DALLAS A bizarre and tragic end to a traffic stop in Dallas.
A man stopped for an outdated registration sticker early Tuesday ran off into a dark field. He sank in waist-deep mud and died before sheriff's deputies could pull him out.
Deputies say it took an hour to find him, and they spent another hour trying to extract him before he died. The cause of death is believed to be exhaustion and hypothermia. Toxicology results are pending.
Authorities suspect the man ran because he thought he was wanted. But they say the only problem besides his outdated registration sticker was an expired driver's license.
