WACKEN, Germany (WKRC) - Wacken Open Air is considered the world's largest metal music festival, with some metalheads going as far as to nickname the event "the Metal Mecca."


It's a trip that many fans take, and, according to police, also a journey made by two elderly men who had escaped from their nursing home.

Police say they finally found the pair at the festival around 3 a.m. after being alerted of their departure from the nursing home. That's around the time many of the performances are over, so it seems the two gentlemen were able to enjoy many of the bands by that time.

Police say the men were reluctant to return, so police escorted them home with the help of a taxi and a patrol vehicle.

"They obviously liked the metal festival," said police spokeswoman Merle Neufeld to public broadcaster Norddeutscher Rundfunk. "The care home quickly organized a return transport after police picked them up."

It just goes to show that you are never too old to be a metalhead!

I loved it too. I guess they figured, what did they have to lose? We're they going to get booted from the nursing home. Big deal.
