Ashland is the team to beat. Hensley is the best pitcher in the region and Ashland has some good hitters. Boyd is a Solid team but until someone can step up and beat Ashland, it's theirs to lose.

Ashland looks pretty good at this early stage. I was told the other day that he has only one kid that is playing the same position as she did last year, everyone else is in a new position. I think Megan Hensley is the best pitcher in the region and Mckenzie Vanover is the best hitter as well. They have several other good hitters in the line up too. Coach Miller probably doesn't get enough credit what he has done at Ashland. 4 straight region titles are hard to come by and I don't see any reason why they couldn't make it 5.

On a another note I was told Megan Griffith didn't play at Myrtle Beach due to a leg injury and Katie Caron received 8 or 9 stiches above her eye. Are they kids going to be available this week? They have 5 games this week, including a big game at Boyd Co on Tuesday.

PREP ROUNDUP: Hensley ignites Ashland softball sweep
Staff report
The Independent

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Ashland sophomore Megan Hensley put on a show against two West Virginia teams Tuesday morning during the Kittens’ softball Spring Break trip.

Hensley went 5-for-7 at the plate and drove in six runs as Ashland posted 9-4 wins over Musselman and Riverside.

Against Musselman, Hensley was 3-for-3 including two doubles. She scored twice, drove in two runs and also pitched a three-hitter with 13 strikeouts.

McKenzie Vanover and Katie Caron connected for home runs in the fifth inning, with a Hensley double in between.

Caron finished 2-for-4 and drove in four runs, while Sydney Whitt was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored. The Kittens collected 11 hits overall.

Ashland trailed 4-2 against Riverside before staging a seven-run rally in the seventh inning. Hensley just missed a grand slam as her drive to left-center field hit the top of the fence and fell for a bases-clearing double.

Hensley also singled and knocked in four runs for the game. Freshman Hayley Kilburn singled twice to help support the team’s 10-hit attack. Whitt pitched a complete game and held Riverside scoreless over the last four innings.

The Kittens improved to 3-0 on the trip and have won five in a row since dropping a season-opening doubleheader to Lawrence County.

Ashland is scheduled to play a single game today, then doubleheaders on Thursday and Friday before returning home.
