Jon Huntsman to quit Republican presidential race
#1

Quote:Jon Huntsman is dropping out of the race for the Republican presidential nomination and will throw his support to rival Mitt Romney.

A Republican close to the campaign, who spoke on condition of anonymity because Huntsman had not yet made his decision public, told Yahoo News the former Utah governor informed his staff of his decision on Sunday night. He's expected to publicly endorse Romney at a news conference in South Carolina Monday morning.

Everybody knew that Huntsman was incapable of attractiing Repubican votes in the primaries. He is just saving face by quitting after a respectful showing in a northern state. There is no way that an Obama appointe ever had a shot at the Republican nomination.

Who does this help? Or were his votes so low that it did not really matter?

Huntsman had more support among Democrats in the media than anywhere else. His withdrawal and endorsement of Romney means nothing. Romney needs the support of some high profile conservatives to offset Romneycare.
If Huntsman wanted to help Romney, then endorsing Gingrich might have been more helpful.

Now were left with....

Romney
Paul
Gingrich
Santorum
Perry

Any chance Perry or even Gingrich with his big money spent in Carolina rops out if either have a poor showing in south carolina?

Perry probably will be the next to drop- he's just not getting any traction and to be honest he's not ready to run a national campaign. Gingrich has gone all in for the South Carolina primary. He needs a win or a very close second to stay in.

Slow and steady Romney will continue on to the nomination

Huntsman just made his formal announcement, complete with a healthy dose of whining about the tone of the political debate. Good riddance, IMO. I wish that he had endorsed somebody besides Romney. Maybe Obama will give him back his old job now.
