be.

They'll talk and talk and talk about how many yards they're GOING to have or how they KNOW they're "the best in the state" but they won't say a WORD about what their school does in the OFF-SEASON to actually MAKE those things happen!

Looks like SWPulaski, Hazard, and Pburg are the only schools with good enough off-season programs that their guys actually feel proud enough about talking about!

I'm a little amazed...I thought high school kids and coaches were working harder than this.

Just because someone hasn't replied in this thread about Belfry and Pikeville weightlifting programs doesn't mean the kids are just sitting around. I know Pikeville is working as hard as any other team in EKY and I would say that Belfry is right there with them. I don't know what they are doing because I haven't been there but a assistant coach from Pikeville that has been there for about 20 years told me this is the hardest he has seen a Pikeville football team work in the offseason.

We want to hear how you all work out 24/7.

I asked for PLAYERS that post on here to tell us all what they think about THEIR off-season program and the way it is run (I no longer play, but follow HS football passionately).

Back in my playing days, I thought our team was working as hard/smart as it could.

I didn't find out until I got to college and talked to my teammates that others were actually doing BETTER and MORE stuff than we were in HS. Wished then I'd have known what others were doing and maybe I'd have pushed my teammates harder -- maybe we'd have won more too!

I posted what I did (and am hounding people to post like I am) in an effort to let those that are working hard at their schools who might feel they're being "worked too hard" to see that they're not alone.

...and also, to let those who are NOT working hard see that many of their OPPONENTS in fact ARE working hard to maybe MOTIVATE them to get started!

I follow and watch several teams in the EKy. area each year, and the teams I follow the most (Paintsville/JC) are the ones I want to know the most about...but I'm just not hearing much in the community or on these boards about what they're doing.

The fact that you want CURRENT players and coaches to explain their off-season program is a major flaw in your question. There are numerous people such as parents, recent graduates, close followers, and many, many more people who could tell you exactly what is going on during off-season workouts for some schools but won't answer because you asked specifically for current players and coaches. I understand that you want knowledgeable people to respond, but there are more people than players and coaches who hold this information.

Your point is well-taken. It was that I just wanted the most accurate info possible for kids to compare notes like I would've wanted to.

I withdraw the original question and pose it to ANYBODY with SOLID knowledge of what is done on a daily/weekly basis to post what their programs are doing.

Thanks, TC68, for clarifying why maybe there's not been as much action on this question.
