Chris McNamee IS the 3rd best coach in the region, behind Heywood, and Holcomb!
He should Have won 2 state titles, in 99', and 00'!, but he was out maned in 00', and the offenseive coordinator in 99' lost that one for them!. That year they BY FAR were the best 1A team in the state...Matt Branham, Chace Gibson, Barett Rogers, Chris Shuemate, and a few other guys that were great football players!
IMO 3 years, and Pike Cental will be a top program in the region, and state in 2A!

I wouldnt go that far....but he is very good. PC has Merchant and Varney returning....they also will have Corey Carter back from a knee injury, which is a huge addition. Joe Nichols and Zach Ratliff are returning at wideout. Joey Buckley and the previously mentioned players will also be back on defense. They are losing a good pass rush end in Corey Mullins. Also, Logan Clark on the o-line will be gone. Daniel "Tiny" Coleman, will be the best lineman returning. They are losing their QB, Justin Campbell, but are replacing him with a guy named Ethan Young. He is fairly tall, and can make the neccessary throws. The biggest loss for the Hawks, though, was irreplacible MLB and G Chadd Blackburn. He was the heart and soul for the team this season. I think, with some hard work in the weight room, the Hawks could be serious contenders in the district as soon as this season.

i found out who the sophmore from p-ville is... his name is tate blankenship... i look for him to start as a junior... if the khsaa will let him play.... hes a lineman... and i hear he might start a little d-line... im not sure... he might end up rotating in... if he gets more dedicated...
they have a great well respected coach, they'll be good if not then in a few years

Im glad to see that pike central is going in the right direction...Maybe it will open the eyes of the administration at Valley because if we dont find a quality coach soon we wont be able to compete with them any more...East Ridge is also on the right track by bringing back Eric Ratliff...i had the honor of playing under him while he was at Valley 2 years ago and this guy knows his football

Looks like they went backwards last year!! They didnt even make the playoffs, and the year before they had the highest district finish in school history. This past year they bought out a contract and scheduled a team that had 13 players one of which was a female? Still only managed 4 wins. Shelby valley did beat central last year so, I would not worry too much on Robinson Creek.

Pike Central is definatley on the rise that is for sure, but I don't know if they are ready to compete with the "STUDS" in their district. Belfry is as one of the top football programs in the state regardless of classifacation. Prestonsburg also has deep football roots and will not repeat this seasons results very often. Sheldon Clark is enjoying football success as they have for much of the past decade and will only get better under Hager. All in all Pike Central is going in the right direction, but they still have a way to go if they want to compete for the district title. IMHO

Sure not all of the kids love Coach Mac, but more than likely they don't like the discipline and the work ethic Coach M demands. It will take a couple of years to change that program around. Those kids aren't used to organization and structure, things that it takes to build an organization, but Coach M will get it. they made vast improvements from last year, even though the record didn't show it, PC looked like a totally different ball club. Who knows if they can get some line play and consistancy at QB, possibly looking at a home game in the playoffs. They have one of the better backfields in the mountains.

PC has several players with nice potential. Right now some of those players aren't busting their tail in the weight room like they should be. In order for PC to be a contender in the future, these players need to step up, hit the weights hard, and not make excuses as to why they're not lifting!! It takes hard work and dedication to be successful!

The improvements from last year came from coaching...the players were young and couldnt do much with McNamee's system...if they hit the weight room better, they could be competitive in a couple of years.
I dont know how vast these improvements were...PC was a team who beat SC and SV last year. They got 3rd in the district b/c they were competing w/the State Champs and a P-Burg team that, if not for Belfry, could have been the State champs themselves. So, I might call it a step back for PC now that I take a closer look.

From a pretty reliable source i heard it was a huge transition.. I was told it was easier, and if they had ran harder the record would have been different this past year.. They didn't run as much in practice, and you could tell.. They couldn't play the second half.

You make a good Point; but the hawks lost ALOT to the 2005 graduation! Mac. could do nothing about kids graduating...lol...I still couldn't understand why they weren't in top shape, this is not like a typical Chris Macnamee football team...his players are usualy well conditioned!!!

I know your source, and he would be as reliable as they come. Maybe Mac is not the savior that everyone thinks. He was there before and did nothing. He has alot more help (asst.) than Poynter ever had. The board would not help Poynter. As far as gradation PC had thier best players in Gordan Varney and Quirvon Merchant returning and 5 staters on defense and 6 on offense back. So they should have been able to do something other than beating Evangel Christian, Phelps. Like Smokey said they just came off the best year in school history with there fair share of injuries. So you can beleive what you want. but facts are facts. :bounce:

Yes in 2004 we beat Sheldon Clark and Shelby Valley. Yes we lost to them in 2005. Does that really mean we took a step back? Look at a Sheldon Clark team that finished 1-5 in district play during the 2004 season and a Sheldon Clark team that finished 5-2 in their District during 2005 with two losses to Belfry. Knocked off Breathitt Co. and a very nice Leslie Co. team AT leslie in the 2005 state playoffs. Completely different Sheldon Clark team. Then we take Valley who was 3-3 in district play this year losing to Belfry, Prestonsburg and SHELDON CLARK, compared to 2004 where Valley again went 3-3 in the district losing to Belfry, Prestonsburg, and PIKE CENTRAL. Our 2004 game with Valley could've went either way as it was a Triple Overtime ballgame AND the first game of the season (Pike County Bowl) We finished 3-3 in the district in 2004 under a system in which we were familiar with, and 2-4 in 2005 with a new offensive coordinater, new head coach, new line coach, new defensive coordinator. Give THIS COACHING STAFF three years to get these kids used to their system and their style of play,
(2004 was Poynters third year and we went 3-3 in District) and I can almost guarantee you that PC will have a much better district and overall record than that of the 2004 season. So our record may have been one more loss different than that of our 2004 season. But taking a step back? If anything, the Pike Central football program has taken a step forward by putting together an excellent coaching staff. You don't become a great team overnight, so all you PC fans just give it time, give this coaching staff a chance before saying they've taken a step back and such!

This staff has had a couple shots at trying to build a football at Pike central and have failed. But they are all of a sudden the savior. :BigLaugh: As for the teams that you lost too, like Sheldon Clark and Shelby Valley, the teams that Sheldon Clark beat were way way down, P-burg and Breathitt had the worst teams they have had in several years, and as far as Shelby Valley that team was bearly hanging by a thread as they had a new coach that quite a week into the season. (you guys had your coach for spring practice). The 2004 team that played in the Pike County bowl could have beaten alot of teams, but they didnt get to play, as most of them had some type of injury during the year. Yes Central does have a new coaching staff, something that the admin. would not give Poynter. He brought in a asst. and they told him they would him, meanwhile he had to teach at Phelps High School that is a hour away. Oh yes there was 2 teaching spots open in his area, that went to family members of the "powers to be". That is just one example of lack of support for the 04 staff ,there were plenty of others. As far as "new this and that" Poynter first year he had only 2 starters out of 22 coming back and he won the most games in school history. I think you may be right about give them 3 years and there record make be better than 04 but there district will not. There are alot of Evangel Christians out there to help pad that record, but try to at least play a boys team not one with 13 coed players. And that is part of the FACTS.:redboxer:

Guess we'll see buddy! But it takes more than some excellent players to win ballgames, as your buddy SMOKEY stated. Its a team effort. Thats right, 11 players working as one! No they're not a savior after 1 year, or after 3 or so like they've had before......Ask Phillip Haywood how long its took him at Belfry to make that program the powerhouse it became. Some people just dont understand that it takes time to build a program. It starts when the kids are in about the 3rd grade. They need to have a good Little Leauge program to get them started and learn all the fundamentals for the next 3 years. Then when they get to the grade school level they already know the basics of football, and they should then start running the basic plays of the high schools offense, so when they get to high school, it won't be completely new to them!

You do not have to tell me what it takes to built a football program BUDDY,
I know that. There was alot of things before your time!!!! Maybe you should know the FACTS before you post. :blabbermo Phillip Haywood has not been the only person to ever quick start a program (Yeagle, Matney, Hilton, Larkey, Raines, Marty Jaggers just to name a few.
Check out post #55 on this thread, about your coach. :theman:
I am done with this thread.
Good luck Pike Central, win that state championship, your principal promised. :champ:

[QUOTE="Smokey"]exactly right...PC had some excellent players. They should have been able to compete with SV and P-Burg. I was all for Mac at first....but I am worried. They dont lift enough. They all have a weight lifting class...but only lift 2 to 3 times a week. They also ran the same plays over and over again last year. I hope for the best....my lil brother plays for them. I just think if it is going to be done, they need to get into the weightroom..... fast.[/QUOT
Poynter sure made us lift weights, run and go to football camp. But people tell us how the new staff cut the "deadwood" and really worked us hard. It was 10 times easier than before. This was the problem when he was at Pikeville. Some current coaches told me that they couldnt beleive what little weight training these kids have had and who was these kids' coach until last year? Some jr high parents told me that if mcnamee wound up at a jr high practice or game it was an accident. I got ribbed by some family members who are central alums that central stole our coach. My reply was that they indeed did rob our house but they took the rusty broken down datsun in the front yard and left every thing else. So thanks for the haul-off guys LOL!

I for one am very glad to have a good man and a good coach like Mac at Pike Central.
Time will tell what kind of a Coach he is. I think it is too soon to judge him at PC and his record at Pikeville (on and off the field) speaks for itself.

I couldn't agree more... I'm not a PCC fan, but I am a Chris M. fan...As far as the good man goes...you couldn't have gotten a better one!

Mac is a good man....he treated the players great this year. But, I am worried about the weight program. It doesnt seem like they are even close to lifting enough. With the lack of strength on this team anyway, this is a major problem.

I second that!! PC will make the playoffs in 2006 and should be tops by 2007-08!!!
Go Hawks!!
Pike Central will never be tops in this region, nor their district...

if u recall....pc barely beat SV the previous year in a 3 OT game...and this years game was actually a good one...yes, pc only won 4 games....however, out of 9 games, they played p-burg, belfry, boyd county, sheldon clark and lawerence county...those are 5 **** good football teams...so u cant realyl say it was a backwards season considering losing 12 or 13 seniors from the last year and taking on a completely new coaching staff

u say that because ur a bias pikeville panther...its impossible for some of you guys to see anything good coming to any team outside of your own...
yes-belfry will improve against next season...as will pikeville...and p-burg...
but i guarantee that within 4 or 5 seasons, if Mac stays at central and continues to work them in the weight room like he is...then pike central will beat prestonsburg again and play with belfry....and i would be bold enough to say they could beat pikeville, however they never play so it only starts an endless argument
