MJ was acquitted. That should account for something. Maybe they were after money. Their story kept changing while on the stand. Dunno.

So was OJ, so I wouldn't necessarily trust the he was innocent, just not found guilty.

Okay i know what you are going to say when i say this but i'm going to say it anyways. I know your going to say he settled to save himself from prison but IMO that is not why he settled. Yes he settled out of court, but it was try to save his star power and to try to keep his good name. So in case one he was never convicted. In case two his attorneys proved that the money hungry family had done nothing but lie. All thier stories were differant when they got on the stand. So by a jury of his peers he was found not guilty!

I'm guessing that it certainly could be habitual if it's anything like Morphine?

Nice post!! One thing I have to say on behalf of the "controversy" of MJ. IF, I ever accused someone of this type of conduct towards my child I would settle for NO amount of money. I would NOT stop until the accused was in jail spending a nice long time and having some new "boyfriends" per say. IMHO, all these people did was take advantage of him for monetary gain. WHICH, left him sitting in the poor house so to speak. What about his children that he was raising? What is going to happen to them? From what I have heard 2 of them were home when he passed away or had to be taken away in the ambulance. I say sales of his music will soar tremendously even to the point of paying off his debts and hopefully, the children will be taken care of. ALL 3 of them.

Back when I cheered, we did a dance routine to "Thriller" with some of the moves he did in the MTV video. HARD work but back in the 80's, he was the "hot" item to listen to, dance to, and to have in your collection.

I hate to hear of death but as Donathan said, it is a part of the life process, you live and you die. I hope all can look at ALL parts of the controversy surrounding him and be open minded about the reasoning of the settlement and to look at it as I mentioned above. NO amount of money could settle if it were my child.... NONE!!!!

Great post! And his music is already selling like crazy! On Amazon, he was on all Top 10 lists, and on iTunes, he was on the majority of the Top 10 lists. Billboard says he is making music history again even though he passed.

I honestly have no opinion as to the validity of the charges filed against Michael, but don't trust that your line of thining and my line of thinking about prosecuting (if not trying to hurt the person) because of what they did to my children means he is not guilty. He see "Laci Peteson's" in the news all the time. There are people who do not have the same since of values that we may have. Just because someone settled out of court, does not mean that the person was satisfied with the result. Settling happens all the time as well. If OJ won a murder trial, it's fair to think that MJ could have won a court battle as well.

Reports are now saying that Michael's accuser is now saying that he lied, because his father wanted him to. And that he had to say something because after the death of MJ, he had a guilty heart.

I've heard Michael had recorded over 100 songs that were put into a vault in case something happened to him his children would be able to live the life they were accustomed to. So, like Tupac, we may be seeing some new MJ material released in the future.

I do agree that settlements do happen all the time BUT, with this type of publicity, NO way would I even think of taking a settlement. Money is nothing compared to my child and his life happenings and safety. It just makes me wonder if the entire thing wasn't a sham? Could he (the father) have been looking for an easy way out of being poor? Would you put your child through that if it weren't true? It's such a tangled web.......

BUT, MJ's music will live on forever as he broke so many racial barriers and inspired many different young artists on their style. I know I enjoyed it back in the day and more than likely will always "sing a long" when I hear it on the radio!!.... LOLOL...

LOS ANGELES — Jermaine Jackson said he would be "hurt" if toxicology reports show that Michael Jackson abused prescription drugs, but that he did not know about any drug use by his younger brother.

In this business, the pressures and things that you go through, you never know what one turns to," Jermaine Jackson said in an interview broadcast Thursday on NBC's "Today" show.

Asked if he would be shocked or surprised if Michael's drug use was proven, Jermaine said, "I would be hurt." He said he had heard about prescription drug use in the 1980s when his brother was hurt in an accident filming a commercial but did not know if drug use was a possibility more recently.

"I don't know about these things, because I hate anything with drugs," he said, adding that it hurts the family for people to say things about drug use "because we don't know."

The circumstances surrounding Michael Jackson's death last week have become a federal issue, with the Drug Enforcement Administration asked to help police take a look at the pop star's doctors and possible drug use. Allegations have emerged that the 50-year-old entertainer had been consuming painkillers, sedatives and antidepressants.

Medium Uri Geller, a former Jackson confidant, said Thursday he tried to keep Jackson from abusing painkillers and other prescription drugs, but others in the singer's circle kept him supplied.

"When Michael asked for something, he got it. This was the great tragedy," Geller said in a telephone interview with The Associated Press from his suburban London home.

The Los Angeles Police Department asked the DEA to help in the probe, a law enforcement official in Washington told the AP on condition of anonymity because of the investigation's sensitivity.

Jermaine Jackson, in an interview at his brother's Neverland Ranch in Santa Barbara, Calif., that aired on "Today," said he would like the estate to be Michael's final resting place. A person familiar with the situation who spoke on condition of anonymity told the AP that permits for a burial at Neverland could not be arranged in time.

Jackson said he wishes he had died instead of his younger brother, and that Michael was "a gift from Allah."

"He went too soon," he said. "I don't know how people are going to take this, but I wish it was me."

When asked why he felt that way, he said that he always felt that he was Michael's backbone.

He said it was a friend who told him last week that his brother had been rushed to the hospital. He called his mother, Katherine, who told him that Michael was dead.

"To feel and hear the tone in her voice, to say her child is dead, is nothing that anyone can imagine," he said.

Jermaine Jackson said he rushed to UCLA Medical Center. He asked to see his brother's body. He hugged and kissed him and said, "Michael, I'll never leave you. You'll never leave me," he said.

While the investigation into the singer's death deepened, passionate Michael Jackson fans spent another day in an uneasy limbo, awaiting word from the King of Pop's camp about where and when a memorial service might be held for their hero — and if they're even invited.

Speculation about the potential location of a memorial ricocheted during the day from the Staples Center to the Los Angeles Coliseum to the Nokia Theater. Jackson family spokesman Ken Sunshine said a public memorial was in the works but that it wouldn't be at Neverland.

The elimination of the proposed Neverland memorial came as a blow to many Jackson fans who had already descended on the estate in the rolling hills near Santa Barbara with the hope of attending a public viewing.

"We're terribly disappointed," said Ida Barron, 44, who arrived with her husband Paul Barron, 56, intending to spend several days in a tent.

Many of Jackson's die-hard fans refused to believe that the family would bury their most famous son without acknowledging the supporters who helped propel him to superstardom.

"I can't believe they wouldn't do something for his fans," said Rosie Padron, who had roped off a spot just outside the Neverland gates. "Michael loved his fans."

New Yorkers weren't willing to wait. The weekly Amateur Night at the Apollo Theater turned into a Jackson celebration, with impersonators emulating his outfits and mimicking his dance moves.

Allison Hector, who wore a T-shirt with the image of the "Thriller" album cover, ecstatically did steps that she learned watching Jackson's music videos.

"Nobody moves like him," the 19-year-old said, her eyes filling with tears. "I feel it in my blood — I just can't help it!"

On the legal front, Jackson's 7-year-old will was filed Wednesday in a Los Angeles court, giving his entire estate to a family trust and naming his 79-year-old mother Katherine and his three children as beneficiaries. The will also estimates the value of his estate at more than $500 million.

Katherine Jackson was appointed the children's guardian, with entertainer Diana Ross, a longtime friend of Michael Jackson, named successor guardian if something happens to his mother. A court will ultimately decide who the children's legal guardian will be.

Jackson's lawyer John Branca and family friend John McClain, a music executive, were named in the will as co-executors of his estate. In a statement, they said the most important element of the will was Jackson's steadfast desire that his mother become the legal guardian for his children.

"As we work to carry out Michael's instructions to safeguard both the future of his children as well as the remarkable legacy he left us as an artist, we ask that all matters involving his estate be handled with the dignity and the respect that Michael and his family deserve," the statement said.

(4 of 4)

The will doesn't name father Joe Jackson to any position of authority in administering the estate. Also shut out is ex-wife Debbie Rowe, the mother of his two oldest children.

The executors moved quickly to take control of all of Michael Jackson's property, going to court hours after filing the will to challenge a previous ruling that gave Katherine Jackson control of 2,000 items from Neverland.

Paul Gordon Hoffman, an attorney for the executors, told Superior Court Judge Mitchell Beckloff his clients are the proper people to take over Jackson's financial affairs. He called Katherine Jackson's speed in getting limited power over her son's property "a race to the courthouse that is, frankly, improper."

Judge Beckloff urged attorneys from both sides to try to reach a compromise. A hearing on the estate was set for Monday.

The will, dated July 7, 2002, gives the entire estate to the Michael Jackson Family Trust. Details of the trust will not be made public.

Jackson owns a 50 percent stake in the massive Sony-ATV Music Publishing Catalog, which includes music by the Beatles, Bob Dylan, Neil Diamond, Lady Gaga and the Jonas Brothers.

Jackson, who died June 25, left behind three children: son Michael Joseph Jr., known as Prince Michael, 12; daughter Paris Michael Katherine, 11; and son Prince Michael II, 7. Rowe was the mother of the two oldest children; the youngest was born to a surrogate mother, who has never been identified.

Rowe, who was married to Jackson in 1996 and filed for divorce three years later, surrendered her parental rights. An appeals court later found that was done in error, and Rowe and Jackson entered an out-of-court settlement in 2006.

Neither Rowe nor her attorneys have indicated whether she intends to seek custody of the two oldest children.

News update: An effort to bury Michael Jackson at Neverland Ranch has fizzled and it appears more likely a funeral and burial will take place in Los Angeles, a person familiar with the situation told The Associated Press on Wednesday.

LOS ANGELES - Michael Jackson's 7-year-old will was filed Wednesday in a Los Angeles court, giving his entire estate to a family trust and naming his mother as a beneficiary of the trust and the guardian of his three children.

• Click here to read the will (PDF)

The will names singer Diana Ross as a successor guardian to 79-year-old Katherine Jackson if necessary.

The will, dated July 7, 2002, estimated his estate at that time at more than $500 million. It gives the entire estate to the Michael Jackson Family Trust. His former wife Debbie Rowe is cut out of the will.

Meanwhile, a person familiar with the situation said no public Jackson memorial was planned for his sprawling Neverland ranch, which is about 120 miles (195 kilometers) northwest of Los Angeles.

Santa Barbara officials had discussed the possibility a memorial or public viewing could occur Thursday.

But the person, who is not authorized to speak for the family and requested anonymity, said nothing was planned for Neverland at least through Friday. The source said it appears more likely a funeral and burial will take place in Los Angeles. The family has the final say.

The person says billionaire Thomas Barrack, who owns Neverland in a joint venture with Jackson, sought an exemption to bury the singer at the ranch. But the person says it's a complicated process and it couldn't be done for a burial this week.

The will filed Wednesday said Jackson's estate consisted almost entirely of "non-cash, non-liquid assets, including primarily an interest in a catalogue of music royalty rights which is currently being administered by Sony ATV, and the interests of various entities."

(2 of 2)

It also names Jackson's longtime lawyer John Branca and John McClain, a music executive and a family friend, as co-executors of the will.

Jackson, who died Thursday at age 50, left behind three children: son Michael Joseph Jr., known as Prince Michael, 12; daughter Paris Michael Katherine, 11; and son Prince Michael II, 7. Rowe was the mother of the two oldest children; the youngest was born to a surrogate mother, who has never been identified.

The children are named in the will.

In a statement, Branca and McClain said: "The most important element of Michael's will is his unwavering desire that his mother, Katherine, become the legal guardian for his three children. As we work to carry out Michael's instructions to safeguard both the future of his children as well as the remarkable legacy he left us as an artist we ask that all matters involving his estate be handled with the dignity and the respect that Michael and his family deserve."

Katherine Jackson was granted temporary guardianship Monday of Jackson's three children. A judge held off on requests to control the children's estates, and gave her limited control over her son's troubled, but lucrative finances.
