Itrip for Ipod

Well i got an Itrip by Griffin for Christmas. It plugs into the dock space on my ipod nano and plays whatever song my ipod is playing onto any FM radio in reach. My only problem is I have no idea how to work it. The directions say just plug it in select a frequency and go, but it doesn't work when i do this all i get is static. If anyone has one would you please give some advice.
